During the Vietnam war, there were many reasons why America got involved in the war. First of all, America was against any country being communist and they wanted to ‘contain’ communism from spreading from china to the rest of IndoChina and eventually spreading across the world and reach America. That also leads to the ‘Domino Theory’ that President Johnson had. The ‘Domino Theory’ is basically a theory that if one country becomes communist then that disease of communism will spread to other countries. Also, this essay will talk about the cold war with Russia and how that is one of the many reasons why America got involved. ("How the US Got Involved?" BBC, 2014,) ("Why Did the USA Become Increasingly Involved in the Vietnam War." Marked by
Throughout America’s history, many conflicts have occurred with other countries. The U.S has had its run around with conflicts and many of them not being controversial, but some of them have had their share of controversy. One of these controversial conflicts occurred when the Vietnam War broke out. The Vietnam War occurred between the dates of nineteen forty-seven and nineteen seventy-five. The American government was criticized greatly due to intervening in the War. This paper is here to discuss the American involvement in the war, and if the American Government should have got involved in the war or not.
The main reason America decided to join the Vietnam War was due to their belief the ‘domino theory’ would occur if noting was changed. This is what would see them join the Vietnam War to help South Vietnam fight against the communist North.
in 1965, the first American combat troops arrived in Vietnam. Each year the number of troops conscripted to fight in Vietnam continued to grow until y 1968, there were millions of American troops who were fighting there. Australia and New Zealand decided to also send their troops in an attempt to stop a communist takeover. Between 1965 and 1972, the US air force had launched a massive bombing campaign, which was known as Operation Rolling Thunder. The Ho Chi Minh trail was bombed in order to destroy the vegetation which hid the supply routes, a defoliant was used, and it was called Agent Orange, this then caused environmental damage. They also bombed 'strategic targets' in North Vietnam which caused a large number of civilian deaths and also
There is no single fixed reason as to why the U.S. entered the Vietnam War. The United States became involved in the war step by step until it was completely committed, which was when Japan took over Indochina. There is, however, multiple reasons as to why stopping communism in Vietnam became a major U.S. priority. Presidents Eisenhower and Truman both advocated doing everything in their power to keep communism, which is a social system where all property is collectively owned instead of by individuals, from spreading throughout the world. Therefore, the domino theory is one of the major reasons it became a U.S. priority to prevent Vietnam from falling to communism. Another major reason for the action taken by the United States towards this dilemma would be that if the United States hadn’t taken part, the non-communist people of South Vietnam would have been persistently victimized and tortured. Lastly, it became a priority to the U.S. because the nation just generally felt responsible in helping Vietnam become independent and to be involved in the global fight against communism.
In the beginning, the United States always pushed forth the idea they were becoming involved in the war in Vietnam in order to send out aid to France, who was an ally of theirs. After the United Nations began setting up a plan to help France, the United States suggested splitting up the Communist and Democratic portions of Vietnam, with the communists having control over the North, while the Kennedy administration continued to send military aid to the Southern portions of Vietnam.
The Vietnam War was one of the most traumatic military experiences that the United States has participated in thus far in its short history. Over the course of the entire conflict, the U.S. lost almost 60,000 lives and in the end could not prevent the North Vietnamese communist regime from spreading to the South and unifying the country under an oppressive ideology. In addition to Vietnam falling to a communist regime, revolutions took place soon after the conflict in Laos and Cambodia. Every presidency in the Cold War feared this “domino effect” which drove U.S. interests abroad until the demise of the Soviet Union.
Why did America later withdraw from Vietnam after having such a strong push to be in this war from the start? The purpose of this short paper is to answer these questions in addition to providing clarification of what the soldiers and people of the United States were
The Vietnam War (1955-1975), was a conflict between the communist north and the United States backed south. This war claimed over 3,000,000 lives including an estimated 58,000 Americans and over half of the remaining being Vietnamese civilians. The American population would divide over opinions of U.S. involvement in this conflict and lead to many protests and civil unrest. Throughout the course of this war, the Air Defense Artillery was a cornerstone of U.S. force’s capability and helped shift the tide of battle significantly. This paper will discuss the history of the war, some major conflicts that occurred and the ADAs role during this war.
Do you know how many people died in the Vietnam war? 58,200 American soldiers died during the Vietnam war. 1.1 million Vietnamese war soldiers died during the war. This war was pointless for America to get involved in. The only reason America joined the war was because the government thought it was a way to prevent the communist takeover of Vietnam. This was a part of the “domino” theory. The Vietnam war was a very bad thing that happened and it was bad that we got involved.
After the events of Kristallnacht, Jews were sent to concentration camps and ghettos and conditions for them worsened which was the turning point of the genocide of the Jews. About 3 years after the Nuremberg Laws were introduced, Kristallnacht, also known as the “Night of the Broken Glass”, happened in November 9 and 10, 1938. The name “Night of Broken Glass” comes from all the shattered glass from all the smashed windows of Jewish buildings during Kristallnacht. On November 7, 1938, a 17 year old Polish Jew shot a German official, Ernst Vom Rath, who died 2 days later because of his injuries he received of being shot.
The dilemma of whether Americans were willing to fight in the Vietnam War seems to boil down to the fact that a large group of American men were not willing and sometimes non-compliant. Having been in two World Wars relatively recently (both of which Americans as a whole were not willing to join) it would make sense that the American people largely would not want to fight a war that was not immediately nor in the foreseeable future a threat to our safety and freedoms. On March 31, 1966, 11 members belonging to a group known as the Committee of Non Violent Action publically resisted the draft, burning their draft cards as self-proclaimed “pacifists.” The protesting members of the CNVA were assaulted by a large crowd of over 250 pro-war protestors
The United States intervention in Vietnam is seen by the world as America’s greatest loss and longest war. Before the start of the war in Vietnam, the thought of the United States losing this war was unheard of because America was technologically superior, no country in south East Asia could contend with them. Lyndon B. Johnson announced that he would not be the president to allow South East Asia to go Communist . Why the United States lost the war has been a huge debate since the end of the war, because there were so many factors affecting why they lost; the war was a loss politically, after losing support from not only the American public but also the South Vietnamese and losing a political mandate for the war by 1973, when the last

The Vietnam War was a result of the United States’ involvement in the Cold War against the USSR. The main goal of the United States during the Cold War was to contain communism and prevent the USSR from affecting other countries with their communist government. One of the concerns for President Dwight D. Eisenhower was that if communism spread to Vietnam, then other countries in Southeast Asia would become more susceptible to adopting communism. As a result, The United States entered a war in Vietnam, where they supported South Vietnam against the communist government of North Vietnam. The Vietnam War was a failed attempt by the United States to contain communism and support South Vietnam, because after decades of combat, the United States
The Gulf of Tonkin resolution was set as an attempt to contain communism in 1964 after the Gulf of Tonkin incident. This incident gave the U.S authority to join in the Vietnam war to try to seize communist aggression. Whether the United States should have been in the Vietnam war or should have stayed out is a very controversial issue. The United States however should not have been part of the Vietnam war due to political reasons.
