Where We Come From Immigration

Many say that the border wall is a bad idea, but others say it has some benefits. President Trump said in his campaign that he wanted “a great, great wall.” This was to ensure that anyone with no papers doesn’t take the jobs that “Americans” need. Since there are 2 sides of this problem they should both be addressed.

In this CAP, I will address both sides of the argument over the introduction of a wall built on the southern border of the U.S. The U.S borders with Mexico, which spans over 2,000 miles from California to Texas. Issues have arisen with not having a secure border, which includes: illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and other breaches that reduce our overall security. George W. Bush, signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which mandated the construction of almost 700 miles of fences along the Mexican border. In recent news our new president Donald Trump has proposed of building a 30-foot-high wall bordering the United States and Mexico. The purpose of this wall is to keep illegal immigrants from entering therefore keeping our population down. The wall will be 30-feet high and roughly 2,000 miles long. The price of this wall is unknown but it will need a $2.6 billion down payment from Congress. In America our society has become more accepting with African-Americans.

The wall shall not be built because immigrants play an important role in the economy. Nearly five-million jobs depend on immigrants to help the economy. A one thousand wall would certainly keep any Mexican out of the United States. Lots of other totalitarian regimes and democracies have built a wall before including India, Thailand, Israel, South Africa, and the European Union. Immigrants are individuals that move from their country to other ones and this case it was America. To begin with, we should not get rid of immigrants because it would be expensive. According to Donald Trump, we should have a wall on the U.S and Mexico border. The wall's length is a total of 2,000 miles. The wall would cost us $2.8 million (Drew). We would also have to pay $28 billion each year to seal the rest of the country (Hrenchir). It would take $750 million a year to maintain the wall (Drew).

We would be spending hundreds of billions of dollars to learn that we might not even accomplish much. How do we know for sure that if we spend time on building this expensive wall, it will put a stop to illegal immigrants entering the United States? We cannot just assume that just because we build up this wall or fence, those who want to enter the U.S. illegally will shrug their shoulders and turn their backs against the wall. It will lead to other things, such as the expansion of the smuggling act by increasing their business. The cost of 670 miles wall can cost up to $2.4 billion alone. Not only does the wall need to be set up, but there are a few other things that need to be installed. For example, they would need to install cameras, vehicle barriers, lighting, and more in order to catch people that still try to pass. Also, they would have to include maintenance and upkeep. Donald Trump stated in his Presidential Announcement Speech, “..I’ll build them inexpensively.” Building a wall inexpensively is quite difficult to achieve. If achieved, it might not be as beneficial as some believe it . Our United States national debt has skyrocketed. Building this wall will just make it go above and beyond its limits. In the end of 2015, the national debt was estimated to be $21.7 trillion, including federal $18.2 trillion, state $1.15 trillion, and local $1.9 trillion. In the past year, there is over 11.7 millions Mexican immigrants living in the US illegally in 2013, and it will be rising continuously. Not many Americans are in favour in this phenomenon because they have damaged the internal system of the US such as medical, welfare, and economic. As a result, , US government needs to figure how to barrie those undocumented Mexicans. Eventually, the US government decided to build “A Great Wall of Mexican” in between the line of America and Mexico. As I am one of the alien who come to the US from other country, I do not think it is a good move to solve this problem.
