The book stars a 14 year old boy named Wyatt which so many times in the book is described as “looking 19” due to his body. At the beginning of the book he gets taken away from his family and is picked up by his uncle Spade. Spade is a salesman that sells illegal fireworks. Spade takes Wyatt across America, starting at his grandmothers house. After spending a week at Wyatt’s grandmas house, they go live off of Spade’s girlfriends. The book I read was called “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah. It was a non-fiction book. “A Long Way Gone” is about Ishmael Beah, who is 12 years old when he's villages gets attacked and he has to go to village to village finally getting to one were he thinks is safe. But when news about the village needed soldiers Ishmael has to become one to get resources to survive. When he is excused from war he goes to rehabilitation in a city called freecity. Once he gets rehabilitated he goes to new york to speak about the experiences he had with the war. “‘Yaqui Delgado wants to kick your ass.’ A kid named Vanessa told me this morning before school.” The very beginning of Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass, by Meg Medina, sets the tone for the rest of this book. By this statement, the story starts boldly and in a disarrayed manner. The reader is jolted by the surprise, much like bullying itself can do. Medina also provides insight into each of the main characters with this one alarming sentence. From the start, Vanessa is revealed as one of Yaqui’s puppets. The reader has a window into who Vanessa is in this moment as someone who perhaps isn’t doing what she wants. Yaqui, on the other hand, is revealed to be the antagonist. By the way she is introduced we can tell that Yaqui is aggressive;

According to Petersen (2007), “Good communication is just as important in business, family, and social life” (p. 17). According to the reading, listening is essential to work effectively with others and to maintain relationships and friendships. Furthermore, good communication can make a difference in casual relationships and more intimate relationships. Moreover, the book presents the importance of understanding and listening to others as a reciprocal beneficial interaction.

The book I am reading is called the Rule of Three: Will to Survive, by Eric Walters. In the first book (The Rule of Three), a boy named Adam Daley with his neighborhood (Eden mills) who tries to survive after every computer related device stops working. With the help of a police captain (his mother), his neighbor Herb (a retired government spy) and his ultralight, he turns his neighborhood into a fortress. Now, they fight for resources and survival. In the second installment (Fight for Power), because of Adam’s mistaken trust, many people. Moreover, he meets a new psychotic enemy. As Claudia tries to find Finn she goes thru many conflicts that come with coming of age.
During the Holocaust, many townspeople were aware of the events occurring within the concentration camps. In the book, Night by Elie Wiesel, the townspeople remained complacent with the Nazis. Some people even went as far as taunting the Jews when they were transported through towns. The Nazis during that time had a very strong influence and used fear to incite citizens to remain cooperative.
This book is called Forged by Fire, by Sharon M. Drapper. In the book Gerald has to grow up with many challenges. The book takes place in the Hazelwood area. Gerald is a three year old boy who lives with his single mom. Gerald's mom is a major drug addict, she doesn't really take good care of Gerald. If he were to have a “accident”, she would make him keep it in his pants or not change him till the end of the day as a lesson to him. Gerald has many problems to deal with in this book, but the main one is having to deal with Jordan, his mom's husband who abuses all 3 of them, Monique (mom), Gerald, and Angel (sister). But worst of all Gerald has to deal with the fact that Jordan is sexually abusing Angel.
The book I read this quarter was Playground by 50 Cent (Curtis James Jackson III) with the help of Laura Moser. Butterball the main character is an overweight outcast who moved to Garden City Road Island because his parents became divorced and he went with his mother. Butterball beats up another kid and is forced to go to a therapist for his anger issues. With the violence that he caused the other kids respect him. His father also supports his outburst and even makes him steal a pair of expensive shoes. His mother is always working and although she wants to help Butterball he doesn't want it. Butterball learns that another boy is going to a birthday party and that he will try to hit on a girl, called Nia, that he likes and so he attempts to fight him because he thinks he’ll get respect. When at the party he gets beat up by the boy and his friends. Disgraced by his failure he works with his therapist to change himself into a better person. He continued to work hard on his filming hobby and realized that his mother wanted to help him and that his dad would bring him down. He gave up bullying and became a better person for the rest of Highschool.
