What Role Should the Government Play in Gun Control?

Gun control is a very big issue in the United States today. Many people don't agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Many people have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns are not very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection. The second amendment states "the right to bear arms" does this grant everyone a right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for a good guy to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea.

In history time and time again it has been proven that Gun control does nothing but increase violent crime and prohibit its people from protecting themselves. China: 20 million dissidents were murdered, Cambodia: 30 million people were murdered, 1939 to 1945: 10 million Jews and other prisoners were murdered at Nazi concentration camps, Soviet Union: 20 million murdered either in slave labor camps or by Stalin’s cronies. Every single nation that has had a genocide of some sort has implemented or used existing Gun control laws to control its people. Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.

There are a lot of people that may say that gun control works, the simple fact is that those people do not know the difference between an assault weapon and an assault rifle. A assault weapon is a term used to describe a weapon that shoots one bullet per pull of the trigger, a assault rifle is a rapid fire, automatic weapon designed for the military use and sometimes confused for an assault weapon. Why would we listen to someone who does not have any knowledge about anything on the topic that they are trying to argue.

Over the years the topic of gun control has turned out to be very polemic causing large debates, especially in the United States. A vast majority of people who are against gun control insist that is their right to own a gun mainly for self defense, while others who are for it, point out that it is not necessary to have access to certain guns like the military-style weapons therefore a ban should take place.

Gun control is an arguable topic that is still continuing to affect people in the United States. Many people debate on whether gun control should be heavily effective in the society or if there should be no gun control at all. It is already writing in the second amendment of the constitution that anyone has a right to bear arms. On the contrary, people are using the firearms improperly and taking other people's lives. There are many consequences of having or owning a gun.

When I grew up and throughout my life I didn’t need to worry about this issue. Only in the last 15 years or so has the issue of gun control come about in this country. The 2nd Amendment protects our right to bear arms, “A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms”.(Volkomer, 2012. Pg. 54). Another reason why I do not want to see gun control implemented is crime will rise, as the only ones that will have guns are the criminals and the government. The honest, upstanding citizens will have no way to protect themselves, and the criminals will take advantage of that fact.

Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American

People should have the right to protect themselves with guns but there should be stricter gun laws about who can purchase guns and specific guns that should not be sold to the public.

Gun Control in America has been argued back and forth for decades past. On one side it is strongly believed that the Second Amendment suggests that individual citizens have a constitutionally protected right to own a gun and protect themselves. These individuals believe that gun control laws do not in fact reduce gun violence. On the other side it is said if Gun Control laws are enacted there would be less gun and school violence. Also, it would be harder for criminals and juveniles to obtain a firearm. Both sides have very valid arguments and historical evidence to back their positions on within this debate.
