The story of "Macbeth" seems to have many different ideas of who was the most responsible for the titular character's downfall. The witches were the ones who gave him the idea that he would become king, telling the man of their predictions may have triggered something within him. But what about his wife? Lady Macbeth was the reason he actually murdered Duncan, giving Macbeth honeyed words and saying that they will be king and queen.
Overall though, the real cause for Macbeth's downfall was the man himself. Macbeth was the one who committed these atrocities, killing Duncan so that the kingdom could fall into his hands and slaughtering the family of Macduff. He angered many people with his brutal actions, so much so that almost anyone would want
