Why Have Standardized Testing Improved Student Achievement?

Why do we take so many standardized testing each year? That is a question that students at my school ask all the time. The end of the school year is the best and the worst time. Summer is right around the corner, but we still have all our standardized testing to take. It causes so much pressure and stress for all students, teachers and even some of the parents. It is one test for your subject to prove everything you know and have been learning the whole year. I do understand how there is pros and cons of standardized testing, But I believe that the cons overpower the pros. Standardized testing has not improved student achievement (Is the use of standardized testing improving education in America?) Many students lose their confidence when the test results come back and they do not see the grade that they were expecting to get. It is hard and not fair for many students who do not know the material and have the intelligence to pass the test. Texas children are having a tougher time passing required state tests, particularly in reading, according to data released late Friday (Ayala). The material that we are learning now, will not affect most of us in the future. But the advice and guidance to being successful will impact us in the future. I think there needs to be a necessary balance between non-standardized testing and the material. In place of studying testing material all year for one big standardized test that determines if you go to the next grade or not. The testing material is only a little portion on what it takes to help children and teens
