Though many people think William Bradford was just a man who wrote, Of the Plymouth Plantation, he is more than just that. William Bradford was a man full of courage, braveness and conviction. He bravely sailed across one of the most vast oceans, the Atlantic Ocean. He showed conviction in his work in reforming the Church of England. William Bradford was courageous in leading the Separatists as one of the first Plymouth governors. He successfully started the Plymouth colony with the help of the natives. William Bradford grew up under the care of his two uncles after the death of his mother and father. William’s education was limited, due to his continuous sickness. Instead of attending school, he studied the Bible and classical literature at home.
Around the age of twelve, William Bradford was invited to a church service, where he heard Reverend Richard Clyfton speak. William enjoyed going to church and continued to attend.

Once, William Brewster and some of the members of the Separatist group were arrested, because their weekly meetings caught the attention of the Archbishop of York. The Separatist then decided to leave England for the Netherlands because of the persecution they faced. William Bradford was known for being a very smart and courageous man during the times of dealing with The Church of England. He started to express his religious beliefs in his teens and joined a Separatist Church at a young age which was very dangerous during Bradford’s times. Believing in a different religion during these times were confined and brought to trail for not following the rules and religion of the church.
