In this world, there have been many acts of violence. This is a very important factor in showing that mankind’s evil doings have been present for a very long time. That plays into why genocides cannot be avoided at this time. I do think that man’s inherit sin makes us fall to hate crimes. Genocide is not a term to be used loosely, and few murders can count as genocides. One of the most frustrating things is that sometimes, after a group of people commit these horrid slaughters of millions upon millions of people, they have the nerve to outright ignore the people affected by it and will say the genocide never happened. This has happened very famously to the Armenian Genocide, which ended after the killing of over 1 million Armenians (DailyMail). …show more content…
It happened to try and expel Armenians from the areas held by the Ottoman Empire. This extermination was held by the Turkish government, which denies that it has happened to this day and Turkey has gone as far as to ban speaking about what happened to the Armenians (Staff). The events here had taken place before the holocaust, and genocide was a term that was coined in reference to this Armenian murder. The term was coined by a Jewish person in 1948, in reaction to what had happened to the poor Armenians. It’s almost a sad irony what would be happening soon after with the holocaust, as the happenings of the holocaust had not really been discussed with the whole world. (Stanley). A very sad thing to point out is that 44th president, Barack Obama, didn’t recognize the acts as a genocide, even though he had promised he would do this. It is starting to show that people aren’t very good at heart as Obama was likely trying to get the important Armenian vote but then realized a relationship with Turkey would be better off, but at what price does it come with …show more content…
To some, man is born on a blank slate and they dictate what happens to their life. It seems more likely, though, that man is born evil. Children do not have to be taught to be evil, and usually they aren’t even taught how to be evil whatsoever. So if people were truly blank slates, wouldn’t we be filled with good people? That’s how most parents want their children to end up but in this life, you can’t avoid the inevitable. Children are born wild and though it isn’t a sign of evil, it’s a sign that they are born with something. That something is a sense for freedom. Kids can grow rebellious due to restrictive parents and therefore could become potentially evil. For Hitler, we don’t exactly know what caused him to kill off so many jews. Some people have speculated that his mother/aunt was jewish and they treated him badly. But does that really sound right? It’s not like you wake up angry because someone got you mad, so you decide to attempt an extermination of a huge group of people. Hitler obviously had something wrong in his head, something he had to have an instinct of. He almost had a natural anger and need for command, which came out through his speeches. The Armenian Genocide was a different story. The Turkish government was trying to force out Armenians by killing them. That is not too smart of a move, especially considering all of the negatives to it such as so many dead bodies and an extremely
Mass extermination and deportation of Western population of Armenia, Cilicia and other provinces of the Ottoman Empire carried out by the ruling circles of Turkey in 1915-1923. The policy of genocide against Armenians was due to several factors. The leading role among them was the ideology
The aggressors engaged in the genocide because the Armenians were the first Christian nation and wanted independence. What really occurred in the genocide was a massacre against many of Armenian men, women, and the elderly. There were many attempts made to stop the Turks in the genocide but the Russian troops were the ones who helped the surviving Armenians. The Armenian men were shot in small groups while being tied together with rope. The children were converted from Christians into Muslims and the boys went through a painful circumsion. The women and the elderly were forced onto a death march which lastly months. If they tried to rest they were brutally beaten and focused to get back and march. Those who survived the march were killed when they got to the destination by being drowned, thrown off a cliff, or burned alive. At least 600,000 Armenians were killed in the
In the period after World War I and before the tragic Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide is often forgotten. During this time period the Turkish countryside was a garbage disposal for decomposing bodies that drenched the air with its vulgar stench. Within the eight year period of 1915 to 1923, an estimated three quarters of the original Armenian population was victim to blood ridden Turkish hands.
The Armenian Genocide was carried out during World War 1 between the years nineteen fifteen and nineteen eighteen. It was planned and managed by the Turkish government against the entire Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire. The mass of the Armenian population was forcibly removed from Armenia and Anatolia to Syria, where the mass was sent into the desert to die of thirst and hunger. Large numbers of Armenians were systematically massacred all over the Ottoman Empire. Women and children were abducted and terribly abused. The entire wealth of the Armenian people was confiscated. After a year of calm at the end of World War One, the slaughter was renewed between nineteen twenty and nineteen twenty three the turks organized massacres of Armenians in and as a result of Turkish atrocities more than one million of Armenians were slaughtered, died from cold, hunger and epidemics, hundreds of thousands Armenians were captivated, assimilated, deported by force from their native places (Armenocide.am). Today, most historians call this event genocide–“a premeditated and systematic campaign to exterminate an entire people.” The Armenian people were issued to deportation, seizure, persecution, massacre, and hunger. Ordinary Armenians were turned out of their homes and sent on death marches through the Mesopotamian desert without food or
There are more than one ways that the holocaust is very similar to the Genocide in Armenia. Like Hitler, The Turkish government had devised and set into motion a plan to exterminate more than one million of turkeys Armenians. Like the holocaust in Germany, the genocide in Armenia had a lot to do with religion and in almost a super similar situation to the holocaust, it all started to go bad when a group called the "young Turks" decided they wanted all the power and wanted any religion but theirs out of turkey. By April of 1915 hundreds were arrested and thousands were taken from their homes and put on death marches without food and water through the desert and just like in the holocaust, people were also tortured and killed in very cruel manors.
The Armenian Genocide was a very bad thing during a very bad time. One of the main causes of the genocide was the intolerance of a tyrannical regime. During this time it caused a lot of different problems for the armenians. During this time there were about 1.5 million Armenians living in the empire in 1915 and almost 1.2 million people died during the genocide. This event caused a lot more things to go on in the future because of how bad it really was.
The Armenian Genocide is the name given to the events of 1915-1923 in the Ottoman Empire, which was renamed Turkey after its founding father, Mustafa Ataturk. The Muslim majority destroyed the Armenians' homes, churches, and livelihoods in a continuous murderous event that took its course over 8 years. An estimated 1 million to 1.5 million Armenians died in this Genocide, and other ethnicities died as well including Greeks and Azerbaijanis who happened to be living in Armenian neighborhoods. (University of Michigan) The victims were sometimes forced to walk on endless marches that were intended to move the entire population out of the country and east to the mountains. Any Armenians who died on the march were left on the road to rot. The Armenian Genocide was first recognized by the Russian Empire in 1915, who saw what was happening before Europe did. The leaders of the Ottoman Empire, including Ataturk, were creating a modern Turkey for Turks, at the expense of all the minorities of the Ottoman Empire, and without mercy for any who would resist.
People throughout history have committed horrible crimes because they believed their cause to be just as the rest of the world watched on in horror. Some of these crimes became known as genocides. Genocides were acts of deliberate violence that killed thousands, or millions, of people based on the race, ethnicity, or religion. Its a term that was coined recently, but genocides like this have been happening since the beginning of time. There are articles that suggest the Neanderthals went extinct because of a mass genocide perpetrated by the Homo sapiens. It is a natural instinct for people to wipe out others they consider to be threatening, and unless these past crimes are remembered and spoken of, they will keep happening.
The Armenian Genocide began during World War I (1914-1918). The Ottoman Turks were very unfair to the Armenians, but the trend towards constitutional governments in Europe and this had made the Armenians ask for more and more equal rights under the government of the Ottoman Empire in the mid-1800s. The Ottoman Empire had a decline in power and military losses experienced early in World War I caused the Ottoman government to use the Armenians as their victims for these problems, and the Armenian Genocide
Approximately one and a half million Armenians were killed from 1915-1923. The remaining part was either Islamized or exiled.” The Armenian Genocide was a horrific event that caused the Armenians to have a major loss in population. From this, the Armenians should have been given reparations, but were not and that still affects them to this day.
The Armenian Massacre happened in 1894-1896 and the Armenian Genocide happened in 1915-1920 which was caused by the Turkish Government. The Turkish Government’s aim was to remove all the Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire because they were more educated and wealthier then the Turkish population . The Turkish Government was also worried that the Armenians would become allies with Russia, who were a threat to Turkey . They killed and deported the Armenians to prevent this happening. It has been estimated
History and Biography When looking into this topic I found it to be more and more interesting. I never really thought about what generation I am. I have just always heard “you’re a 90’s kid,” but to me being born in 1996 does not mean I am a 90’s kid. Yes, I was born in the 90’s but I really did not get to experience it.
Since humans have walked this Earth we have seen and recorded countless acts of violence that have defined our history. The reason violence still persists today is because people sometimes feel the need to kill in order to achieve a goal. Also, in history, we have seen many acts of genocide that have decimated some cultures and left other cultures powerless after they have been brutally tortured. “The term genocide emerged in the early 1940s as the Nazis carried out their crime.” Genocide is the act of one group of people destroying a certain population for their own gain. Reasons for executing a genocide include wealth, racism, land, religion, and political ideology. The most famous genocide in the world is the Holocaust and this was the deliberate
Genocide has occurred since the beginning of civilization, it has been part in how groups or nations achieve their goals. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, genocide is defined as “the intentional killing of all the people of a nation, religion, or racial group”. The Armenian genocide was a period between 1915 and 1918 during World War I when the Ottoman Empire, now Turkey, committed mass killing against the people of Armenia. The Armenian people were conduct to different mistreatments, such as, torture, expropriation, deportation, massacre and other atrocities (Armenian National Institute). Furthermore, the genocide was executed by the political party in power the Committee of Union and progress (CUP). At the time, the CUP was known as The Young Turks and it was administrated by three key members: Mehmet Talaat, who was minister of interior in 1915 and Prime Minister in 1917; Ismail Enver, who was Minister of war; and Ahmed Jemal, who was Minister of Marine. The tree members of the CUP founded a secret militia formed with convicts and mercenaries (Armenian National Institute). Moreover, it is estimated that 1.5 million Armenian were killed during this period, and hundreds of thousands became homeless or refuges. In 1923, the Armenian population of the Anatolian region at the east of Turkey was almost decimated (Adalian para. 2). There were to main reasons of the Armenian Genocide: The crisis of the Balkan Wars and the paranoia of the government
The Armenian genocide happened around the time that World War I started. It was considered one of the first genocides of the twentieth century. In the timeframe of spring of 1915 through the fall of 1916 there were millions on Armenian people living in the Ottoman Empire. By the end of this horrific event there were over 1.5 million people killed. This genocide happened over a period time, where different techniques were used to get rid of this population. This population was mistreated because of their religion. They were to leave their homes and families to be killed. The young Turks wanted only their people in the country. To prevent genocide again, the countries need to enforce that they will not help any leader that is willing to do something so devastating. Genocide can only go forward if there is support. If we cut the ties, millions of lives can be saved.
