"We never know all the consequences of our acts. They reach into places we can't see. And into the future, where no one can." This quote was from the novel Whirligig. Even though, this quote might sound sophisticated, I think this quote means that our acts can affect you in the present and the future. These acts can lead to consequences that you won't even know about until it happens. It may cause a lot of damage and harm to other people that might not even have meaning to you.
One example, from the novel that helps explain the meaning of this quote was when Brent got drunk and killed Lea Zamora. He was so drunk that he did not even think of what might happen while going home. While he was drunk, he could not control his feelings and emotions, so he decided he wanted to end his life. Without thinking of the consequences, he let his hand off the steering and closed his eyes. A few seconds later, he was admitted into a car accident killing Lea. This example shows that Brent was careless about his actions, which caused him to take the life of an innocent girl. This might not have affected him, but it affected Lea's family.

At first, he thought that the children just learned to build the whirligigs with him for fun, however, he did not know that they wanted to continue to build them. Brent did not know that his simple act of teaching them how to build whirligigs would have such a big impact on their lives. This supports the meaning of the quote because the outcome of Brent's action was a good consequence. It impacted the children in a good
Although his actions affected many others, they especially affected and even changed him. In the beginning, Brent made many short-minded decisions at Chaz’s party. At the party, he drank “scotch and soda, heavy on the former”, plus more hard alcohol, which made him think that there was “no need to them hurt [him] again, [he] has the power to stop the pain” (10, 16). Brent’s careless actions, like drinking, lead him to think about ending his life. Also, while traveling, he met a painter in Maine and started to discuss the accident with her. While discussing Lea’s death, he “felt dizzy… [and] felt empty inside, like a chicken” (128). Talking about the situation made him feel dizzy and sick, so that tells the reader that
This quote had a big influence on me as a reader for the reason that we as individuals may have wounds from our past.
I partially agree with Pangloss’s statement because we never know what the future holds for us and we can never predict our fate therefor what happens to you today (now) or what you have is the best you can get or have in your live. For example, considering
He was no longer self-indulgent. Before his thoughts were “They are the pons... you are the king. You have a king's absolute power over your own life... You have the power to end you own life” (18). He used to be suicidal because he thought he would never be good for society. Now he knows any life is more precious and it's not just something you can play with. Brent was so determined to make it up to Leas mom he couldn't ever think about anything else. On the other hand, “He hadn't thought about girls for a long time and had no desire to meet her” (92). It shows that he has something he cares about and it consumes his life for the good. He only has one thing on his
Eckels travelling through time even after learning the risks is another example that shows that all actions have consequences. Eckels wish to kill a dinosaur was about to come true, as he came millions of years ago to get the perfect hunting experience, but it wasn’t what he hoped for.
The way the world is surrounded by technology, not being able to understand technology is difficult but not “death in life”. Today, almost anything on paper is easily accessed on a laptop or smartphone. However, if you're technologically illiterate, you still have access to everything on paper, you just may have to look harder for it. In the text, Carole says “Now I can read, I can read books, anything. I can write. In English and French.” When I read that quote, I think of Carole's troubles when learning to read on paper, now she has to learn all over again on a laptop. Personally, I find it very hard to read off of a smartboard or laptop and I can only think of the struggles coming Carole's way in the 21st century. Some challenges could be,
I believe that the theme of The Outsiders is that: “Not everybody is like what you think they are”. This is proven to be true because of these next three paragraphs show how.
In the story, “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury a man by the name of Mr. Eckels goes on a safari expedition with a company called Time Safari Inc., sixty-five million years back in time. During this expedition they find a Tyrannosaurus Rex and Eckels becomes nervous and freaks out, after that he seems scared and steps off a path which is strictly forbidden as it can alter the timeline, in doing so he crushes a butterfly and changes what will become the present. Through this story Ray Bradbury is trying to convey the theme of all of your actions, even small ones, can grow and form into much greater consequences and outcomes. We shouldn’t be blind to the consequences of our actions.
Ultimately it is stressed that decisions have impact on the unknown, providing comfort as it implements two principles; that undesirable future events are able to be prevented and fixed and that desirable future events are able to be created. The comforting nature of these time travel principles illustrate that the notion of control alleviates fears as sublime ‘what if?’ scenarios are made possible and attainable.
175) This quote describes the punishment for fortune tellers. In life the fortune tellers foresaw the future.
Brent is attending a new school in Chicago, where he is interested in a girl, and there is a party where she will be. Brent goes to the party, gets drunk and confronts her, but is immediately shut down. Brent, now angry and embarrassed gets into the car (drunk) and drives into another girls car, killing
In the story “Crito” Socrates was in jail awaiting the day when he would have to drink hemlock for the charges he was convicted of. Crito comes one day to try and convince Socrates to escape one more time. Crito has many reason why he thinks Socrates should escape. Socrates listens to what Crito has to say about escaping but, disagrees with him.
Things that I think I would think is the text have me think that if we see the past we can fix the future. Also we can have seen those mistakes and never make them again and watch out for the future. Then when we think of mistakes we made like the great depression or like world war 1 and 2 we can fix it.Lastly the future has things we might come upon that happened in the past and we can look back and see what happened. That is how if we look at our past that it can help out future.
“Teachings about karma explain that our past actions affect us, either positively or negatively, and that our present actions will affect us in the future.” (BBC, 2009)
In every decision making, there is said to be a positive and negative outcome as future consequence(s).
