DBQ: Impact of the Crusades
The Crusades were a series of religious that were wars fought between Christians and Muslims over control of the Holy Land. The majority of them took place between 1095 and 1291, but that's only because their was big wars and small fight. Some of the big wars were thing that were fought over such as land or anything they could own/rule. The Holy Land was and still is a place that is very important for the two major monotheistic - Judaism and Christianity. Adding on wars are not a good thing, that's why I think the Crusades were negative.
To begin with, wars were never a good thing so why would anyone think that the crusades were positive. Document 6 states that in the 4th Crusade was a destructive and wasteful event that divided the Christian world. This is important because the Fourth Crusade, like the rest, was a was that cause many lives to be lost. It took place in 1204 and in Jerusalem, it states “...sacked the Christian (Eastern Orthodox) city of Constantinople, capital of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire).”Document 4 states that in the Fourth Crusade, to add on more information, there was so many things that had went wrong and never recovered. This is relevant because the fourth document states “destroying the

This is interesting because the reputation of Aqsa Mosque was good, but over the years of the Crusades had ruin their way of doing things in tradition and had changed the ways they had did thing through time. Document 9 states that the Christians had sacked the Constantinople, which had left the city and in ruins plundering its wealth. This is relevant because in the picture it shows all the fighting and looking at a visual of all of this is horrible so many lives were lost, so I don’t know why anyone one think this was a good thing. The impact of the Crusades should never be considered a good impact on the
The Pope had all of the power and that led to mass amounts of people going to war for the Pope. In document 4 by the Islamic leader, Saladin, he states that his people should try to retake Jerusalem to get back their holy land and to please God. The people are trying to please their gods and to give their homage to their god. That would show a religious view for the Crusades and their brethren. Document 5 by the Jewish chronicler, Solomon bar Samson, shows that there was a religious aspect to the Crusades, mind it be extremism. The crusaders would see a pack of Jews on the way to the Holy Land and they would give the Jews two choices: 1. they could kill them to avenge the death of Jesus Christ or 2. They could incorporate them into their faith and acknowledge the offspring of promiscuity. Document 7, an excerpt from “In Praise of the New Knighthood” by St. Bernard of Clairvaux, tells of the two-fold war that was being fought by the Knights Templar and the Knights Hospitallers. It was a normal killing people war, and it was a spiritual war. You are protected by the armor of faith and an armor of steel. Next, I would have liked a document from Pope Nicholas IV about how the Crusades had to stop. That would have filled in the ending to the story of the Crusades.
DBQ: Impact of the Crusades The crusades was a Holy war between the Christians and the Muslims. It started in Europe and because they wanted to free the Holy Land from Infidels. It sated in the year 1095. I think it is negative because it originally belonged to the Jews.
The crusades were a series of wars that started in the eleventh century and ended in the thirteenth century. In the first crusade the Crusaders (Christians) tried to take back hold of Jerusalem by fighting the Muslims. There is both good and bad that had came from the Crusades. I believe that the crusades caused more bad things then anything and here are some reasons why.
The first crusades are initiated when Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus requests help. The Crusades were holy wars fought between Christians in Europe and Muslims in the Middle East. The question being asked here is Were the results of the crusades more positive or negative. One reason the crusades happened on November 27, 1095, in Clermont, France, Pope Urban II called for a Crusade to help the Byzantines and to free the city of Jerusalem. Document the First Crusade states that The Crusaders first gathered in Constantinople in fall 1096.This is interesting because Document the First Crusade states that The official start date was set for August 15, 1096. Those armies that left before that time are considered
The reason that the Crusades are positive is because of trading, business, trade, and luxury. When the Crusader came back, they introduced luxuries such as spices, silk, and sugar. The trading came when Crusaders opened up
There are many reasons for the crusades to be positive and negative. But the reasons of what the crusades effect was more negative than positive. This is because in the text it states “The crusades failed in their chief goal: the conquest of the holy land. They also left a bitter legacy of religious hatred behind them.” What this means is be the crusades left a negative effect of bitterness and hatred. Another reason in the text for why the crusades were negative is “In Europe, crusaders sometimes turned their fury against Jews, massacring entire communities.” This sentence means that people who took part in the crusades made careless decisions.
The Crusades was a horrific bloody war between the two biggest religions today the Christians and the Muslims . It went from the eleventh century to about the thirteenth century. The crusades still has effects on us today because of religious hatred between Muslims and Christians and the Christians turned on each other. The main question is it negative or positive after all, in my opinion it pretty obvious that it is a negative because they left a culture of religious hate and intolerance, and then set in stone to divide between the Christian churches. After the Crusades, Christians and Muslims were still extremely hostile to each other, and Christians started attacking the Jews, it wasn't fair at all because the Jews never even took joined the Crusades.
Besides having the Crusades being negative based on dying and losing their main objective, another example as to why the Crusades ended so negatively, is that many lands were demolished and robbed. In addition, in document 4 it indicates “ … the crusaders and the Venetians stormed Constantinople,, sacked the city, destroying its magnificent library, and grabbed thousands of relics that were later sold in Europe. From destruction, the Byzantine Empire as a political unit never recovered.” This is pertinent because it is clearly stated that they had destroyed buildings and when things are destroyed it’s rarely a good thing. Another thing that shows negativity is that after the Byzantine Empire was sacked, it never repaired. When something is damaged, it’s really bad for the people who have a relation to it. So when they had destroyed the Byzantine Empire, it must’ve hurt many people to see their city ruined. Furthermore in document B is states “Jerusalem was taken from the north on the morning of July 15, 1099. The population was put to the sword by the Franks, who pillaged the area for a week.
The Crusades were a series of holy wars, they are characterised as taking vowels and granting indulgences to who participated in the crusades. The have fought against many cities, religions. The crusades left the legacy bitter and hatred behind them. It states in the D.B.Q packet “Christians and Muslims they committed appealing atrocities in the name of their religion, moreover turned their fury against the jews massacring the entire communities.” Mostly the Crusades were negative the always fought people, blamed people then they would kill them. They would join the Crusades just to kill people if they didn’t believe in god it was apparently wasn’t true the Pope would say that so they can't take over the city again. Those are the most main
The crusades were a series of wars mainly between the Christians and Muslims over the holy city of Jerusalem. The Crusades lasted some 200 years. The two religions didn’t see eye to eye, the Christians saw the Islamic religion as a threat to Christianity. In the year 1095 Pope Urban II charged a crusade against the muslims in Jerusalem.
As such, the brutal actions and only marginal motivation by religion classify the crusades as a negative time in history because of their negative impact and suffering of many innocent people. By killing thousands of innocent people who did not deserve to die nor needed to during the crusades, the crusaders show themselves as heinous and vicious, not the type of people that they intended to be. And by looting, pillaging, and attempting to expand one's power over a group that, in the first place, asked for the help of the crusaders, the crusades show themselves as not being a war of religion but a war of brutality, a quest for power and a mission to amount as much wealth as one can. This was mostly due to the fact that pope Urban II allowed
The Crusades kept Europe and the Middle East in an uproar from 1095 to 1291. These wars and battles from the Crusades resulted in millions of lives being lost; as well as innumerable finances lost to these countries. These battles also caused enormous amounts of pain, suffering, and personal loss to the people surrounded by these wars. However; there were good and bad things that came out of the
The Crusades were a group of holy wars that were a result of conflict between the Muslims and the Christians from Western Europe. The purpose of the Crusades was to take over the Holy Land (modern day Jerusalem) and to spread their religion. Indeed, it is ironic the Crusades today are considered an icon for churches and symbolize bravery, but in reality the crusades caused the murder of hundreds of men, women, and children throughout their many battles (“Crusades”). The Crusaders were an army of knights sent out by the king to take over the Holy Land from the Muslims. They were ruthless and cared only about achieving their goal and had no thought about who might be harmed in the battles they waged. The Crusaders were ruthless and invaded many villages leaving death and destruction in their wake. The Crusaders were finally defeated by Muslim forces in the ninth crusade (“Headlines in History”). Consequently, the Crusades gave a bad name to the Christian religion. The end of the Crusades slowed the spread of Christianity in Europe. Overall, the Crusades were an infamous act in history that gave Christianity a bad reputation in Medieval
The Crusades were more negative rather beneficial because of the religious hatred that they left behind and that they turned onto jews. Document one states,”...massacring entire communities,” meaning many people died because of the bitter legacy of the hatred of the religious. This is important because religious hatred is a legacy that was left by the crusades when they also failed in their chief
The Crusades were a group of Christians that Pope Urban II started back in 1095. They also had 9 Crusades, or 9 times when they would attack to get the Holy Land, against the Muslims and Jews, but mostly against the Muslims. During those battles there were both positive and negative. Were the results of the Crusades more positive or negative? The Crusades were more negative than positive because they worsen their relationship with the Jews and Muslims, or religious hatred, they destroyed and betrayed their closest ally, and their towns or cities were difficult to handle.
