Why Is Civil Disobedience Ineffective

As Gandhi once said, “In a gentle way you can shake the world.” He is saying that fighting in a peaceful way and using civil disobedience can change the world. Civil disobedience is the refusal to follow certain laws, as a peaceful form of political protest. Some ways to use civil disobedience boycotting, picketing, and not paying taxes. There has been a long argument over if civil disobedience is an ineffective or ineffective method of social change. I think it is an ineffective way of social change. I think it is ineffective because there can be violence on one side, it can cause consequences, and it takes a long time to make a change.
One reason that civil disobedience is ineffective, is because it creates violence on one side. For example, the Amritsar Massacre shows how civil disobedience creates violence on one side. Gandhi helped organize a nationwide protest against the Rowlatt Acts. The Rowlatt act banned public meeting and gathering and you were not allowed to have public order. Susan B. Anthony shows how civil disobedience causes consequences. She was fighting for women’s rights to vote. In 1872 she voted illegally. Susan B. Anthony then got arrested after that act of civil disobedience (Susan B. Anthony, 2).That shows that civil disobedience is ineffective because she got arrested and women didn’t get the right to vote until after she died. So, she spent her time in jail and didn’t even make a change. In addition, Susan B. Anthony also got fined one hundred dollars after she voted illegally (Susan B. Anthony, 2). That shows it causes consequences because she got fined and she didn’t even get to see a change made. If someone keeps doing acts of civil disobedience, they can end up paying a lot more than she did. That is how civil disobedience causes
