Everyday that I continue to live is an meaningful achievement. Waking up and striving for success and following my dreams is a meaningful achievement. When I was young I always use to question myself as to what I wanted to be when I grew up. What I did know was that I wanted to be happy and I wanted to make others happy as well by helping them. Growing up, I moved a lot and went to six different schools. Changing schools taught me that in life people who you are mainly used to seeing everyday you probably won’t get to see them ever again in this lifetime. For example, people who are in jail. For whatever reason that they are in there, some are facing life sentences and will never see their family or friends ever again. In my opinion, no one …show more content…
I want to make justice for the criminals because some may be innocent and I want to hear their side of the story. Some may not be innocent and I want to hear their reason for doing what they did to make a crime. The occupation that I plan on taking with my major is to become a Criminal Defense Lawyer. I want to represent them in their case and help them to get out of a bad situation in their life and turn it into a positive. I believe every person on earth can make a change. I don’t want people behind jail cells rotting their life away because of a mistake that they made. Money spent on incarcerations and jails is $80 billion a year. That money could be used to feed poverty and the homeless or help build more schools for education. People's freedom should not be locked away forever. The pledge of allegiance states “Justice for all”, but we rarely see justice getting served. I want to be able to break that barrier and chain and make justice be a requirement and law for getting served. The goals in my life are not limited to just one. There are various goals that I set out for myself that I will accomplish. I will start my own law firm and I want to give past prisoners a chance at life …show more content…
Wanting to put an end to poverty is something that has been going on for decades and it seems like no president ‘who we the people’ voted for has been able to accomplish. There is lottery drawings for hundreds of millions of dollars but yet they say America is in debt. The poor is getting poorer and the rich is getting richer. In my opinion, why not used that money and help the people who really need it. Then everyone can be equal and have something to offer. Making a valuable difference and change is my biggest goal of all. If I set an good example, then people will be curious and eventually want to follow me to see where I am going. Once I have the followers then they will have support of me and it would make them see that change is needed not wanted. Changing not just the country I live in but changing others as well. I know that there are laws and some cannot be changed but everyone deserves justice and equality. Once I set these goals my life and others as well would already be achieved. Fairness to others, giving others chances is something that needs to be done and I, Tiffany Monique Scales is going to be that person to do it. I know that my hard work will pay off in the
Growing up, my father was a prosecutor. I always had this image of good versus evil and thought that these bad people were sent to prisons to be punished for their actions. Throughout this course and through the many readings we were assigned, I have started to see my perspective shift. These ideas of putting people away for committing crimes has been so pounded in my brain over the last twenty years that it is hard to perform a 180. Yet, I feel that know I have a deeper understanding of the complexity to the prison and justice system, realizing that this notion of good v. evil is not reality.
My goal is to reduce poverty and not end it because poverty will never end due to other
Comparative Essay In a recent interview with criminal defense attorney Mitch Walker, I noticed that we had similarities in a vast number of categories. For example, we have very similar backgrounds, upbringings, education, and the location of where we work. Before getting into the similarities of Mitch and I, first let’s talk about what it takes to become a criminal defense attorney.
Having to undergo criminal investigation or court trial can become a very horrible experience for you, especially if you do not have any idea of the criminal offenses you have committed. In this situation, you will need the legal assistance of an experienced Utah Criminal Defense Attorney to defend you throughout the court proceedings, as well as provide emotional support to you.
Many people might say their goal in life is to be successful. But how is success measured? It’s all a matter of opinion and influence. One society’s idea of success may be different than another society’s idea, just as one individual’s idea of success may be different from another individual’s idea. My idea of success is happiness. When I’m on my deathbed, I want to look back on my life and be truly happy with it. My goal is to continuously figure out what makes me happy and to strive to keep doing it. Part of the reason I’m going to college in the
Throughout my childhood I have lived in the same town, lived in the same tattered trailer, and have never truly known comfort in the financial sense. My family has always struggled. This is part of what has motivated me to at least do something with my life. I want my family to know that monetary comfort and that my children will be able to go to the college that they want to attend and have worked their butts off to get to and not worry about paying for it. This is why I decided to continue schooling after high school.
Poverty is more prevalent In the U.S than many people know for example 1 in 5 families are thought to be poor. So how can we help? Well instead of giving money to these families in need we should be providing them with necessities for everyday life. If low income families are only given money there is no way to make sure it is going to the benefit the families needs, It could be going to drugs or other unnecessary things. Another way to help is making birth care more accessible so there are less unplanned pregnancies throwing many into poverty. If the government makes these two changes poverty would dramatically decrease
Many reforms in the UnitedStates have been passed to help fight against the “War on Poverty”; but it has not been effective in eradicating poverty in the U.S. There are about 46 million people who are living in impoverished conditions and poverty continues to be a social issue in this country (Heritage Foundation, 2011) In the beginning, our country was formed under the belief that “this land is the land of opportunity and if we worked hard enough the American Dream can be gained” (Schwarz, 1997). People immigrate to this country today in hopes of becoming rich so they could gain a better life. In spite of coming to this country for a better life, many are faced with the lack of skills and money to succeed. In the end, most will end
The United States spends about 1% of it’s revenue trying to end poverty. Even though poverty levels are increasing every year, therefore in a few years with the increasing numbers, over half of all children, the future of tomorrow, will be living in, and affected by poverty. At any rate, more revenue should be spent on resources to end poverty, without a doubt to at least help the children who desperately need it. Plus also help to shape the United States, known as “the land of opportunities “ into just that, “the land of opportunities “. In other words, for the rich, poor, black, white, male, female, young, and old, everyone should have the same opportunities, and the same chances to prosper in life. At this point, the United States has more
Today’s prisons do not effectively rehabilitate criminals, they are likely to reoffend and be incarcerated multiple times. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, “At least 95% of inmates in the U.S. state prisons will return to their communities upon release, and more than 66% will be rearrested within three years.” (Beyer 2). The majority of prisoners who are in the same environment both before and after they were arrested continue to break the law. If jails and prisons focused more on rehabilitating criminals rather than only punishment, this number is likely to decrease. Prisons in the United states are overcrowded. This became a legal issue in 2011, when the Supreme Court required a reduction in California’s prison population by over 40,000 inmates. (Beyer 1). Cramming too many prisoners together does not benefit any party in the correctional system, and it is likely to cause more issues between prisoners. This also puts the safety of prison guards and correctional officers in jeopardy, because physical altercations between prisoners are more likely to occur. 676 per 100,000 people in the United States are imprisoned, which is the largest incarceration rate in the world. (Beyer 2). This number could decrease with a prison system that focused on a prisoner’s need as an individual. This includes education, job preparedness, and a plan for life
The biggest issue with prisons right now is that they are extremely overcrowded. This problem is attributed to the rising crime rate. Currently the crime rate is fairly high, “Nationwide, law enforcement made an estimated 11,302,102 arrests in 2013” (FBI). Not all of these arrests were sentenced prison time, nonetheless thousands were. 631,200 people were incarcerated in prisons last year (Carson). Several people argue that the crime rate is lower than it has been, however the best crime rate is 0. Prisons aid in lowering the crime rate because criminals cannot commit crimes while they are locked up and currently there are around 2 million criminals not committing crimes (Prisoners), nevertheless once those prisoners are released they return to a life of crime. Statistics show, “two-thirds of prisoners will reoffend” (Criminal Justice). One of the main roles of prison is to rehabilitate prisoners so that they will not commit other crimes; however, it obviously is not working. To alleviate this problem, prisons should counsel prisoners and educate them on why crime is
Achievement is a very important thing for many reasons. Our achievements are what define us and give us purpose. Achievement helps determine just how far we are willing to go to achieve goals and to make ourselves successful. I have worked for many achievements, in my lifetime, and I have many things that I am proud of. However, out of all of my achievements, I would say that my greatest achievement, was earning the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America.
We have a huge moral obligation as individuals and as a society to reduce poverty. We should increase social programs, minimum wage, food stamps and educational programs, employ the homeless and much more. Research shows that children from families of poverty have more stress leading to mental damage. Many people work for the minimum wage and even the hardest of workers only make a little money. Why is it that we help mainly the people who are lazy and do not deserve it? If anything cut welfare and increase minimum wages. Society as a whole needs to be motivated and encouraging as a community. The military should get cuts and then we could increase minimum wage and welfare. Businesses should help in supporting charities. With supporting charities,
My life long dream is to go to college and maybe become one of the best jobs in the world, a Game Warden. This job consists of not being afraid of what may come my way and be able to handle things I've never done before. This job is one the most realistic thing that relate to what I love to do. I love the outdoors and I love to fish all the time and the fact that there is a job that I would love to do is great. College is one of those necessary thing needed to get a good job so I will need to complete a total of 4 years, also known as a bachelors degree. College is on of those big things that no one is ready for because it will take you and launch you into the new world without anybody to help you. I am a young man that is looking for a
