Why Are Outsiders Contribute To Our Society?

Outsiders remain misunderstood geniuses. There are many people who have contributed significantly to the intellectual world. For example Ben Franklin, “he said to have favored air baths”(130). Franklyn would sit in a room that was cold and wear nothing which persists as very strange and peculiar in the normal, natural world. Franklin is considered an outsider, but he is one of the greatest minds of English thinking for his correlation between lighting and the fact that it conducts electricity. Outsiders: Misunderstood or Misjudged? Outsiders, defined as a person who does not belong to a particular group. The bigger question is: What qualifies them as an outsider? Or how does one determine that this “outsider” really is different from everyone else? Do we get to know this person before we provide them with the title or do we simply give it to them based on the way we view them from afar?

What does it mean to be an "outsider?" S.E. Hinton wrote the book "The Outsiders." This is a story about two groups of teens: the Greasers and the Socs. The Socs are popular and have lots of money. The Greasers are not popular and do not have a lot of money. "The Outsiders" teach us about stereotypes, friendships, and acceptance. "The Outsiders" is a timeless novel that people can continue to relate to today.

An outsider is someone who is not accepted or is isolated from society. ‘Of Mice and Men’ is set in the 1930’s, where society considered many people as outsiders. During this period, many people were racist, sexist and prejudice towards disabled people. This is shown with several characters in the novel including Crooks, Curly’s wife and Candy who are all considered as outsiders in this novel, since they each had something that the society at that time were prejudice towards.

An outsider can be a person who does normally not fit in with the people around them, acknowledging that they are unique and special in their own way. Another way an outsider can be looked at as is “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (Dictionary.com). With there being different meanings to the word outsider an actual outsider can be timid and absent to the people around them or they can be outspoken and persistent by any means necessary.

Being an outsider means you are set apart from the "norms" of society. Not fitting social images can make a person feel unconnected to a group, making them an outsider. The passage "Outsider in a Small Town" explains this idea extremely well when it states, "The next Sunday, we went to a church where no one looked like us. We crossed the line, breaking an unspoken rule. We were the outsiders who didn’t understand the order.

Have you ever seen someone that looks weird walking around? Well these people could be outsiders. You might think bad of them but they could be useful in society.For example eminem was a outsider, the people that took down the confederate monuments were, and they have unbiased opinions.

Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.

According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, the word “Outsider” is “a person who does not belong to or is not accepted as part of a particular group or organization”. That could mean that maybe the main group of characters in the book, the Greasers, were outsiders to all the rich kids, called the Socs. Maybe the Greasers were not accepted into the society of the Socs, and thus called Outsiders.

Authors pick a title of their novel to summarize the meaning of the book within a phrase. S.E Hinton never used the word outsider in the novel, but it still obtains great importance to the story. Personally, an outsider means someone who doesn’t blend into a discrete group. Whether it be the style of clothes or their personality or their social status, outsiders are outside the standard. Ponyboy’s family structure was the polar opposite of normal. When comparing Pony’s 3 teenager family struggling to stay together and pay rent and the rich Soc families with two parents who are there for support, Pony feels excluded by not remembering what it feels like to be engulfed in love by his own parents. There are outsiders everywhere in society, before you judge them consider some thoughts about how they can be important to society. The fact is that they are important to society. They often have good ideas that can change peoples lives, they can be a good person and are kind, and they are inspiring. Outsiders can make good changes in our lives. Take Donald Trump as an example, he had little to no experience in office.

Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? Whether outsiders are misjudged or misunderstood depends on whose perspective you view this question from. When you look at someone you are developing an opinion of them, and you may be misjudging them by deciding they are an outsider. While when you are the person being judged you feel that you are just simply misunderstood. You may have experienced one or probably both of these perspectives. Moreover to truly understand what it means to be an outsider you need to understand both of these perspectives.

An outsider is one who can distance themselves from the norms of society and stereotypes, someone who "fights the system. " Some, when seeing this, would scoff at this, thinking they just don't fit in, when in reality, the "outsider" just doesn't agree with the way of things.
