Hercules, a hero from Greek Mythology, is considered to be a symbol of strength. This stereotypical figure comes to mind when thinking of a hero. However, we can find heroes all around us. Some become heroes when life throws challenges their way, and it then pushes them to bring out the best of who they are. Other heroes choose to selflessly dedicate themselves to ameliorate our society and the lives of others. Therefore, we can all be someone else’s hero at some point in our life.
To me, an example of a hero would be a fearless nineteen year old girl from Pakistan determined to make a change. Her name is Malala Yousafzai. In 2012, fifteen year old Malala was shot by the Taliban for speaking up for what should be considered a basic right.
He wears a blue cape. He flies over the tallest buildings. He saves the helpless child. This image is the common ideal of a hero. The concept of a childhood hero displays a character that children look up to -- or their role model.
A hero is someone who is recognized as determined, patient, and most of all, courageous. In I Am Legend by Richard Matheson , Robert Neville is the last man standing after a vampire plague hits and erases the human race. He does whatever possible everyday to try and stay alive, and investigates to try and figure out the cause of the plague, and maybe find hope for the future. In 1984 by George Orwell, Winston Smith is one of the last people in Oceania that isn’t brainwashed by the tyrannical government they are under. He rebels against the government by writing in his diary and having a secret relationship with a woman by the name of Julia. Between
For example, one admirable hero that can be looked up to is Lucy Stone. She is a hero because she spoke up for women's rights and slavery. Lucy helped create the first national Woman's Rights Convention. Not only did Lucy help pass the 1st Amendment, but she also was the first person to get the public to really think about how women were treated and what few rights they had.
I would say my heroic figure Martin Luther King Jr. fits clearly into this type, Realistic Hero because he changed the world momentarily. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the world permanently. He was able to segregate the US and other areas. Thanks to the Civil Rights act of of 1965, MLK segregated civil and economic policies. Also the Voting Rights Act of 1965 gave blacks the right to vote.
Different people have diverse descriptions of what they might call a hero. King Muwatalli II, sometimes referred to as Mutallu or Muwatallish, of the ancient Hittite tribe may be called a hero if we define the term as a person who, endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind (he was determined on reclaiming lands that his people had settled and freeing them from Egyptian rule), sets out to achieve a near-impossible goal (achieving peace by means of war with Ramses II and the Egyptian kingdom), and succeeds in the face of serious opposition (having no allies, being seriously outmanned, and having inferior technology, he was able to force the retreat of the Egyptian king and his army, paving the way for the first documented written peace treaty).
Dr. Martin Luther King jr. fits the criteria of a hero because he was willing to challenge the world of conflict to end the separation between white and black and he also wanted to make a peaceful protest to end the separation without any violence.
Do you know what a Epic Real Hero is? My epic hero is Hercules because he is the Bravest of all because he killed the Nemean Lion. He also had so much Strength that he did what he wished. He also had Immortality he was brave and not really scared of much. He was not fake upon anyone he was talented and was also a divine hero to many. He was the son of Zeus and Amphitry and the great grand-son of Perseus. His greatest adventure have been cataloged as the 12 labors of Hercules.
The concept of an epic hero ordains in most capacities to be born into their position, subsequently having to prove themselves worthy of said position, eventually excelling their birth circumstances and achieving greatness. This is true of most epic heroes, being either demigods, royalty, or both. Hercules is a demigod (explaining his astounding feats of strength and will), Aeneas is a demigod and of a royal bloodline, Odysseus is essentially blessed by the gods and king of Ithica. Those characters’ qualities of birth can be definitively classified as happenstantial luck. Yet, is it luck if one’s powers are inexplicably unique and inherent, not being bestowed? The most enigmatic, yet prominent epic hero who defies the trope of born luck seems to be the Anglo-Saxon character of Beowulf.
Even though the Greeks considered Hercules to be a hero, Hercules would not be considered heroic today because of how overly confident and how he was reckless with his emotions. By being overly confident, you could be seen as arrogant or self-absorbed. An example of this is Kanye West, a rapper who is self-obsessed and he claims that he is much better than anyone else. Like Hercules, Kanye West has considered himself to be equal to the gods. Instead of being praised for this, people would avoid him for his arrogance.
What makes a hero? Is it slaying a mighty monster? Saving a town? Hercules, son of zeus, may have done such things, but is he really one of the good guys? His twelve labours created by king Eurystheus may be seen as heroic acts, but in reality most were along the lines of stealing and murder. That leads to the question, is Hercules a hero or hitman?
Hercules (the last mortal son of zeus) is one of the greatest heroes of Greece and the most admired. He is best known as the most robust of all mortals and stronger than many of the gods. Although he is highly based off of emotions and having a noticeable lack of intelligence, I am still drawn to his many admirable qualities. Hercules has extraordinary strength and courage. When Hera drove him mad making him kill his wife and three sons in spite of being a son of her unfaithful husband, he sought purification not his own death. He is a hero not only for his strength but he helped save towns from evil monsters like the hydra. Hercules also had a strong sense of self-confidence and bravery. For these traits I praise him greatly.
Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Hercules is a man that embodies the ancient Greek ideal of a hero. To understand the nature and perspectives of Romans when it comes to heroes , we need to know about the culture and the values of said culture , and about the social conditions of ancient Greece. In this paper I am going to argue that Hercules is not the ideal of hero of ancient Greek-civilization and. First I will provide a summary of Hercules life story and his deeds and misdeeds. Then I will give a a concise explanation of ancient Greek culture . Then I will argue that Hercules was not seen as an ideal hero and he was ,in fact , a reminder to people what rash decisions and unchecked power brings.
Another idea of a hero was when Gandhi had stood up for his country; India. “Gandhi led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women's rights, and build religious and ethnic amity” plus he had “spent a number of years in jail in both South Africa and India”. In other words Gandhi never gave up showing everyone how India should be independent. Gandhi had stood out his way by leading marches to declare independence. Gandhi had been admired for his bravery (when he was thrown in jail a few times), his confidence (he never showed any sign of weakness) and perseverance (he had never gave up).
Hercules is considered the greatest Greek hero of all. Unlike Theseus, who was both very strong and thoughtful, Hercules simply is strong. In fact, he is the strongest man who has ever existed, and therefore he considers himself something of a god. Indeed, he is half-god, a son of Zeus. Supremely confident, Hercules showed his brute force from a very early age, when he wrestled a snake that had slithered into his baby cradle.
