Today the world is made up of many groups fighting for the same basic right: equality.Yet, the ones who are unable to voice their opinions or speak their minds are left in the dust and at the whim of others opinions. Millions of animals all around the world are being neglected, tortured, abused, and all for the benefits of the human kind. However, there are individuals and organizations who are determined to make a change for these helpless animals such as: Peta, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Food Empowerment Project, and the list continues. Although, these animal activist groups are breaking boundaries that have never been broken before, there is still an argument for animal cruelty. The fight for animal equality is no different than the fights amongst our own kind. Nevertheless, many …show more content…
Although, it may be said, humans differ as individuals, there are no differences between the races and sexes as such. From the mere fact that a person is black or a woman we cannot infer anything about that person's intellectual or moral capacities. This, it may be said, is why racism and sexism are wrong. The white racist claims that whites are superior to blacks, but this is false; although there are differences among individuals, some blacks are superior to some whites in all of the capacities and abilities that could be conceivably relevant. The opponent of sexism would say the same: a person's sex is no guide to his or her abilities, and this is why it is unjustifiable to discriminate on the basis of sex (Peter
As an animal lover, it pains me immensely to see an animal in distress. Animals subjected to abuse have no one to defend them, therefore humans need to speak out as their voices. Unfortunately, in our world, many people have a lack self-restraint and control; their defenceless animals become punching bags. I devote my life to helping animals in any way I can. Often times the abused horses and dogs sent to my barn require immense care and attention. I consistently provide the support these underprivileged animals crave. One cannot imagine the horrors that animals rescued and given to my property have faced, but my boundless love and guardianship always goes a vast way. Humans should strive to make eliminating animal
As a college student, I have seen things over the years that has concerned me on the world's approach to animal rights. Animals are still not treated fairly as humans are. In Vicki Hearn’s article, “What’s Wrong with Animal Rights”, she did not provide the audience with strong examples of ethos and logos but provided her audience with a numerous amount of pathos. People who own, work or care about animals and their opportunity to live as equal as humans do.
Granting inalienable rights to animals is counterproductive for society and will only prove to negatively affect all of us. It is critical that one
“In recent decades activists have attempted to enlist public support for myriad causes on behalf of animals, launching campaigns against practices including fur wearing, factory farming, hunting, whaling, dog fighting, and abuse of pets. These campaigns have not gone unheard. Congress has passed numerous animal welfare acts, and some states have imposed their own rules concerning the treatment of
Human beings belong to the Animal Kingdom, therefore human beings are animals. Human beings have rights; animals have rights, or at least they should. Unfortunately, however, human beings feel the need to take those unalienable rights away from animals who have no way of fighting back. Local law enforcement and animals’ rights advocates should do more to eliminate animal abuse because it is unethical, immoral, and inhumane.
In “The Case for Animal Rights,” Tom Regan emphasizes his philosophy on animal and human equality. After reading further into his work, he illustrates a societal system that belittles animals and their significance to our own existence. Regan conceptualizes that animals won’t have real rights unless we change our beliefs. We need to acknowledge a problem. After identifying the issue, we must recognize that there is a need for change in society. In addition, he also reiterates the importance of the populace changing the way they view animals. The way society views animals will create a snowball effect that will influence politicians to also believe in animal rights.
According to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty), the first humane organization, founded in 1866, in the Western Hemisphere that works to rescue animals from abuse and pass humane laws, the definition of animal cruelty is “acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals.” This definition is presented in a paper written by Learning To Give, an organization that teaches children to give back, take voluntary citizen action, and engage civilly and presents it through a philanthropist approach. Animal cruelty is an atrocious act that needs to be understood and not undermined. It is easy to push something to the back of our minds and put ourselves in denial when the issue is not right in front of our faces. Many of
Sadly, billions of farm animals lack even the most basic protections under the law. While we fight for stronger laws, we can make a difference today through more humane farming, welfare-conscious shopping and reduced consumption of animal products” (ASPCA). Thousands of animals are forbidden to see the light of day, killed for being the wrong breed, and left to stand in their waste for weeks on end. The females spend almost their lives pregnant and both male and female spend their whole lives in cages. They face challenges such as starvation for breeding animals, and for their offspring: force feeding, cramped, unsanitary cages, and even death due to the cruel living conditions. Don't allow these animals to be mistreated because you want more breast meat in your KFC. Instead, be the voice for these animals. They can't ask for help but you can. I myself am not against the use of animals for food, but I am against torturing them before they die. No animal deserves to be treated this way. We all need to get involved in the fight for decent living conditions for these animals. Eat food grown only on local farms or get involved with the ASPCA or the HSUS. If we all speak up and demand better living conditions for these poor creatures, maybe then we can put a stop to this
The Animal Rights movement has become a household name for many families. Whether it is from television, news, or firsthand experience, most people are familiar with the Animal Rights movement and their many different goals. It is important to keep in mind that the Animal Rights movement has many different goals in which they are set on achieving. There are many misconceptions when it comes to the Animal Rights movement and the most important would be that many don’t know the difference between animal rights and animal welfare activists. Animal Right’s activists are aiming to see animals treated equal to humans, based on recent studies that have concluded they have similar psychological and physical responses to discomfort, pain, and stress. Animal welfare activists aim more or less to ensure the just and humane treatment of animals, whether they are wild,
Animals are a big part of many people’s lives. They provide companionship; they provide daily assistance to those that have deficits and are having difficulty functioning in their daily life; they provide security and help keep a watchful eye on things, plus so much more. And yet, with all that animals do for us, there are those that are treated with such little regard, care, and cruelty. They are unable to speak for themselves and therefore, they need a voice to speak for them.
An important part of the debate over animal rights centers on the question of the moral status of an animal. Most people agree that animals have at least some moral status – that is why it is wrong to abuse pets or needlessly hurt other animals. This alone represents a shift from a past view where animals had no moral status and treating an animal well was more about maintaining human standards of dignity than respecting any innate rights of the animal. In modern times, the question has shifted from whether animals have moral status to how much moral status they have and what rights come with that status.
“People have different feelings for animals; many look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research” (“Save the Animals”), or simply as food. People complain about the way they have been treated by other people on a daily basis. Though, they treat an animal who cannot speak for themselves, just as poor as they had been treated, if not worse. Even though, animals feel every emotion a human being feels according to many different studies. So why treat them any less than our neighbors? As the article by Andrea Nolan states, there has been a growing global effort to raise awareness of feelings in animals.
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
Mahatma Gandhi once said that “the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way animals are treated.” One would believe that animal’s rights would be a vital concern to the United States government since thirty nine percent of the American population possesses pets. Instead, there is a debate of whether or not animals should have rights, such as the right of humane treatment, and the right to not be exploited for human purposes. Moreover, there is a greater debate of whether or not animal rights should be enforced earnestly by the government. Animals and the many things they provide for the human race, such as companionship, food, and clothing, have been taken for granted for many decades. Although statistics
We live in a world that has a largely anthropocentric (a human centered) view. This causes respect and ethical concerns for animals to often be overlooked. People argue that if we did not rely on animals for resources, where would we be? On the other hand, there are animal rights advocates. These people do not view animals as resources, but instead treat animals with humane and ethical respect. Many special interest groups-
