The Greek god Cronus, the god of time, age, agriculture, king of the Titans and father of the Olympians, is one of the most powerful and interesting Titans in Greek mythology. Cronus has a very important role in the Greek creation story: the Titans or first gods are his parents. Causing Cronus to, whenever Rhea birthed a child, she gave it to Cronus, and he would eat the whole child in one bite, not bothering to check if the child was a girl or a boy(Simon). Then afterwards he would laugh thinking cleverly to himself, he had outsmarted the prophecy that Uranus and Gaea has prophesied. However, none of the children died because they were gods and goddesses. The same process happened with five of the children, who were Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Heastia, and Hera. Angry at how Rhea could not be a mother because all the children she had were eaten by Cronus in his insanity she asked Gaea what to do. Gaea told her to hide Zeus on the island of Crete, where Gaea, other gods, and mythical creatures would raise him. When it was time for Rhea to give birth to her sixth child, she gave Cronus a rock swelled in cloth. Not even looking, Cronus swallowed the rock whole, allowing Zeus to grow up on the island of Crete. Once Zeus grew up, Rhea helped him dress up in a disguise and gave Cronus a cup with a potion that would make Cronus vomit the children out. Cronus, then with no suspicion, drank the cup and vomited the children up in the reverse order(Lahanas). Because of Cronus's over confidence, he failed to realize that he could not with most of his brothers and sisters win the fight very early and easily. The war was at a stalemate, and if it was not for the ones he originally betrayed, the Olympians may not have won. The ultimate defeat came from, the ones he betrayed originally. He also should not of feared his children, because he self-fulfilled his own demise. Cronus had many achievements, from a long and well-ruled period to six children who ruled long after him. His legacy went down to the last generations of Greek mythology and even Roman gods. Because of Cronus's long rule, many creatures prospered and life was excellent. It forever, leaving a mark on the world of Greek mythology. Although he had faults, he still left the world very different than when he first came to it.
