The Atomic Bomb should be used very strategically and tactically in order to ensure a minimal loss of American life and a quick end to the war. Japan will not surrender until defeat meets them face to face. Japan’s women and children are jumping off of cliffs so that they can not be captured by the Allies. The Japanese soldiers are kamikaze bombing our American soldiers. Russia is preparing for an invasion into Eastern Asia. This madness must come to a halt. The United States needs to drop one Atomic Bomb on an outlying city of the capital, Tokyo. This will wake up the Japanese Emperor, Hirohito, and make for a quick surrender. We, however, cannot utterly destroy Japan with a second Atomic Bomb. We must remember that this is 1945 and communication is slow with the Asians. Their message of surrender will take several days to get to the United States. Therefore, we must save the second Atomic Bomb for an emergency situation only. In conclusion, only one Atomic Bomb should be dropped on an outlying city of Japan: to …show more content…
This option will save thousands more American lives than a full-assaulted invasion onto the coast of Japan. Millions of our own soldiers have given their life for this country. Do not undermine their life and drop the bomb in order to save American lives.
The policy of unconditional surrender: Dropping the Atomic Bomb will play right into the policy of unconditional surrender because the bomb will put the Japanese Leaders on their heels and force them to unconditionally surrender in order to save their nation.
Emerging problems with the Soviet Union: When the Soviet’s see the power and capability of our bomb, they will tuck their tails and run back to Moscow. The Soviet’s will not even attempt a counter attack on East Asia because they will know that after we drop the bomb, the war will be wrapped up within a few
1945 began as a year of increasing tensions between countries as the war extended onto its sixth year. Military groups of the various countries involved were now beginning to seriously consider the conclusion of the war in terms of how the global ceasefire would be carried out and frankly, who would win. After the defeat of the Axis Powers in Europe, the focus had been turned towards the war in Asia and the Pacific Regions in which the Allied Forces of Great Britain, Australia and the USA were in conflict with the Axis power of Japan and her partners. Following the urge to end the war, the ‘Big Three’ made up of the three leaders of the major Allied Forces; Churchill, Stalin and
On August 6, 1945, the United states have dropped the atomic bomb on Japan city of Hiroshima and three days after The United States have dropped the second bomb on Japan city of Nagasaki to end World War II. The United States should not have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan to end World War II because it was inhumane, unnecessary, and brutal.
Dropping the bomb could kill up to 1 million soldiers. Was it worth it? Dropping the bomb, only over 100,000 people were killed. That’s saving 900,000 lives. I do believe that dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. Here are the reasons why: Japan’s surrender could have ended the war faster, the attacks could have gotten worse as time in the war gained. Japan had already caused great damage to the United States.
This thought brings me to my next motive of why Truman might have dropped the bomb. I do not think Truman was unaware of the lasting effects of the atom bomb, but by the time these facts were presented to him, piled upon facts about the actual bomb and the projects supporting them, it was to late to change his decision. He needed to save face for America (which brings me to the next motive of pressure) even if it public opinion was not his main concern. Truman did not want to look soft upon the Japanese, something further consideration and negation of the plan to bomb would have caused in some officials eye's. Also, Truman and much of the rest of the nation did not like seeing the U.S. as moral failures like many other nations. Who knows what the reaction to the President's decision would have been like if he had decided to let an invasion with hundreds and thousands of our men involved take place.
At the end of World War II, Winston Churchill said, “Never in the field of human
Josue Mendez Mr. Creedon U.S History 2/20/2016 Question: One August 9th, 1945, the United States dropped a nuclear bomb in Japan, 5 days later Japan surrendered, was it justified drop this nuclear bomb or was it wrong for the United States to do?
“Truman stated that his decision to drop the bomb was purely military. Truman believed that the bombs saved Japanese lives as well. Prolonging the war was not an option for the President,” (ushistory.org 1). President Truman and the United States government made a fair decision by dropping the atomic bomb on the Japanese citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during 1945. The bomb allowed the United States to appear more powerful and led to them influencing the rest of the world. The dropping of the atomic bomb was also a just response to the previous atrocities committed by Japan to other countries including the United States. In the long run, the bomb saved more lives that would have been lost in the war, since the bombs caused the
President Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the direct cause for the end of World War II in the Pacific. The United States felt it was necessary to drop the atomic bombs on these two cities or it would suffer more casualties. Not only could the lives of many soldiers have been taken, but possibly the lives of many innocent Americans. The United States will always try to avoid the loss of American civilians at all costs, even if that means taking lives of another countries innocent civilians.
The solution chosen resulted in the least possible allied casualties compared to the other solutions. 1. If the US chose not to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they would have chosen operation downfall which was an invasion of Japan. This would have resulted in casualties estimated to be in the millions for the US. 2. The other solutions were to demonstrate the power of the bomb by dropping it on a remote island or waiting for the Soviets to declare war on Japan, but dropping the bomb on a remote island would be a complete waste of money as atomic bombs weren't cheap and waiting for the Soviets could still
The Japanese saw this as an incredible insult to their ruler, and therefore refused surrender (Lawton). The only reason why America could follow through with the term of “The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction” (“Potsdam Declaration”) was because it had made the terms of the Potsdam Declaration completely disgraceful and unacceptable for Japan. Clive A. Lawton argues “Many Japanese politicians would only agree to surrender if Emperor Hirohito remained on the throne”. Had the U.S. revised its treaty terms in order to keep Hirohito in power and leave at least some of the Japanese military intact, Japan would have likely surrendered quicker and the bombs would not be needed.
Before the United States dropped the bomb, they allowed Japan a chance to surrender. On July 26, 1945, the allies issued the Potsdam Declaration. This treaty was meant to make Japan surrender without a war. This was a warning that Japan will undergo harsh and utter destruction if they refused the declaration. Two days later Japan stated that they were going to ignore the Potsdam Declaration (“Was the Atomic Bombing”).
“In 1957, with the arms race in full swing, the Department of Defense had decided it was just a matter of time before an airplane transporting an atomic bomb would crash on American soil, unleashing a radioactive disaster the likes of which the world had never seem.” On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing 20,000 soldiers and 70,000 – 126,000 civilians. On August 9, 1945, the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing 39,000 – 80,000. A total of 129,000 – 226,000 people were killed in combining both bomb droppings. Dropping both atomic bombs on Japan was necessary to end the war because the military needed to end the war, the Japanese were given fair warnings
The first reason as to why dropping the atomic bomb was the right decision is because it would end the war. Ending the war would be a good idea because at this time in the war, the United States along with many other nations have lost too many lives. This war was the most catastrophic war in history because of the number of casualties. “The most destructive war in all of history, its exact cost in human lives is unknown, but casualties in World War II may have totaled 50 million service personnel and civilians killed.” (HistoryNet) Other nations suffered losses including the USSR (42,000,000), Germany (4,000,000) ,
In 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped over Japan on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and a detrimental impact on the environment.
There were many causes for the United States dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of these causes was because we wanted to increase the chances of Japan surrendering so that our
