“All men are created equal,” are the words that fall out of people’s mouths like they were born chanting it. It’s what they’ve been promised. Often, people recite it like it’s the only thing they have left to desperately grasp onto. Equality falls into the American dream- the pursuit to better your life. Without a doubt, everybody’s version of the dream differs. Some people dream of a white collar job with a sufficient supply of money to help support their children through college. Others thirst for more ambitious jobs - the President of the United States, Neurosurgeon, Senator, etc. Granted, these careers are easier for people who don’t have to worry about what their next meal is going to be.That being said, my dream is to help. I want to help those who have been hurt, wounded, and help people who have no other resources to turn to.

When I gazed ahead to my future, I saw nothing. However, I quickly learned the importance of ameliorating the lives around me. People who need help very often don’t get the help they need, and there are not nearly enough people in this world who are willing to stop and help. In the same way, some people aren’t willing to look around them and see the pain happening in the world. I work everyday to change that. I dream everyday to fix that for other people. It is my belief that just because a person is privileged, or because they’ve never faced discrimination, doesn’t mean that they have the right to look away from society’s current and ongoing crisis. The phrase, “It doesn’t matter because it’s not happening to me,” is an inexcusable sentence to utter when so many people are suffering.
