The Syrian Refugees
The issue of if Syrian refugees should come to America is a big debate today. Everyone has different opinions when it comes to politics. In this essay I will discuss both sides and give my opinion about this matter.
Many U.S. citizens have no problem with Syrian refugees coming to America. According to both “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” and “Our Responsibility to Refugees”, The authors feel that The people of the United States are turning their backs on the refugees. In “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” the author says, “The United States has resettled over three million refugees, offering victims of persecution and conflict the opportunity to build a new life. Refugee resettlement is unequivocally safe. It would be wrong, both morally and politically, to curtail Syrian refugee resettlement, and why it is in fact both ethically imperative and politically expedient to instead expand U.S. commitment to refugee resettlement” (Long). This author sees nothing to fear from refugees. Furthermore, the writer of “Our Responsibility to Refugees” states, “The U.S. can do more and we must. Since 2011, more than 4.2 million Syrians have been displaced by war and violence, and fewer than 3,000 of them have resettled in the U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. His administration needs to

President Trump banned, allowing refugees into America in seven different countries. Jeremy Diamond states, “With just a few quick strokes of the pen, President Donald Trump on Friday banned -- temporarily, for now -- roughly 218 million people from entering the United States.” On the other hand, there is several people that don’t agree with the ban. They feel that President Trump is being heartless and unfair. They feel that America had a part in why the Syrian Refugees are at war to begin
Imagine that you are in an airport trying to flee your country because there is a war going on, all of a sudden you get stopped by a security officer saying that the country you are trying to go to does not allow refugees, What would you do? The debate about refugees has been around since World War Two when Hitler was trying to torture or kill all the jews and other people he did not like. Here in America we did not let refugees into the U.S. during the war and a bunch of them were killed, however some did survive. Some people think that we should let them into the United States of America well, others say they should not be allowed to enter the U.S. In the year of 2016 there was around thirty-eight thousand refugees that were allowed into the United States. There were a bunch of other refugees that applied to come to the united states but got denied, because the U.S. did not choose them or they did not pass the test to become a refugee. The idea that refugees should not be allowed into the united states because they could bring disease, they could be a criminal or a terrorist, and they use up our land and resources deserves some merit. However These arguments do not realise that if we bring them into the United States we could save their lives, or give them better living conditions. In this article I will argue that we should allow refugees into the United States, but only under certain circumstances. Those circumstances are they should be allowed into the united
On 27 January President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting all refugee admissions and temporarily barring people from seven Muslim-majority countries. This action is called “Travel Ban.” What does it do? It brings in a suspension of the US Refugee Admissions Programme for 120 days. There is also an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees. And anyone arriving from seven Muslim-majority countries - Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, also faces a 90-day visa suspension. Some visa categories, such as diplomats and the UN, are not included in the suspension. The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama Priority will be given to religious
In attempts to protect the United States from foreign terrorists, President Trump has banned seven different countries from any access into the country for ninety days. The seven countries included in the Travel Ban are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen (Jackson). As for Syria, Trump has placed a ban that has an undetermined length of time. Another aspect of the ban is, “The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama” (BBC). This order not only drastically affects the amount of immigrants entering the country, but also the number of refugees.
The United States should allow the Syrian refugees into the country because we can benefit from it. The intelligence and work strategy of the Syrian refugees can be a great asset to our work field since a lot of Americans are unmotivated and uneducated. In the article Ailing Vermont, it states that “ I saw an opportunity to grow our population, bring in individuals, families with a strong work ethic, who were fleeing for their lives and looking to rebuild their shattered lives.” This evidence from a reliable source informs us that people from Syria have a good work ethic which can benefit us in many positive ways. To conclude, the united states should allow Syrian refugees into the country because they can bring a new and
The first reason the Syrian refugees should be allowed to enter the United States is that America is a multi-cultural country, whose structure are freedom, and equality. The
America has been a proud nation and has always allowed immigrants from all over the world to come in. President Donald Trump has been working on trying to keep America safe, so he is trying to send away potential terrorist immigrants, such as Syrian Refugees, because he believes that this will stop all terrorist attacks on America. Trump signed three executive orders during the week of January 23, which threatened the rights of the immigrants and refugees that would want to go to America. There are 51 Muslim-majority countries and territories and Trump placed travel limits on seven of them (Murdock, 1). There has been a concern for stricter border laws. There are 205 million people affected by this and 1 billion people not affected by this
Currently in Syria there is a civil war going on that has led thousands of refugees to flee to other countries. Many people in these countries are debating on whether or not these refugees should be allowed within their borders. Leaving these debates and questions of moral standing out of it I believe in my own opinion that it would be best not to allow them into the United States. Allowing them to enter our borders could have drastic consequences that could leave a huge burden on our country, and the society that dwells within it.
Throughout American history, immigrants have been entering the country to avoid political corruption and civil rights violations. The United States have been a safe haven for many. According to the articles; The Refugees at Our Door, A Few Other Times Countries Banned Religious or Ethnic Groups and Feds to states: No, you cannot ban Syrian refugees, America has been a home for people seeking asylum. Attempting to ban refugees from entering the country shows how unethical the morals of America has become. America does not have the ethical right to stop the immigration of refugees, however, it is acceptable for Americans to have their reservations as to whether it is safe to accept strangers into their homes.
Since 2011, more than 250,000 people have been killed in the Syrian civil war. Millions of other Syrians are searching for a secure home. America could provide a home to these Syrians if they were well prepared and funded. Taking in Syrian refugees would have no help to Syria, be dangerous for American citizens and be an extremely ignorant move, considering we are not prepared for almost 50,000 refugees. Syrian refugees should not be allowed into America.
Syrian refugees crossing the border is currently the headline of every news station. If allowed into America, every human life could be affected. Syrian refugees should not be allowed to enter into the United States because the threat they pose is greater than the advantage America could give them. America has a high homeless rate which will never be resolved if the refugees are welcomed in. Allowing refugees across the border could result in an outbreak of war.
With an increasing number of refugees from Syria and pressure from the international society, last year, the United States made a controversial decision of accepting Syrian Muslim refugees. Though this is considered a reasonable humanitarian act, I believe that it could cause terrorist attacks and financial problems.
As President Barack Obama said, “Apparently they are scared of widows and orphans coming into the United States of America” (Darcy). The Syrian refugee crisis is a huge subject of discussion during this presidential race and the results of this election, whether Republican or Democratic, will be the difference between helping or hurting this migration. The Syrian refugee crisis has been a worldwide problem since the civil war started in 2011. The death toll quickly rose as the violence got out of hand. The next president is going to ultimately decide the fate of tens of thousands of Syrian refugees, innocent men, women and children. Currently our president is going to allow up to 10,000 Syrian refugees to find safe haven in the US. Every single presidential candidate has their own stance on the issue, Republicans lean towards restriction of the refugee policy, while Democrats lean towards loosening it.
Terrorism is a legitimate threat in the world today. Nations around the globe handle this matter through various ways based on foreign and domestic policies. Presently, the world is being ravaged by war, terror, and fear. People are displaced throughout the world, simply looking for refuge and a safe harbor. The United States of America is a safe place, Americans think Syrian refugees could be a threat to national security. These particular refugees are looking for a safe haven as well as means to a better healthcare system. This is a duel sided argument as there are people of the United States that wish to help and aid those in need. With the world facing certain crisis, conflict, and displacement, Americans are torn between allowing Syrian refugees into the country.
President Barack Obama plans to let 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States. Letting these refugees into the United States will do more harm than good. Why take the chance when it’s obvious that there will be more spending and less protecting? Syrian refugees should not be allowed into the country until the government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists.
Since the end of WWII, the United States has been a large contributor of foreign assistance, supplying countries such as Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and other strategic partners of the US with food, weapons, and other war-based necessities. Although this has predominantly been the form of foreign support, the modern-day dilemma of refugees has given way to a newly relevant form of international intervention. The world is currently facing the highest displacement levels ever recorded--according to studies done by the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, “an unprecedented 65.6 million people around the world have been forced from home by conflict and persecution... [including] 22.5 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18.” (UNHCR). After further elaboration of those appalling numbers, the United Nations reports that out of 22 million Syrian citizens, 13.5 million require some form of humanitarian service and 5 million have been externally displaced as a result of the Syrian civil conflict. Regardless of the ample amount of dollars spent on supporting other states, the United States simply doesn’t allow enough of those needful foreigners. The Donald Trump Administration needs to support the reinstatement of refugees into the international culture by admitting 500,000 Syrian refugees and expanding the Office of Refugee Resettlement budget by $500 million by the end of President Trump’s 4-year term. As a world superpower, the United States is under the
