What it Takes
Courage in simple words means an act of bravery. Everyone has their own definition, for some the meaning is much more complicated for others it's very simple. When I think of someone who is courageous I think of my Dad and military individuals people who have fought for their country. People like doctors and scientists people who don't think about themselves when faced with a choice to give up. My definition of courage is a person that has the strength needed to do the unthinkable. Certainly, that is not just it. Courage takes a bigger picture of an act of bravery. When one is courageous enough to do what is right, he earned the utmost respect of human spirit. Harry S. Truman was born in Missouri on May 8, 1884 and was the first of three children born to John Truman, a farmer and mule trader, and his wife, Martha Truman. Harry was named in honor of his maternal uncle, Harrison Young, but his parents could not decide on his middle name, and after more than a month, they finally settled on using the letter “S” as tribute to both of his grandfather's, Solomon Young, and Anderson Shipp Truman.
One of the reasons I chose Truman was when WWI broke out, Truman volunteered for duty even though he was 33 years old and was eligible for the exemption as a farmer, he then helped organize his National Guard regiment, that was called into service in the 129th Field Artillery. Truman had been promoted to captain in France and then was assigned Battery D, known for being the most disorderly battery in the regiment.
