Romeo and Juliet was a dramatic love story that talked about the death of two star crossed lovers from different households. The very commonly told story is interpreted differently by hundreds of thousands of people. Often times many different characters are blamed for the death of Romeo and Juliet and then are portrayed as the villian by the readers. Most commonly people will simply blame the death on Romeo and Juliet themselves without analyzing the text, but truly, the only thing that caused their deaths was the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. If the Capulets and Montagues had never been fighting in the first place, if there was never any violence, and if the families would have simply allowed the young couple get married in peace, Romeo and Juliet's death would have never had to happen. …show more content…

The family’s feud forced Romeo and Juliet into hiding their love from society, because they knew it would not be accepted nor tolerated. The lovers knew that they could only see each other in secret and if they were caught they risked getting executed. In one of the most iconic scenes, the balcony scene, Juliet says “If they do see thee, they will murder thee”. (Shakespeare 2.2.70) If the households would have simply allowed them to get married and live in peace, like both Romeo and Juliet wanted, they never would have been put into the situation where they felt the only option left was to end their lives.
