The word abortion by definition is the intentional termination of a human pregnancy; abortions are most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is an extremely controversial issue because while some people are completely against it, other people strongly believe that women should have the legal right to an abortion. I strongly believe that abortion is morally and ethically wrong and for this reason I believe that abortion should be illegal in every situation.
In Colorado abortion is legal when a pregnancy is intentionally terminated by a licensed physician using the correct medical procedure and it needs to have the appropriate consent. For example, if a pregnant woman is under 18 years old, she has to have the consent of the parent or guardian. If she is marry she has to have consent from her husband. Abortion is also legal when the pregnancy is likely to result in death, physical, and mental impairment of the mother, when the child can be born with a mental or physical retardation. It’s also legal if the pregnancy is a result of sexual assault.

There has been a decrease in abortion since 1980. According to operation rescue women that are between 20 and 24 years old have the highest percent of having abortions in 2011. In 2011, 34% of white women had an abortion, 37% black women, and 22% Hispanic women. According to this statistics black women are five times more likely to end a pregnancy than white women (“Abortions in America”).
