Did you ever think to yourself, why are women’s pro sports never on tv? Little girls can have a women’s pro sport that they play to watch on TV. Girls who play sports have an example of how they’re supposed to do something in a specific sport. There is another way to do learn how to play the game properly. There should be more women’s pro sports on TV. Little girls can have another women’s pro sport on TV other than basketball which is rarely on. Many people across America think the games will be boring or less aggressive. According to my classmate Molly, “field hockey, volleyball, and softball are never on TV.” Women can be stronger or just as strong as men. This proves that little girls can have another sport on TV. Girls who play sports have an example of how they’re supposed to do something. Most people across the country think men are more skillful than women. According to my classmate Nick, “girls are underrated by boys, when boys are just the same.” I think the more examples the better because you can learn more and the more you learn the better you get at the game you play. This proves that girls who play sports have an example of how they are supposed to do something by watching TV. …show more content…
According to my classmate Angelina, “young kids want to learn to learn to play the game.” According to my classmate Brianna, “ it's only boys on TV.” Without women’s sports less and less girls will be interested in sports. When it comes to sports women can beat the men. In a marathon the women’s times were five minutes faster. This proves that women’s sports on TV is another way to play the
Ever since the ancient Greece, men have held athletic competitions or sports. It is only in modern times that women have had an opportunity to compete. Most sports still don't have men and women directly competing against one another. In the past athletic instructors adapted the rules to make sports less physically taxing for women. For instance in basketball, to ensure that girls maintain proper decorum, they were forbidden from snatching the ball and dribbling it more than three times in row. Females would not be considered strong enough to play a full-court basketball game until 1971. Women have struggled to be taken seriously as athletes for more than two centuries. Over the years, females have
Starting with how women are portrayed in media, Trolan (2013) states that in today’s society, individuals are shown magazines, newspapers, and television programs with articles and photographs, “of what it means to be a woman or man” (Trolan, 215). This is remarkably obvious when discussing the world of sport. Although women have achieved a somewhat higher level of respect in the everyday world, within the sporting world, “they are still viewed as women first and athletes second” (Trolan, 215). Krane, Choi, Baird, Aimar, and Kauer (2004) also articulate that women participating in sport live in two extremely separate cultures: the sporting culture and the culture in which they face the continual battle between being an athlete and being a woman. Being viewed as
In the United States, a report by the National Women’s Law Center found that about 28 percent of coeducational public high schools don't offer equivalent resources to girls’ sports teams. Team USA's soccer victory should generate greater interest in women's sports and interscholastic competitions that could ignite professional athletic careers.
Throughout history, woman have been fighting for equality with men. This fight isn’t over and doesn’t stop with the right to vote or the right to wear pants. The progressive movements of feminism are starting to creep into younger generations, including, but not limited to young girls wanting to play on predominantly male-dominated sport teams. There are a lot of controversies when looking at this topic, saying there’s a natural strength advantage, it would be uncomfortable for a male to compete alongside females, among other reasons but ultimately, if the drive and effort is present, there are legal rights and no legitimate reason for woman to not be given the opportunity to prove themselves and normalize the incorporation of females to male sports.
Turn on ESPN, and there are many female sports reporters, and many reports on female athletes. Flip through Sports Illustrated, and female athletes are dotted throughout the magazine. Female athletes star in commercials. Female athletes are on the cover of newspapers. Millions of books have been sold about hundreds of female athletes. However, this has not always been the case. The number of females playing sports nowadays compared to even twenty years ago is staggering, and the number just keeps rising. All the women athletes of today have people and events from past generations that inspired them like Babe Didrikson Zaharias, the All-American Professional Girls Baseball League, Billie Jean King, and the 1999 United States Women’s World Cup
i think girl sports should be more televised and more appreciated. Girls play as rough as boys do. People focus more on male sports than girls, i have experienced this myself with my parents and brother. i’ve played every sport you can think of. I’ve played soccer, track, volleyball, basketball, softball, and even dance.
The sports world has been a new area where women are recognized. In previous times women’s sports were almost non-existent. In schools many girl teams did not receive adequate funds for uniforms and equipment. Boys sports were much more popular, such as football or basketball. If a girl wanted to play a guy sport she would be labeled as a
Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform well in that sport.
First of all, women are doing better in sports than men right now. Tom Mortenson from the University of North Carolina says “The boys are about where they were 30 years ago.” But he also says that “The girls are just on a tear of doing better.” With the studies showing that women make up 58 percent of colleges now. Which show that we want to learn new sports and how men play it.
Women have struggled for more than two centuries to be taken serious as professionals. There should not be a double standard in sports especially if it is loved and played by both genders. Over the years, females have competed against the stereotype of being too fragile both mentally and physically to play strenuous sports. The passion and work ethic of the female professional athletes is just as strong as the males and everyone should be treated equal and be able to have a chance at making a better living for themselves as well as their family. One area that still faces a continual struggle in sports is gender equality. Female
As you can see, women's sports have been around for sometime and are continually increasing in popularity. As for the coverage of these sports, something needs to be done. "In 1993, 94 percent of men's sports got the attention, women's sports five percent, and gender neutral one percent" (1A+). In-depth coverge of organized women's sports such as golf, tennis, running, and basketball was minimal. Production quality camera work, and editing in women's NCAA basketball games have improved, but production quality is uneven and behind that of men's games. Pre-game, half-time, and post-game shows seem to be longer and better quality in men's games. Half-time shows of women's games are used to build audience interest in the upcoming men's games, rather than focusing on statistics, or strategies related to the women's
No matter what is choosen, girls are still playing a “boys” sport. Boys don’t like it because we “can’t keep up” or “aren’t as physical”. All sports are physical, but all athletes need to decide how physical he/she wants to get. Girls should be able to play sports in order to stay active and fit; learn life skills, teamwork, and cooperation as well as achievements in work and school. Each athlete knows what it takes to become a better player or even to play the game. “You saw the ratings in Sochi. I think they were better than the men”(Colageo). In the Olympics, the women's team got the silver medal. Meanwhile, the men's team didn't get even get on the board.
By turning women away from playing certain sports, we are influenced to believe that they are not as qualified to play, compared to men. (Creedon, 1994). Ironically, women on the field seem to have to act tougher than the men. If an
During this century women have been able to break out of the traditional female mold. Women have broken the chains that bond them to the home and have emerged into all sorts of male dominated arenas, including sports. Women have become athletes in their own right. In the last ten years there has been validation for the female athlete. The WNBA was created giving women a professional league in a mainstream traditionally male sport for the first time since the All American Girls Professional Baseball League went out of existence in the 1950s. And recently a woman made the cut and participated on the professional golf circuit with the men. Today, we see women athletes in the media regularly. Women's college basketball is given airtime on weekends just as men's is.
Furthermore, sports is also very important and essential for women. In today's world. women participation in sports have become an
