Who Is To Blame For Johnny Cade's Murder

Imagine a sunny day at the West Side Park. Children playing hopscotch and wishing on coins being flipped into the fountain. Now, at that same fountain, imagine an innocent teen being stabbed to death and three liters of blood staining the steps. One summer night, Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade walked to the West Side Park. Bob Sheldon and his friends drove up to the boys while intoxicated. Bob’s friends friends and Johnny’s have had previous disagreements. After fighting, Bob attempted to dump Ponyboy in the fountain when Johnny stabbed him and killed him. Johnny Cade is guilty of Bob Sheldon’s murder because he knew he was guilty and confessed, he wanted to kill him, and he could have attacked Bob in some other way that would not have proven fatal.
Johnny Cade is guilty because he confessed to manslaughter and knew he was guilty. On page 56, Johnny says, “I killed him… I killed that boy.” This evidence supports that Johnny confesses by blatantly saying he killed him. “We gotta get outta here. Get somewhere. Run away. Ponyboy tells Sherry Valance on page 31, “He would kill the next person who jumped him. Nobody was ever going to beat him like that again. Not over his dead body.” This supports how Johnny is guilty by saying he would kill Bob, so he wanted to when the socs jumped him and Ponyboy. On page 49, the book states “He was clutching his switchblade, and it was dark to the hilt.” This explains that Johnny stabbed him all the way down to the hilt, which is so deep it would obviously kill him.” If he attacked him somewhere else, or did not stab so deep, it would not have been fatal. Conclusively, Johnny should be convicted of murder because he wanted to kill Bob and he could have attacked him some other way that would not have proven
