Why are some people so cruel to other individuals or other species? This question comes to my mind very often when I read or watch the news. As I started to look for answers to my question I realized that the answer is not a simple one. There are so many different types of cruelty caused by humans or in some cases by a few other primates. Cruelty for survival and adaptation to our environment: It takes us back to the days when our survival depends on the “fight or flight response”. The human species might have been extinct without it, so it was necessary that time. Today's environment for most people very different from the past when responding to a perceived threat or danger was the matter of life and death. We still have this reaction
We are only cruel in certain situations and everyone is capable of brutality during the circumstances one is fitted throughout with the human nature of life. Wes, the prisoner, ended up killing a man named Ray after he beat him up because he was angry. “Those who shocked the victim at the most severe levels came only from the sadistic fringe of society” (Milgram 75). It just represents the type of hostility environment he was grown up in and that human cruelty is evident in every single person. If there is a power of authority present, you’re less likely to feel a sense of compassion because you are following the arrangement of your
Increased awareness regarding animal cruelty would benefit society, pet owners, and animals themselves. When a problem is identified, it becomes easier to work out solutions. Animal cruelty is an issue on a global scale; animal torture and neglect does not only exist in the United States. Animal cruelty is the “crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in an imminent
Murder and abuse cases never fail to startle society. Moral codes are flouted with unmatched rigorousness by these indubitable egregious crimes. Sufferers in these cases are often people. Nonetheless, these callous obscenities should not be seen as less important when animals are the victims. Animals undergo horrendous abuse due to barbaric individuals, greed, and unnecessary lab testing.
There are some people who intentionally harm animals because of their low self-esteem. “These are people who intentionally hurt animals because they enjoy hurting things, or because it makes them feel powerful. Many of these people would hurt other people if they could get away with it. They just choose to hurt animals because animals are more helpless than people,” found by the American Prosecution Research Institute, in the article of "Real Issues".
It is a form of suffering shared by all of humanity and "A touch of suffering makes the whole world kin"(Klinkowitz 31). If everyone is aware of cruelty and against it, then stopping it is no longer an
Fast food chains promote eating animals, cosmetic brands sell makeup that infected or even blinded small rodents. But who said this was okay? When life became stable, the nomadic movement stopped, and the industrial revolution boomed people used so much and did not realize the repercussions. It was then that birds were hunted and killed for the feathers on hats as a fashion statement, which resulted in the extinction of the Plume. Why were humans once in love with animals as children, yet grow up to be harmful towards them? A change in thoughts, feelings, or actions because of group pressure is known as conformity (Huffman). Humans can not stray from conforming to the group pressure around them. As humans evolved their thoughts changed, they got smarter and stronger becoming the most intelligent being. Somewhere along the lines, humans began thinking that harming an animal for the resources it will provide gives the human race the one up strategy. However, some may say cruelty is a part of human nature. In recent studies science has shed light on this question, and the main culprit at works seems to be envy. The more we envy someone, the more pleasure we derive when that person meets some horrid end (Shammas 2013). So at some extent we may envy the animals around us, maybe their kind nature, their ability to fight for their own. At some point
Laws are not strong enough against animal cruelty and people do not know about this problem because it is not as prominent as others. Some of the reasons humans kill animals is for food, clothing, and entertainment. The way we kill animals in doing these are very brutal and inhumane. The only thing they care about is to produce a mass amount of meat, in a short period of time, and with little food to feed the animals. The last thing they are worried about is the animal itself and its feelings and needs.
Over the centuries, animals have suffered from cruelty from humans. In the United States, animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animals have been inflicted with pain from humans for reasons other than self-defense. They have been slaughtered for their food and fur for personal gain in profit. In a majority of cases they have even been abused for someone’s own personal amusement or out of rage filled impulses. In some cases animals are found and rescued. They are given the second chance in life to experience what life should be like compared to what they once had.
This is caused by a pessimistic mindset instilled in a majority of humans which would often lead them to develop the trait of cruelty. Humans have refined cruelty into forms of torture and mind games, one being their ability to sense weakness in an individual and attacking on that weakness. Xunzi states that these actions of manipulation are used against each other for personal benefits. Although, Mencius describes humans as having a conscience that functions to perceive the mortality of one’s actions. There is something deep down that holds humans accountable for their actions which shows that certainly not all humans can be evil.
“It is quite clear that in abusing animals we abuse our relationship with animals, and that we abuse ourselves. We become less human to the extent that we treat any living beings as things” (R.D. Laing). There is a very evident connection between animal cruelty and cruelty to other humans. In studies conducted between 1983 and 2004, 60% of children who met the criteria for child abuse/neglect had families that were cruel to their pets. In 88%
Cruelty is a state of mind when the human being or a living thing shows out its aggressiveness and hatred towards another living thing through aggressive or verbal abuse to the person or other living thing they hate. Being cruel is mostly likely when you are given power or responsibility over another human being or a group of human beings. Being cruel also involves the act of being to cruel to animals, either hitting them with a stick or not giving them food on time is considered cruelty in dogs point of view. This question still sticks on `are humans inherently cruel or trained to be cruel´.
While the human species have made some great accomplishments, it is also not a perfect species, especially when compared to some other species. One of these drawbacks is that the human species is very aggressive toward others of the same
Furthermore, something that should be taken into deeper consideration is that, if those harsh and merciless people are injuring and potentially killing all these defenseless animals what do you think they are doing to their children? If they do in fact have
I don’t understand why some people have to be so cruel. If the person that’s doing something wrong thinks it’s a joke, IT’S NOT! There is nothing funny about it, it is mean. Don’t bully someone because something is making you mad. Express your anger by writing it down or talk to somebody about your problem. Don’t take it out on other people. It isn’t the right thing to do. You don’t judge people by the way they look or the way they dress. You don’t know what is going on in their life, or why they act the way they do. So therefore you shouldn’t bully them.
Unfortunately today there are many cases of animal abuse happening around the world. Animal cruelty or animal abuse can be defined as the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. There are many different types of abuse such as using animals for research, using animals for entertainment purposes, abandoning animals to shelters, and animal neglect. We need to raise awareness and find a solution to these issues. Animals are suffering and we need to help them.
