Why College Education Is Important To Me

I believe that college is the right choice for me. I’ve grown up looking forward to advancing my education and creating a foundation for a future career. Both of my parents are college graduates and ingrained in me from a young age that college is the path to success. My aunts, uncles, and cousins are also highly successful after completing college. All the adults that make an impact in my life have gone to college, and I believe if I continue advancing my education I will turn out extremely successful.

College is important to me because it is the key that will open my future to many possibilities, which can lead to success. By not having a college degree it will limit my options of careers. Neither of my parents have a college degree nor I have had to work harder to survive in this country. Since I will be the first to attend college in my family, I am excited how this will benefit my whole family.

Many people find themselves questioning the importance of a college education. They ask themselves, “Why is College important to me?” One answer is extremely crucial in todays economy. In order to succeed and have little or no struggle financially, you must have a education that will end up being a career of your choice. Not just something that you have to settle for.

Attending college for the first time is an important, rewarding decision that I made for a good reason. I learned a lot about myself that will help me in my future. Setting goals, having expectations, and reflecting why I am in college is incredible to think about.

A college degree is important for a variety of reasons for both the young and the old, namely to develop or improve one’s trade skills, to experience different cultures and to increase one’s educational background in order to attain a higher paying job. For me, a college degree is important because it will help me to attain the educational background I need to make myself more marketable in the ever changing workforce. It will also provide me with the confidence and skills needed to apply for a better paying job or aid me in attaining the ever elusive promotion, if I so desire.

Continuing my education has been a goal of mine for some time, but I haven’t made the commitment until now. There are several reason why I chose to return to school after so long, the primary reason being advancement opportunities in my career. My other motivating factor is my daughter. I am looking forward to the knowledge I will gain and the ability to implement that knowledge into my everyday life.

I am motivated by my dreams, being more success and also living a better life. In the great words of Nelson Mandela “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’’. So it’s very important to be ahead in life and for me to be focus of my career goals and what I want to accomplish. College also gives you great experience in the fields and real life training, college can also enhance skills set on computers and areas of work that high school didn’t teach you, so it’s important for me to get the education I need. A degree also can provide me with promotions in the near future.

Patty Murray said “A good education means learning to read, write and most importantly learn how to learn so that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up.” Getting a college education will help open so many doors and give me opportunities to better myself, and provide me with a more successful life that I can be proud of. In today’s society it is hard to get a good job or have a stable career without first getting a college degree. Ever since I was a child, I had always been bombarded with the same question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. I was quite indecisive so my answers changed from astronaut to scientist to lawyer to president almost every other week. Regardless of what I had responded, my mom would always remind me about how essential a college education would be to obtaining that goal. Every child has a dream, whether it’s to be a doctor, a police officer or a fire fighter. As a child I always had one dream: I wanted to become a teacher. Many days I would come home after school, along with my sisters and cousins, and play “school.” I was always the teacher. I would stand by the door, papers in hand, giving them work to do. Going to college is a big jump in the life of anyone who decides to enroll and not everyone who attends has the same expectations. Coming to Western Kentucky University, I have high hope and expectations. I admit that I want to have a lot of fun socially, but I also want to succeed academically. I believe WKU is a good place for me. I think being on this campus is going to help me grow as a person.
