During this time, I have witnessed many of the challenges facing our children and youth in the educational system. These obstacles range from poverty, violence, and drugs, which inhibits the student’s ability to engage in the learning process. For example, I have had several students tell me they were sick and wanted to go home. After asking probing questions, I discovered that the underlying issue was hunger. Other challenges facing students are bullying, student health, identity, gender, and sexual orientation, to cite a
The challenge that individuals from the group will bring to the education environment is one that directly impact their learning. It is well understood that children cannot learn until their most basic needs are met. Yes, we offer free breakfast to students, but many arrive too late to receive this service and often one muffin is not enough to address their hunger. This plunge made me aware of the challenges many students will face in my
In any public high school, there are obviously excessive amounts of issues the students and, frankly, even teachers face. External pressures have forced students to take actions that they don’t necessarily agree with. It is difficult for new friendships to be made, as many are unwilling to break or form new bonds with other individuals. Even so, anxiety spreads from one’s worries about their future and potential outcomes of behavior. In A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the students at Devon School also face their own share of issues that Gene and other students face.
The documentary The Bad Kids, directed by Louis Pepe and Keith Fulton, is a film that shows Black Rock High School in Twentynine Palms, CA, a high school for credit-deficient teens. In the film, the cameras follow three students, Joey, Lee, and Jennifer. Ms. Viland, their principal, was also featured in the documentary. The main themes depicted are the patterns and cycles they follow and relapse to, abilities to learn, struggles outside of school, and their motivations and dreams. It’s important to understand that not all kids that struggle are “bad kids”.
Dr. Debra Koss ( child psychiatrist) believes that in our society today teens and parents face more stress and pressures than ever before. When a student acts up the first thought should not be punishment but what is going wrong in this young one’s life and how can it be helped. In Fund du Lac High School three hundred fifty-eight freshman out of six hundred thirty-two participated in mental health screening and sixty-four percent of the students tested were diagnosed with a mental illness. Many factors are contributing to this bad school environment ranging from overworked students, students ridiculing other students and faculty that genuinely do not care about the students. A teacher, who does not take interest in the students and does not do their best to make sure their students succeed, risks destroying their students confidence. 8,300 students drop out on a average day. These students say they drop because they don't feel safe, they can't keep up, they couldn't attend everyday or they did not have the confidence they would finish the class. Students everyday are either dropping out or hurting themselves because of the events that happen inside these school buildings. Forty percent of parents say children experience the most stress from academics. Chronic stress causes a sense of panic which causes more stress. “Despite whatever is going on -if you are a bit depressed, stressed, or overwhelmed you want to put up this positive
If the students had better access to dental check-ups, their dentist could prescribe medicine to help or schedule other appointments to fix the problems that have arisen with the students. Children call other students’ names, which could destroy the other young person’s life by losing confidence, not wanting to go to school, or just giving up on life with suicide. That “bully” would say mean things to a student in front of other students. When

School is a crucial part of a person’s life due to the amount of knowledge and successability a person might gain in their future. School can also be a place where students can interact with their fellow friends, but for others it can be a traumatizing place due to the amount of stress and also responsibility they might carry . This can be because of the stress teachers may put on the students. This can lead to students not giving their full effort on school, which will cause them to be mediocre students, and they wouldn’t be able to show their teacher the true potential they carry within themselves. These types of students are the one’s who are typically the students that aren’t successful in school. They just don’t
The development of students both inside and outside the classroom can best be nurtured through student affairs. As a student affairs practitioner, and former at risk student, I believe that a student’s engagement

In America, the system of education has one of the greatest influences on the people of the country. From the common workers of the U.S.A, to the teachers, the entrepreneurs, and even to the parents of the students, everybody is impacted by our current education system. Most importantly, the children playing the role of the students are impacted the most from this. At the end of the day, these children are the ones receiving this experience. After all, it is the education that a person receives that shapes their future. It is the morals they grow up with, and most importantly, their educational experience at school. Sadly, this “educational experience” does not affect the students of the generation in a positive way. There are many flaws with

Ethan Watters exemplifies a unique phenomenon in his work on the idea of cultural change in Japan. Watters essay discusses how a nation was altered for the benefit industry through the use of marketing. The stance that Watters takes in his essay is the implications of marketing and marketing techniques which can be used to change the thinking of a whole country. Karen Ho’s essay “Biographies of Hegemony” focuses on how the leaders of investment bankers market the ‘success’ in investment banking in an attempt to make students get involved in the banking career. Both of these ideas were joined together by the constitution and techniques used in marketing, a system evident in Ho’s essay. Before scrutinizing how marketing influences different
According to GLOBAL ISSUES, “1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, and 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million Died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).” In America alone, much of our country lives in poverty and a very large portion of this population are the students that enter our classrooms. Although we as teachers are not expected to change our students’ financial situation, we are expected to fight against the odds that face our students that live in these conditions. However, jumping over meeting the physiological needs of our students
Radiologic technology is a satisfying and rewarding career. It is a technical and refined science. As a radiological technologist, there are many essential duties and responsibilities that have to be fulfilled in order to be a good one. First of all, radiological technologists have to maintain a well-mannered and professional behavior when gathering information. They have to assure their patients that they are in good hands therefore; they give patients the uppermost quality of care and services. Second of all, the main responsibility of a healthcare provider is to keep all knowledge of a patient’s health record confidential or secluded. That means radiological technologists cannot talk about patients at home or with friends and classmates
Samantha, that is a key in the districts of schools at all levels, we tell kid they have a voice, but where I their voice. The school will tell the students if they have concerns, something is happening, and we don’t allow bullying at our campus. But how much truth is there to that sentence? Unfortunately, students must look at angles to stay safe, in some cases where and how they need to share good a negative situation. Dean Diamond explained, “exposing kids to different characters, different ways of thinking, something so foreign it the way they live, I do think that it broadens them as people (Seider, p. 185). During school meetings, I think we need to be prepared to respond to the student’s questions, whether they be positive, their hurtful emotions, and how they feel they aren’t heard. Students can be lead if they have role models that promote positive civic development. If the faulty is not approachable, them the student body will deal with things in their way, rather than thinking that the faculty supports them.
