Why Is Communism Bad

Communism is a “Political theory advocating class war and leading to a society which all property is publicly owned and each person works and paid according to their abilities” After world war 2 communism took over Czechoslovakia and people flocked to join the party. Not everyone was convinced that the party was what the country needed for them to gain peace. The party had lots of propaganda and were in control of peoples live therefore convincing people to join the party even if reluctant. In Under a Cruel Star, Kovaly recounts her time after the war and joining the communist party and then being shunned when her husband was convicted of a crime. She talks about how people put blind faith in a party that didn't have much scientific evidence to back up their claims. Kovaly said the most people went to the communist party because when coming back from the concentration camp they wanted to be in control of property again and they stayed because they felt helpless without the party providing services. They went from one type of totalitarian government to another kind of government that controlled everything they did. People of the time didn't realize that communism didn't benefit people who weren't in an elite class.

Growing up in the United States, communism immediately causes people to cringe. Yes many attempts at communist societies have gone horribly wrong, however the motives behind communism are powerful. They hope to tear down the social classes that capitalism forms, they hope to educate women and form a society where the proletariat is paid for their work by the government in order to distribute the wealth evenly. The Communist Manifesto is a political pamphlet explaining the communist beliefs. The Manifesto’s effect on history cannot be stressed enough. It had an immediate impact in 19th century France. The powerful messages embedded within the Communist Manifesto impels people to take action, serving as a driving force in the French Revolution of 1848, and is recognized as the platform for which the Paris Commune based their government off of.

One fact that is often overlooked when considering communism is that humanity is flawed. We all make mistakes in life and we all are working to get something for ourselves. They assume that nobody will get greedy and try to rise to power or want to be better than anyone else. Communism is an economic strategy with a main goal of establishing pure equality in a country. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels first created this as a strategy to end capitalism. All private ownership is taken away and basically given to the community which is where the name “communism” was derived from. Capitalism tended to create social classes and communism basically abolished the rich and the poor.
