Romeo is more compulsive then Juliet, in the play Romeo and Juliet. To begin with, Romeo falls in love much to easily. Romeo says to Benvolio, “Out of her favor where I am in love” (Shakespear 1.1.178). This passage shows Romeo is compulsive because he is clearly in love with somebody who doesn’t show any interest is him. Second, he falls in love at first sight. Romeo tells when he first sees Juliet, “O, She doth teach the torches to burn bright!” (Shakespear 1.5.49). This example explains how Romeo is compulsive he has already fallen in love with out even meeting Juliet. Third, Romeo believes his dreams are true and will do things based on his dreams. Romeo says to his best friend Mercutio,
Romantic love is shown when Shakespeare wrote,”O, speak again, bright angel, for thou art/ As glorious to this night being o’er my head,”(2.2.26-27). This quote shows Romeo in Capulet's orchard talking with Juliet. This quote shows importance because Romeo is so in love with her that he compares her to an angel. This scene takes place right after they meet for the first time, so it is clear that Romeo and Juliet fell in love at first sight. He shows romantic love of Romeo and Juliet when he wrote, “...you shall not stay alone/ Till holy church incorporate two in one.”(2.6.36-37). This quote shows Romeo and Juliet getting married by the friar. This is important because this scene isn’t even a full twenty-four hours after they met for the first time. Romeo and Juliet have not had enough time to get to know each other, yet they still get married. This proves that their romantic love has nothing to do with each others personality. Both of these quotes show the romantic love between Romeo and
Through Juliet’s words and actions she continues to be far too impulsive throughout the tragedy. After her first kiss with Romeo during the masquerade, she convinces herself that she is instantaneously in love. When Romeo leaves, Juliet tells herself, “If he be married/ My grave is like to be my wedding bed” (1.5.148-149). When Juliet meets Romeo they exchange very few words, yet they end up kissing and
leave each other. "Let me be ta'en, let me be put to death". He was so
Romeo is even more of a sensitive person when it comes to things involving Juliet. For example, when Romeo says to Juliet, “A thousand times the worse, to want thy light! Love goes toward love as schoolboys from their books; But love from love, towards school with heavy looks.” (2.2.155-156), and this shows Romeo is very sensitive because all Romeo wants to do is make Juliet happy. Since Romeo isn’t used to having a girl love him back because of his history with Rosaline, he gets very excited to discover she loves him back. Romeo acts very impulsive when making decisions involving Juliet. Romeo says to Juliet, “Th’ exchange of thys love’s faithful vow for mine.” (2.2.127). This shows Romeo is impulsive because Romeo consistently makes impulsive decisions without thinking first. One of his major impulsive decisions was when he decided to marry Juliet after less than 12 hours of knowing her. Romeo isn’t the best decision maker, as he doesn’t think before he makes life changing
Firstly, after meeting Juliet for the first time, Romeo falls hopelessly in love. He climbs the wall to her orchard; he drops in where a guard of the Capulet household could have killed him. But he thinks he is on “love’s light wings”(II.ii.30) When Juliet steps on her balcony, she scolds Romeo. But he tells Juliet that he would rather die than be without her love “And but thou love me, let them find me her… My life were better ended by their hate… Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.” (II.ii.80-83) Romeo has only known Juliet for barely a night and he is already in love with her. He already wants a future with Juliet without even trying to get to know her. This shows how quite irrational Romeo is because he’s quick to judge. How does he
Romeo and Juliet mistake their love for infatuation due to their physical attraction to each other. To begin with, the first time Romeo laid his eyes on Juliet at the Capulet party, he can not help but admire Juliet’s physical attributes and declares his emotion to be love. However, love at first sight is unlikely to occur (Brase). There is a difference between love at first sight and lust at first sight (Brase). Brase’s statement supports that Romeo and Juliet falling in love at first site is unlikely; however, lust at first sight is much more probable. Obviously, Romeo
However, at the party he meets Juliet for the first time, and immediately falls in love with her: “Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” Romeo, who was in love with Rosaline until a moment ago, completely forgets about her and is now all focused on Juliet. But what is very surprising is not the fact that he is in love with his enemy’s daughter, the astonishing thing is the speed at which he falls in love with her. Soon, in fact, he and Juliet kiss each other: “Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.” However, Romeo’s characteristics to love so deeply Juliet is just a symbol of his lacking the capacity of moderation for intense feelings of all kind. Had Romeo stopped himself from being so deeply caught up by Juliet’s beauty, the tragedy would have never happened.
Romeo’s lovesick moping for Rosaline sparks a need for a wild rant within Mercutio. Mercutio taunts and mocks Romeo, for his dream which tells him they should not crash the Capulet’s party. This, in the end, all falls back on the theme of fate. As a result, Mercutio’s rant persuades Romeo to attend the party because after all, dreams are ridiculous and not always truthful. Additionally, Mercutio is suggesting that, like Queen Mab, dreams (specifically Romeo’s) are petty and insignificant. All of this takes place in Act once Scene four. The purpose of this speech is to add comic relief amongst the tragic events, whilst foreshadowing what’s to come. Romeo is constructed as a juvenile character with a dreamy nature, who is romantic and lovesick , in comparison to his best friend, Mercutio, who takes on the role as a comedic, volatile, pessimistic and sharp-witted personality.
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is one of the more compulsive characters in the story. Romeo is compulsive, because he doesn’t think before he does things, and falls in love way to easily. An example would be in the beginning of the Act during scene 1. During this scene Romeo walks on the stage sad and depressed, and Benvolio asks what is wrong. Romeo pours his heart out and says that he’s in love with someone he had just met, Rosaline. “She is too fair, too wise, wisely to fair, to merit bliss by making me despair. She hath for worth to who, and in that vow do I lire alad that live to tell it how.” This example shows that Romeo falls in love with their beauty, instead of getting to know them first. And it also shows him falling in love to easily.
When Romeo first laid his eyes on Juliet, he instantly fell in love and his feelings began to pour out. The description of Juliet by Romeo continues, as he compares her to a beautiful dove and all the other ladies around her to awkward crows. Instantly, every women, including Rosaline, became irrelevant to Romeo. All he desired and all he could focus on at that moment was, Juliet, the woman he knew he was destined to marry. Romeo had been trapped in a deep depression a few hours before he laid his eyes on Juliet, Romeo's feelings drastically change once he sees Juliet which proves to be love at first sight. Romeos early display of affection presents him as a man who is in love with the idea of love, and in turn allows audiences to like for him, just as they imagine he would for them. Although Romeo's character was introduced a few scenes prior, he was depressed and not himself. So, the moment he met Juliet for the first time it was also the moment the audience met the real Romeo for the first time.
Romeo had just loved another girl, Rosaline, only moments before seeing Juliet and deciding that he had loved her instantly. According to the article, “Love at first sight is a phenomenon that 15% of people have reported experiencing it. They described it as a once in a lifetime situation.” It seems impossible that Romeo had experienced this with two girls within a few days. As for Juliet, she is only 13 years old. Many studies have found that children can not love somebody romantically until they have hit puberty. She shows her immaturity towards the beginning of the book, when the nurse is speaking to her and she gets extremely embarrassed. While she does mature throughout the play, her maturity level at when she first met Romeo was no where near where it would have to be to fall inlove.
Romeo is solely captivated with Juliet because of her physical appeal, having never felt this deep of an attraction before he confuses his lust with love. When Romeo first sees Juliet he seeks her out because “[her] Beauty [was] too rich for use”(692) and “that first did prompt [him] to inquire”(701) If Juliet had not been so fair then their
Obsessive love is evident in Romeo’s soliloquy in the ball scene. Obsessive love dominates the scene and is highly recognised as Romeo feels he is inferior towards Juliet . An example of this love is when Romeo states “Beauty too rich for use, for earth to dear”. The use of hyperbole and his poetic romantic tone, exhibits Romeo’s love for Juliet as he describes her as a precious being that is too good. Romeo speaks of Juliet with such passion that it highlights his obsession for her. In addition, the connotation of Juliet being ethereal and precious conveys Romeo’s deep love and affection he has towards Juliet. With this, it allows the responder to understand the infatuation love of Romeo and his profound admiration towards Juliet creating
From the first time Romeo lays his eyes on Juliet, he was entranced by her beauty and falls in love
Mercutio tries to get Romeo's mind on something else. He also describes imagination in a powerful, memorable way in his "Queen Mab" speech (Act 1, scene 4). The speech shows Mercutio's eloquence and it describes dreams as coming from a fairy creature. He is clever man.
