Are cell phones taking over our generation? The average teenager uses their phones nine hours a day. Cell phone use should be cut down because they can cause cancer, bring grades down, and cause the user to expect instant gratification. Cell phones can cause cancer when they are constantly held up to your ear, stuck next to your hip, or even kept anywhere against your skin. Cell phones frequently emit radio waves from their antennas. Radio waves can cause cancer. Studies have shown that women who keep their phones in their shirts have a thirty percent higher chance of developing breast cancer than women who don't. Not only do cell phones cause cancer, using a cell phone all of the time can bring many children's grades down
"Heavy Cell Phone Use Can Quadruple Your Risk of Brain Cancer." Mercola.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 31 Mar. 2016.
Cell phones are amazing things that allow us to so many great things, but are causing us to loose sight to what really matters? Cell phones should not be allowed to be out during school hours but should not be completely banned from the school campus. They are used as status symbols, a way to measure self worth and make us lose touch with reality.
On his book, each volume focuses on one specific point and offer a variety of perspectives. He explores the relationship between cell phone and cancer and focuses on controversies surrounding research findings to date. He used eyewitness accounts, governmental views, scientific analysis, and newspaper accounts to present the critical social issue. He said the only one reliable way to discover what cause cancer and what does not is statistical: experiment and epidemiological. However, the World Health Organization and many doctors and medical researchers still suspect whether cell phone radiation would causes brain cancer.
The author states a very clear thesis; she believes iPhones are destroying my generation. I agree with the author in some ways because the facts are stated clearly through the article. Smartphones are changing the attitude of today’s teens. We are becoming more depressed, more sleep deprived, and less social than the generations before us. But I believe smartphones can have some positive uses as well.
I am going to talk about the arguments about how cell phone radiation can affect our lives and whether these arguments are accurate or not. Cell phone radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation that has the ability to cause health issues. The radiation from this device can cause serious brain tumours, according to one study by Anna Lahkola of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland, which found that people who use their cell phone for more than 2000 hours have a higher chance of getting a brain tumour. The
People have cell phones everywhere, especially teenagers. Teenagers are glued to their cell phones; they need cell phones almost everywhere they go. Today teens are depending on their phones for everything. The number of cell phones users has increased and as of 2010, there were more than 303 million subscribers in the U.S., according to the cellular companies (Hanna). As a result of teenagers over using cell phones, teens are being impacted emotionally, socially, and physically.
One of my main concerns about phones is that it is generating a whole generation of millennial and teens to suffer mentally. According to the The Atlantic: Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation,“The more time teens spend looking at screens, the more likely they are to report symptoms of depression.”Just disappointing to see how the smartphones that people are buying to be happy is making them depressed. This means that if you spend a lot of time on your supposed to make you happy device it will make you heavy-hearted. According to the The Atlantic: Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation,“Teens who visit social-networking sites every day…most likely to
Cell phones are extremely popular this day and age, not only with adults, but with the youth of this generation as well. What teenager these days does not want the newest smartphone? What high schooler does not envy the person in their class with the
According to scientists, cell phones were marked as “possibly carcinogenic.”(Trottier 1 ) In other words, there may possibly be a link between the use of cell phones and cancer. However, too little time has passed to detect if cell phones can cause cancer, researchers found no evidence of a link between the two and there is no evidence from studies that radiofrequency can cause cancer. Continuous evidence is showing this question as a false claim.
Many people think that cell phones cause cancer but that is definitely not the case after what i have researched in the past couple days. Lots of people think that they do cause cancer because of electromagnetic radiation waves penetrating the brain and causing tumors that end up being many different types of diseases including cancer. I think it could be easy to assume that cell phones have cancer because of the radiation waves that the cellular device is putting off. I also believe that many people like to make a big deal out of nothing.
The type of radiation cell phones give off is called radio frequency (RF) radiation. This radiation can go through your body and cause major damage to your tissues and cells. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) even classified this type of radiation as a possible 2B carcinogen (Burrell). There are also thousands of studies saying cell phones cause cancer, one study is the Interphone Study, this study concluded that “regular use of a cell phone by adults can significantly increase the risk of gilomas by 40% with 1640 hours or more of use” (Burrell). This equals out to about 30 minutes per day for ten years. Another study done by the Hardell Research Group concluded that using cell phones gives you an increased risk of developing gilomas or acoustic neuromas (Burrell). Another study done in the UK in 2013 studied 790,000 women and found that women using cell phones at least 10 hours a day are 2 1/2 times more likely to acquire an acoustic neuroma (Burrell). In the 1990s, at the University of Washington, Professor Lai linked cell phone radiation exposure directly to single-stranded DNA breaks. “This is important because, micronuclei proliferation indicates a type of DNA damage strongly associated with cancer” (Burrell). Not only can cell phones give you two different types of deadly brain tumors, but it can also give you eye cancer, lymph node cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, stem cell cancer, leukemia, paratoid malignant tumors, cancer of the pituitary gland, melanomas, and it can damage your DNA, which in turn can lead to cancer (Burrell). To conclude, major damage can be done to your brain and whole body if too much time is spent
Furthermore, Mobile phones are harmful to user’s health so they can affect their learning ways. Researchers have been found that mobile phones produce waves that are harmful to heart, internal and reproductive organs. Also, radiation from mobile phones can damage brain cell. (http://hubpages.com/hub/Effects-of-cell-phone--mobile-phone-use-on-our-brain-and-memory). For example, mobile phones can be implicated in brain tumours as a result of electromagnetic fields or radiation. (Raju, 2009, p.5) In http://hubpages.com/hub/Effects-of-cell-phone--mobile-phone-use-on-our-brain-and-memory,
Cell phones have been a major part of everyday life by helping people connect with each other instantaneously. Even though cell phones and their benefits are easy to recognize, the safety of cell phone use has been debated because of the safety of the cell phone radiation. The safety of cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones is a controversial topics, debating claims such as whether it has a correlation with cancer or tumors, if children are affected by it more than adults are, and by whether or not it is safe cannot be decided because of how recent the adoption of cell phones are (procon.org).
The WHO has classified mobile phone radiation on the IARC scale into Group 2B - possibly carcinogenic. That means that there "could be some risk" of carcinogenicity, so additional research into the long-term, heavy use of mobile phones needs to be conducted. Some national radiation advisory authorities have recommended measures to minimize
All the phones that kids use, they all can cause many side effects. To start, it says on the site ProCon.org that using the phone for more than an hour or two and that it can even crush the skull, it then shows that children under the age of eight absorb twice the amount of radiation then an adult or teen. To add, it said in the article that a July 2008 peer-reviewed study showed all this information about the ages that can absorb more radiation. To say, according to the Cleveland Clinic Center that cell phones can damage anything including sperm, and it can even lead to miscarriages or childhood cancer. I got this information from ProCon.org and it says that if you are on the phone all the time while pregnant that it can cause the baby to get a brain tumor and die or when the baby is born it will want to the same exact thing and that is to be on the phone. Finally, it can cause kids to become emotional about almost everything if they get hurt on social media, it can also cause kids to have very bad behavior and cause the kids to not listen to their parents or even teachers at school. Finally, kids can get hurt and tend to hurt themselves or even hurt other people because they are hurt. We should now jump into my
