Good vs. Evil is often seen by many people as the foundation to many conflicts. Many also often assume that one side of a conflict is right and good, and the other wrong and evil. Good and evil go hand in hand. Depending on the environment, good people can get caught up in some very bad things. Good people do bad things because of desperation, religion, and peer pressure.
In the article What Makes Good People Do Bad Things by Melissa Dittmann it briefly explains the Stanford Prison Experiment. Students took the role of being either a guard or prisoner. During the experiment the “guards” began to abuse their power and take advantage of the prisoners. Many of the prisoners had emotional breakdowns. This experiment showed that any human being can quickly submit to evil in the right environment. What pushes good people to their limit to do evil choices? With the right environment even the “holiest” people who got to church every Sunday, pay their tithes, don’t steal, and treat others the way they want to be treated can do evil things.
Being desperate is a cause of making good people commit evil choices. Being desperate can leave you feeling tired and hopeless. Desperation

Your morality will not be present in what you do. Also, religion only has positive effects in one’s life such as making them feel wanted it brings people together, gives them a community for supporting each other, focuses their attention on God. It provides a moral framework, comfort for those in need such as the promise of an afterlife. In the Holy Bible Abraham and the Israelites were promised The Promise Land and so on. According to research, peer pressure can motivate individuals to stay focused and work hard towards achieving their goals. These are all good points, but these are the same things that cause good people to do bad things. Too much of anything isn’t healthy mentally and
For years, many have questioned the so called “evil” that seems to be inside of people. There have been multiple experiments set to find the answers to these questions. Although, the real question is, why do people act the way they do? Rob Reiner, director of the movie A Few Good Men is about Daniel Kaffee, a military lawyer, who is assigned to defend two US Marines accused of murdering Pfc. William Santiago. With the help of Lt. Sam Weinberg and Lt. Cdr. JoAnn Galloway, Kaffe brings the accused Marines, Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson and Pfc. Louden Downey, into court to prove that they are innocent of murder because they were “just following orders” (Reiner). However, why did Dawson and Downey follow the orders, if they knew the result would be hurting another? Maybe it was because of the situation, or how obedient the two Marines were, or many it is just the plain and simple evil at work. Nevertheless, two articles that mention the experiments to test this is “The Stanford Prison Experiment” by Philip Zimbardo and “The Perils of Obedience” by Stanley Milgram. The results gathered from these experiments confirms the belief of hidden wickedness inside human beings. Plus Zimbardo himself made an hypothesis that good people can become evil in the blink of an eye. He based this hypothesis on his prison experiment. Both of these authors addresses how their experiments determine how obedience and the situation can determine the outcome, which just supports

Maybe it was because of the situation, or how obedient the two Marines were, or many it is just the plain and simple evil at work. Various religions define good and evil in various ways. However, one thing is certain. Since our society has existed, good and evil have also been in existence and many religions see them as two sides of the same coin. Some religions see them as counterparts, one of which focuses on promotion of happiness and the other on everything evil or all that is contrary to happiness. Every religion and mythology define them in its own way and they find representation in various forms like demons and angels in Christianity and Devas and Danavas in Hinduism. But the concept of good and evil has always been there and in old times
Many people have their own views on humanity. They can either be that humans are essentially good but can become corrupt or that people are just essentially evil. They have their own opinions, some people can tell their perspective on humans in other fashions. If people are essentially good, they how do they become corrupt? Or if are truly evil, then why do some people seem like they are kind people and they can never do such things? To take both of these into account, a person may saw that people are good but deep down have evil within them. People may ask how does the evil within a person come out, the answer to that is that it is thanks to their environment. The environment around a person can undoubtedly draw out the evil within them
Good and evil have existed since the beginning of mankind. Good defends the righteous, as evil has been bent on destruction. In today’s society, many people believe that good will always triumph over evil. The murderer will eventually be caught by the police; the carjacker will one day meet his doom; the superhero will defeat the evil villain. Simply, in some circumstances, this is not entirely true. Good does not always prevail over evil. This is exceptionally true in the movie No Country for Old Men by the Coen brothers. The dominant theme in the Coen brother’s movie is evil.
Humans should balance and understand the difference between good and evil. Good and evil are the superficial ideas that permeate society in many ways. However, one does not get to do in depth analysis so as to encounter such in lifestyle. As an example, at this point the planet is at the verge of a war. Humans have completely different views and perceptions of the implications such events would bring around the planet. There has always been an unending struggle of deciding between good and evil. As humans, we have a tendency to do not understand or notice a balance between them so as to achieve a positive outcome.
In most of the countries, there will always be two types of people: people with power, which are people that have more hierarchy than others and that will tend to have some type of power so they can make others do what they want in order to please them; and people that will do anything in order to obey the orders of those with power. When someone has some or a lot of power, eventually, they will only care for their power to increase; it is not a matter of culture, religion, ethnicity or any other aspect that some individuals may have. A few examples of this could be whenever someone obeys another person because they are eternally grateful to them, or just because they have some type of respect towards that person, finally it could be just to
What is the true meaning of good and evil. Good is that which is morally right and evil is profoundly immoral and malevolent. Good vs evil is a prominent theme used in literature. Two authors Oscar Wilde and Robert Louis Stevenson explore the theme of good vs evil in their novels The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In the novel both main characters Dorian gray and Dr. Jekyll are overthrown by the evil. Also in both novels you can see how influences, interactions, and beauty ultimately take them down the wrong path.
Good people do bad things. Doing a bad thing does not make someone a monster. For example, if a young boy was raised in the ghetto where he and his family never had enough to eat he might have to steal to get for his family. Even though he has done something illegal and immoral that does not make him a bad person. He was just doing what he had to do to get his family food to eat. Even if he kills someone in the process of sealing the food it does not make him a monster. This kid just made a bad choice in an awful situation but he made the choice for the right reason, to feed his family. Victor Frankenstein’s creation, the “monster”, was not all bad. The made some bad choices because of how he was created and how he was treated by Victor after he was created.
In the end it is you how chooses if you do the evil thing or a good thing., People are generally born good, but there are many factors that can leave a person to act watchful. The way someone is raised has an impact as well as society and human
For human beings to choose to do good, they must also have the choice to harm. Evil is a necessary aspect of creating a world in which human beings have free
How does one characterize good and evil? Throughout time, people have asked this question and only received opinions based on references from
There are different types of people in the world, as they all have different behavior, personality, and culture. Everyone has a different view of what makes good people do bad things. It is amazing how such calm and nice people turn into such a bad people. There must be a psychology reason in order for them to turn like this. There are some factors I would like to know and also discuss of why people behave this way. Therefore, a person with different behavior makes them act different and hence, that impacts on a person’s personality which makes them turn from good person to bad person.
To understand evil we must first understand the concept that good and evil are term or words referring to what one given individuals believes to be the right and wrong thing to do. Good, many times
We grow up imagining who and what we would become in life, but never truly comprehend the day we are graduating college and are about to take on our dreams. I can remember the first time I realized that I wanted to become a Forensic Psychologist and those feelings are still just as strong today. It never gets old seeing the reaction on the faces of people who ask me what I want to do after I graduate, “you want to be a what...” they say. The name can confuse people on exactly what the job entails, but I have never turned down the chance to explain.
