In the play MacBeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is the main character who usurps the throne. Later he causes the death of many people, including many of his friends, in his quest to gain more and more power. Finally, in the last act, a revolution against him occurs which ends his reign. Macbeth’s actions are driven by his emotions, which are greed, regret, and pride. Many of MacBeth’s actions are driven by greed.

Macbeth is one of the most famous stories ever told in shakespeare. With lies piling up and people getting murdered. The three witches and apparitions making the play a little freaky. However, do you ever wonder how Macbeth came to his downfall? Or why he did not last long as king?

Imagine if you could tell people what to do, get whatever you wanted at anytime, and your only job is to sit on a throne all day. This is what it feels like to be a king and the ultimate ruler. Well if you think about it from the realistic perspective it’s not always easy to be able to obtain that role. Not only does it take hard work, but you must be recognized by others so that the throne’s power that you work for is much more than you can imagine. It is when we realize that we will never be able to have such ownership when we commit evil actions from the mind that is not yours to obtain the throne.

Would you kill someone for something that you desire, or would you work hard for it? In “The Tragedy of Macbeth” by William Shakesphere, the play consists of 3 witches planning to meet with each other. The three witches appear in front of two knights whose names are Macbeth and Banquo. The witches then give them prophecies, and one of the prophecies reveals that Macbeth will be king. He became obsessed with the idea and was so obsessed that he killed Duncan, the present king, and then killed Banquo.

Although Macbeth takes action that leads to his tragic downfall, the people around him was actually responsible for what happened to him. In Act 1 Scene 3 the witches tell macbeth that he is thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor and that he “shalt be king hereafter” (Shakespeare I.iii.50). Right after Macbeth receives his prophecies that he will become king, Macbeth thinks of the worst way to get to that power, which is murdering the current king, King Duncan.

These qualities lead the reader to believe that Macbeth is a tragic hero, who gained vast amounts of power only to continuously lust for greater control, which in the end gets him killed. Macbeth stumbles upon the witches, who speak in riddles in order to tell him his fate.

Some may argue that this downfall was caused by Macbeth’s wife, Lady Macbeth, due to her excessive nagging and controlling nature, but he brought everything onto himself. Macbeth’s over ambitiousness, and his tendency to put too much trust into the witches is what caused this moral downfall. Right before Macbeth meets with the witches for the first time, he is being praised by many, including King Duncan. His confidence is high at this point due to his work in battle, and his recognition from the King of Scotland. “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter” (1.3.51).

Macbeth, the once noble hero of Scotland, does not end his story with the same high regard with which he began. In the Shakespearean play, the story’s courageous warrior is consumed by ambition and his physical bravery is not enough to stop him from becoming a tyrant. But who is ultimately responsible for the downfall of Macbeth? It could be said that the outside forces of Lady Macbeth is what led to Macbeth’s demise. Or perhaps fate and the intervening of the three witches set Macbeth on his path of destruction.
