The year of 1763 was a time where greed was considered to be more transparent than ever in the history of America. Native Americans was in the middle of everything with Europeans fighting for position of control. The Peace of Paris Treaty was everything but peace towards the Native Americans. Different tribes of Indians received similar violence and unjust actions but in diverse ways. Native Americans experienced so much change because of the Treaty of Paris. They lost their land, their dependency was cut off (who they was receiving goods and gifts from), being subject to multiple laws of society (including proclamations and treaties) and tribes turning against each other.

The Indians called the French their “European Father.” Indians gave the analogy of themselves being a son to the French as them being the dad. Soon as the Treaty was passed the French gave up the Indians land without agreement. The outcome of that led to the Indians being wounded by the lack of goods and gifts that they receive. Putting them in a place of struggle for their independency. (Pg.48)
Warned by the prophet Neolin warned the Indians by the vision he had. The vision stated that this land was made for them. The reason why the animals had went away is because of who they had believed in allowed them to depend on the white man. The question was asked, can the Indians live without the white man? The prophet goes on to encourage the Indians to not depend on the trade and connections. Then Pontiac, war chief Ottawa took the message and ran with it. This was the start of a revolt to fight for their freedom. (Pg.71) There was a split between the tribes, some took on the mentality that Pontiac did which was to fight for their freedom. Other tribes became dependent on the British. The Native Americans also had to deal with immigrants trying to take their lands. Some Natives converted to Christianity and as Christians many of them just wanted peace. Majority of the Christian Indians in Pennsylvania lived very successful in the society. The Irish immigrants formed a
In the end of 1763, North America went through a transformation of important events that made American History. The Peace of 1763 brought peace within the colonies and the significant of where it was taken place. It was a struggle for colonial government to govern their empire. Different empires had various leaders throughout the year of 1763 not all will have great leaders. Within the book, Calloway goes in detail of how each colony went through social and economic movements throughout
How did natives view this? French and Indian War, 1754 In 1754 the Seven Years War had started, not so long ago after the Albany plan. It is also known as the French and Indian War and it involved all the major European
This depicts an instance where the new settlers and the Native Americans were not in alliance with one another, rather Native Americans were being taken advantage of by their
On the other hand the British saw this war as a reason to become more harsh on the colonies thinking that they were not capable of keeping themselves safe. With the end of the war in 1763 also came the end of Salutary Neglect, the British with their outstanding debt created by the war need to stricken their control on the colonies. An occurring conflict was between colonists and Native Americans. A more people came from Europe, people started to expand in Native territory. Chief Canassatego from the Onondaga Nation spoke to the “ We must insist on your removing them, as you know they have not right to settle” (Doc B).
Peter Silver’s thesis in Our Savage Neighbors explains that The French and Indian War was the primary cause of the change in social and political standings in the Mid-Atlantic colonies. Silver argues that Europe’s disunity in times of war further influenced the split within the American people and the American natives both culturally and politically. Silver claims that the shift in competitive governmental and economic attitude between the French and the British forced the existing native peoples to become casualties in Europe’s battle for territory. Since the Native American people were not considered a say in their land being taken out from under them, they retaliated from a place of self-defense and fear of their conquerors; consequently,
The Compromise of 1763: How the Compromise of 1763 resolve conflict between Native Americans and settlers
The French treated the Native Americans with respect and as allies. They had traded theirs good and worked together when help was needed. The British was not so kind to the Native Americans causing a dislike for the British. The British did not like that a female was in charge and should not be in control causing more tension between the two groups. The lives of the American Indians were drastically changed after the war. Due to many diseases and their land being taken. They only got what was to spare, not what they had originally established.
When Europeans encountered the Native Americans, the encounter was fraught with difficulties for both sides, for the Native Americans more so than the Europeans. Europeans conquered the Native Americans, forced them into labor, and spread diseases which the Native Americans had no resistance to. In addition to this the Europeans considered themselves superior to the Native Americans. Despite this, the Europeans and Native Americans, both had things the other wanted and so they often engaged in trade with each other. However, the Native Americans thought that, despite not having the luxuries the Europeans had, they were better off than the Europeans. This sentiment is exemplified in “Your People Live Only Upon Cod” by French priest Chrestian LeClerq who was traveling with the Micmac Indians. It is a documented response by an unknown Micmac leader to European, particularly French, claims of superiority. In analyzing this document, we will find that the cultures of the French and the Micmac were vastly different. We will also discover what the Micmac and the French thought of each other.
The American Revolution was far from being the first conflict to occur on the soil of the New World. There were multiple skirmishes, battles, and official wars fought in the territory that resulted in severe bloodshed before the idea of the American Revolution was even conceived. One of the most significant of these wars was the French and Indian War or as it was known in Europe, the Seven Years’ War. At its conclusion in 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed. The English received a substantial amount of new land for the Empire (94). However, with the acquisition of new land and a significant amount of debt from the extensive war efforts, the British government had to reevaluate many of their policies (95-96). After the Treaty of Paris of 1763, the British were confident in their mastery of North America. However by attempting to tighten their control over their American colonies they initiated a series of poorly thought out programs and policies which resulted in a disastrous rebellion.
Here in 1763, life is very messy, compared to the 21st century, for example, Therefore, England had a lot of colonists in America but they wanted more, so they took more land from Native Americans even had war with them, it caused some people became homeless. Second, French also had colonists in America, and they make friends with them, French through traded fur to get money and didn’t consider the results, sometimes they may had war with native Americans about the money. Third, other countries like Spain, also came to America and claimed territory so it must had some problems which will cause the war. This is why I think the situation here in the Iroquois confederation is messy. There are too many people want to get more benefits.
The Treaty of Paris of 1763 marked the end of the French and Indian war. The Consequences of the war was France and its removal as a party from the world. Then the French were expelled to Canada and then they separated to smaller colonies. The war doubled Britain’s national debt, and then the debt was to be lightened by
During the time of 1763-1775, one of the occurrences that happened to affect the colonists’ perception of the British was the French and Indian War. The war itself was not the main reason the colonists’ had trouble with the British, but the time after the war was the actual cause of eventual trouble. During the war, the British fought with France around the Ohio valley for the control of land. The Ohio valley was very important to both of the empires, because of the land value and the strategic location it held in the years to come. Both had their struggles especially with the Native Americans that called this area their home. Most of the Native Americans sided with either the British or the French because they thought that if they had sided with
The whites tried to colonize the Natives land, and they Natives didn’t know how to handle it. They also couldn’t handle all the diseases, and illnesses that the white people brought with them as said in the background “europeans brought with them measles and smallpox, against which natives americans were not immune”. This started to kill the Native Americans, but not all things that the white’s brought over to the new land, weren't so bad. The Native Americans started running out of food, this lead them to start relying on Europeans goods or food and other necessary items as stated in the background “The Cherokees were losing their self-sufficiency and becoming increasingly dependent on European goods”. In Document 5 it says “your mothers, your sisters ask and beg of you not to of our land, We say ours. You are our descendants; take pity on our request.” This quote emphasises how much the cherokee women didn't want the whites colonizing Their land anymore, because they wanted the land passed down to the next generation for them the thrive and live. This later took a turn when the Native americans and the white started to realize that they couldn't live with the whites anymore, The two different races were to different in culture as said in document 4 “Indians cannot flourish in the neighborhood of the white population”. This later became an issue with the whites and later became the Indian Removal
The Native Americans were forced to change their religion, culture, and ways of living to live as a white man. They had no say they either had to accept and if they did not there would be repercussions. According to Dr. Gayle, he states
The French and Indian War, a colonial manifestation of the same forces and tensions that erupted in the European Seven Years' War, was, quite simply, a war about imperialism. The French and the English were competing for land and trading rights in North America; these strivings resulted in a great deal of disputed land, particularly that of the rich Ohio Valley. Each nation saw this territory as vital in its effort to increase its own power and wealth while simultaneously limiting the strength of its rival. Although the war itself therefore stemmed from a fairly simple motivation, its consequences were far- reaching. The English victory in the war decided the colonial fate of North America, and yet at the same time sowed the seeds of the eventual colonial revolution. After the war, the British ended their century-long policy of salutary neglect, attempting to keep the colonials under a more watchful eye. The British also raised taxes in an effort to pay for the war. Both of these postwar policies resulted in massive colonial discontent and added to the budding nationalism that eventually exploded in the Revolutionary War.
