Why Is Chivalry Important To Society

Chivalry is the type of thing that would be great to have in our society but I don’t believe that it exists too much anymore in the world today. Let me break down here some of the chivalry rules compared with the actions of the people of the current world.

My personal code of chivalry is to stand up for those who can not stand up for themselves. Those who are less fortunate, mentally challenged, and or physically disabled. I was raised in a house where you respect and stand up for anyone in need. Being a bully was not tolerated in my house, being a friend to all was expected by my parents. My mom told me at a young age “everyone understands a smile”, whether they speak the same language, have a handicap, or are considered an outcast. A smile can go a long way, and make anyone feel included.

In this modern ages time Chivalry is dead. Chivalry is defined as the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code. In today’s time the moral and social codes that were demanded back then are not now. With so many standing up to be equal and to live in whatever way they see fit,there is no place for chivalry . Even something as simple as holding a door open for a women can be misconstrued as being disrespectful. So the question should not be “is chivalry dead” it needs to be will chivalry ever hold a place in modern day

What does it mean to be chivalrous? Chivalry is the ideal qualities of a knight. “The Code of Chivalry was the honor code of the knight. The Code of Chivalry was an important part of the society and lives of people who lived during the Medieval times and was understood by all.” (Alchin, Linda, 2014) According to the knights in the Medieval times, The Code of Chivalry was law; you must obey, no questions about it. To be a knight you must have courage to fight the battles places in front of you. You must have honor and be afraid to lose it, because once it is gone you can never fully recover it, keep it sacred. Chivalry can be described as a knightly code, the bravery and virtuous fight for justice and the loyalty to the king.

She sought out people to talk to about this and get their opinions on it, so they trusted her opinion more. Lastly, there is pathos. On the third page, Smith writes “Chivalry is about respect. It is about not harming or hurting others, especially those who are more vulnerable than you.It is about putting other people first and serving others often in a heroic or couragesus manner. It is about being polite and courteous." When she says this, the audience feels. They feel that chivalry really could be a good thing and they feel that it could benefit them, as well as those around them. chivalrous isn't necessarily the most popular word around today. Most women use other words such as mature, gentleman, and being a man. It is a man's duty to treat the girl with the utmost respect. Some men still follow the chivalrous guidelines today. Most people may argue and say it is dead , but it's all your opinion an how you was raised and religious beliefs. Chivalry is a nod to differences between the sexes. It is not about either the inferiority the lofty superiority of women . Some women will bear children and some men will step up. Chivalry is used to connect the characteristics of knighthood. What men don't understand is that that women want to be treated well and have all the say so in the realtionships.

People think too much about themselves and don’t think about others or society enough. The ideals of chivalry would help in correcting these problems and preventing people from being so self-centered.

Aristotle breaks down justice into two types, distributive and rectificatory, both dealing with some measure of balance. Distributive justice deals with the distribution of some good, such as wealth, among members of a community.
