Monday morning during a press conference, President Donald Trump defended the pardoning of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio. In brief, Arpaio was initially found guilty on the charges of criminal contempt for violating court orders, despite the legal argument that he was not knowingly defying the judge’s orders. Specifically, the order to not detain any suspected undocumented immigrants. These rulings were given after a case in 2013 found him guilty of racial profiling. However, on August 25th, President Trump officially pardoned Arpaio, claiming, “Sheriff Joe is a patriot. Sheriff Joe loves our country. Sheriff Joe protected our borders. And Sheriff Joe was very unfairly treated by the Obama administration.” To support his decision, Trump said many people stood beside the pardon, though adding he expected more to show support despite of Hurricane Harvey. …show more content…
“[Arpaio] was treated unbelievably unfairly when they came down with their big decision to get him right before the election voting started, as you know. And he lost in a fairly close election, he would’ve won the election, but they just hammered him just before the election. I thought that was a very, very unfair thing to do.” In addition, Trump also cited other controversial pardonings made by other presidential administrations, including Marc Rich and Chelsea Manning. Speaking of his recent rally in Arizona, he made the claim that during his rally “...the place went absolutely crazy,” when he made reference to Arpaio. To conclude his conference, Trump reiterated the fact that Arpaio won many elections and that he should have won the last
Although there are some elements that could incriminate Riginald Chase such as buying arsenic, the message "cheaters do not win", and his GPS indicating that he was in the place and date of the facts, I consider that there is not enough strong evidence that Chase murderer his ex-wife. A discovery of DNA in the body of Ludlow could have been perhaps the missing puzzle piece that would help to clarify if he did it or not. For this reason I consider Chase not
1) “He’s not going to win. It’s a Republican district. He’d be better for us if he loses. He’ll work for me. He’ll bring his organization with him.”
Forensic argument_ in our city (Phoenix, AZ) we used to have our sheriff Joe Arpaio who was well known as the thoughts sheriff of all the time. Even though, he was doing a great job by keeping our families safe and taking care of the animal cruelty. He was also known as the most racial sheriff of the town. He became notorious to undocumented families after activist start noticed he was violating the federal judge order to stop enforcing civil immigration laws. In 2011 he had a preliminary injunction where the order banned deputies from detaining anyone solely on suspicion they were undocumented. Again, he continued to detain illegal immigrants event though he had an order from the judge. Now, he still in trials and might face up to six months
In 2015, he was transferred to the USB Florence. This was a federal prison in Colorado.
In 2011, a United States Federal District Court Judge ordered Sheriff and Arpaio and his
His assassination was very unsuspected, mysterious, and very sad. There was a person named Oswald right now he is considered guilty. Some people think. he is innocent but it is still a mystery. He is considered guilty because the shot was fired from the 6th floor but once the police came in he was sitting on the first floor eating lunch like it was nothing. Still another thing is he would only have 90 seconds (1 minute 30 seconds) to go from the 6th floor to the 1st and not even winded or nervous, he was regular.
The justice system back then wasn’t as advanced as it is today, but people are still getting punishments that far outweigh their crime that person has committed. Some historians might argue about other conspirators had punishments that far outweighed their crime, George Atzerodt had a punishment that far outweighed his crime, he was assigned to kill the Vice president but he made no attempt to even go to the VP’s room yet he still got a punishment. The country back then was in shock and was trying to find a way of revenge for the president’s death. So they executed Atzerodt in public to make the humiliation even more outstanding.
President Trump completely ignores the rule of law and doesn’t follow the steps to pardon someone for their crime. When Trump pardons Arpaio, he says that he does not care if you follow federal judge’s orders. In my opinion what Trump basically said is if you’re a political supporter of his then our system of government and courts are irrelevant. This statement goes to the very heart of the rule of law so that leads to why did he do it? My first thought is that Trump likes Sheriff Arpaio because he’s a supporter of his; basically, if you’re a supporter of him then you can break the law and violate federal judge’s orders. I personally believe that Trump is a “strong man” and just lets his allies ignore that rule of law and this is crystal clear to me. This was a ruling from a federal judge and Trump just tore it to pieces! Trumps thoughtless decision has now led to his supporters that were in his campaign and administration are now being investigated by Robert Mueller. But, these people being investigated need to remember to just not cooperate with the authorities and if they hold them in contempt of court, oh
In Andrew Cohens article “Yes, America, We Have Executed an Innocent Man” he shares the story of Carlos DeLuna. In February 1983 a robbery and the murder of Wanda Lopez in Texas had occurred. DeLuna was eventually executed because of this. The trial didn’t go that great, DeLuna was found guilty. Although there were not much evidence that he did it. There was one witness but her story of what happened wasn’t clear. Police and investigators found no evidence that it was DeLuna who did it. No blood, DNA, or finger prints were found. Carlos Hernandez, the one who actually committed the crime. Hernandez looked very similar to DeLuna yet Hernandez was a known criminal who used a special knife to murder others like he did to Lopez.
On Friday August 24th, President Donald Trump pardoned a former Arizona sheriff, Joe Arpaio. A court convicted Arpaio of criminal contempt after he ignored a court order in a racial profiling case after he illegally targeted latino families on the basis of him believing them to be undocumented (CNN.com Liptack, Diaz, Tatum).
“What worried me was not what happens to me personally if I failed—what worries me is what happens to these ideas,” he tells Ball when explaining that the fate of American people is more important than his own fate. While considering the possibility of a loss, he admitted he didn’t expect to gain so much popularity, showing dubitatio regarding his own skill. More disinterest appears after this when he met with his volunteers, where he stated that they shouldn’t bother with waving signs for him because of the brutal heat, showing he puts his concern for the peoples’ comfort above his campaign. This shows a personal sacrifice on his part, and sympathy for the supporters, furthering his character and appealing to their
In response to the crowd's overwhelming fervor, Cruz tried to have a rational conversation with the group of fanatical Trump supporters, a move that may be his most ridiculous to date. Playing on the crowd's hate for the media and all things government, Cruz tried to manipulate the protesters' anger in hopes of turning them against Donald Trump and asked,
Who is the most guilty of their alleged crime? Everyone who arrive on Indian Island was accused of some crime. However, a few were more guilty than others. Everyone was accused of murder but, some were to a higher degree than others. All of these alleged murderers were acquitted or not indicted, which is why they were invited to Indian Island. Vera Claythorne, in my opinion was the most guilty out of all the guests on Indian Island. She is behind the murder of a boy named Cyril. Vera had means, motive, and opportunity to be behind the murder of Cyril.
"It is really nice to win the delegates with the votes," Trump said. "Nobody should be given delegates, which is a ticket to victory but not a fair ticket."
A lot of people wonder if Adnan Syed is guilty or innocent, today as a legal assistant I'm going to tell you one important reason why he is innocent. Adnan is not guilty because there is another potential suspect like Jay. Jay's story that "proves" Adnan's guilt, has changed every interview and testimony. Jay had intimate knowledge of the crime he knew things, like if he knew every single thing that Adnan was thinking about which makes everything looked suspicious. Also Jay's stories don't quite match Adnan's cell records.
