Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university. I am not going to lie – being an avid gamer drives my fascination in computer science. The sight of fluid graphics on the screen generated by precise and swift computations captivates my eyes. Enthralled, I ponder how it all works. Subsequently, I submerged myself deep in the knowledge behind it. My passion grew further the first time I tried to dual boot my windows laptop with Linux. Tinkering and tweaking my outdated laptop seems to amuse me. Throughout my educational journey, I constantly hone my knowledge in computer science. There is not a day where I did not polish my skills. …show more content…
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? The most significant challenge that I faced is culture difference. Born in Indonesia, continuing education on America and being an international student has not been easy on me. This has been an issue for me when I leave high school early and when to a community college in Seattle. At that time, I was not even 18 years old and having difficulty when communicating with people. This challenge also taught me that sometimes, the process of overcoming a challenge is more valuable than the final result. Culture difference has affected my academic achievement as there is language barrier. For instance, listening to the teacher could be challenging with all the teacher have their unique accent that makes it unclear and with group discussion, students with similar home country will starts to talk to each other using their own language, which discouraging group discussion. It is true that talking with fellow students from the same country is more comfortable, but it’s actually preventing us from improving. To overcome this challenge, I knew that I need to step out of my comfort zone and I started to talk to students other than from my home country. However, it does not mean that I avoid and ignore students from my home country, but not to solely depending on them and hang out with them all the time. In overcoming …show more content…
I went to three different school during elementary through high school and I would have to adapt everytime. I learn the significance difference of perspective despite the relatively close distance of each school. However, despite the relatively close distance, the students were differ from each schools. Each school interact and socialize differently. The fact that it is different, I constantly adjust the way I interact and it has enable me to be socially adjust myself in most social environment. Being in different schools also encourage me to be socially engage, making new friends whenever I moved, which led me to accustomed the habit to be more initiative. Consequently, I tend to reach out to others, rather than being
Claddis Stoner is an eleventh grader who is academically involved in the National Honor society while also being on the Student Activities Council and a dedicated member to her high school’s First Robotics team. She has always had an interest in computers and has been investigating the fields similar to doing what she loves for a little over 7 years. She is tenacious on being a computer scientist and is determined to do whatever it takes to get her there. This includes weathering the years of school to achieve a doctorate
During the summer of my tenth grade year, I interned at Accenture, a consulting firm, where I repaired computers and resolved any software issues. At first I started opening and and exploring parts of retired dell laptops. As I became more proficient, I was able to help clients fix PC issues such as broken screens, replacing RAM, and transferring data from the hard drives to another computer. This internship inspired me to consider the Technology industry as a possible career. Taking into consideration the broad range of possible career paths in technology, I decided to major in Computer Science once I get to college.
When I think of a significant challenge, the thing which stands out in my mind is one of the biggest change in my life which was moving to the United States. I was in 11th grade in Pakistan before I migrated to the U.S. I had to retake that grade. I felt bad to be one year behind, but later I started to participate actively in all my classes, but the change of the type of study was the biggest obstacle in my way to get educated and be successful. There are many differences between the education here and the one in Pakistan. There were a series of challenges I faced after settling into the school like meeting new people and getting along with them. Because I was shy, it was hard for me to get along with others whom I didn’t even know. I knew
My interest in Computer Science started when I joined in Robotics Team during my Sophomore year of high school. As a new member, I presumed a semester of Honors Computer Science would prepare me to contribute to the team. My initial excitement was short-lived, however, as I trudged through program after program - completing well over thirty by the end of the first semester. I sensed something was missing; I didn’t feel completely fulfilled.
I would say that my best challenge so far is deciding what can of career I can get with a business degree. I know that many people can received an associated degreed in business in least then 2 years. I worry that when I get out of college from receiving my master degree would I have to compete with someone that just spent 2 years in college. One of the awards of receiving a business degree is knowing that I can still help people. When I choose to become a teacher, I wanted to be able to change someone life around and make someone happy. Working in the field of business I can help people with their finance or start a business that can change someone perspective of their
The most significant challenge that I have faced in high school is my grandmother passing away. She was an amazing woman who helped to raise me as much as she could. As tragic as it may have been her passing actually helped me grow as a person and a student. It helped give me perspective on what my priorities really are.
The most salient challenge I’ve ever faced was moving from Russia to USA. To me Moscow and Los Angeles seemed not only located on other continents, but in different universes. Leaving my relatives, my friends and my house felt like I was loosing a vital organ. To cope with this challenge, I decided to approach my new life as a scientific experiment. I was like an astronaut exploring an unknown planet. People were really like aliens – so mentally different. You can rarely see a Moscow citizen smiling. Russians take their smile as an innate treasure, which they show, only to people who they care about. It took me about a couple of months to get used to the amiability and polite nature of Americans. The lifestyle distinctions also were hard to
Throughout my academic career, I have faced a few challenges that shaped me into the person I am today. The distinct obstacles that I had to overcome changed my perception of the world and my personality. In first grade, I moved from South Korea to the United States, In korea, I was outgoing and confident. I lived in the countryside where my mother was a nurse practitioner so I always had the best toys and the best resources for my education. This allowed me to excel in school and gain numerous friends. However, my move to America changed all of that. I did not know a word in English and barely knew the alphabet. It was such a bleak contrast to my life in Korea as I was belittled for my lacking English skills and inability to communicate. In
Another challenges that I'm struggling right now is financial issues. This is a struggle for me because I only have a part-time job and i have bills to pay. The hours that I wok are not enough for me to cover my bills. For instance, last month I was charged twice because I skipped and didn't make a car payment due to the lack of money that I had left from the summer vacation. This is a struggle for me because working 20 hours a week will not pay my bills at all. In addition to that, struggling with money also trouble me more when it comes to school because I can't afford to buy textbooks for classes. For example, I dropped my psychology class this semester because I couldn't afford the textbook and the materials. I was short on cash so I decided
I have always been into computers and interested in learning about them, and I have decided to make a career out of it. Up to this point my knowledge of computers is pretty
Over the past eighteen years I have been alive, there have not been any real challenges I have faced in my pursuit of education. I come from a family of immigrants that managed to find themselves a good life, away from the ghetto and the poverty line, through hard work. Both my parents had to move to a place away from everything they knew to learn English as a second language to give their children, myself included, a better chance at life, and I can gladly say their effort was not in vain. If there was one thing I struggled with in pursuit of my education, it would have to be myself.
The most significant challenge that I had to overcome was what was I going to do after high school, was I going to continue my education in a community or a UC school or, was I going to stop there and just begin in the workforce.
When I look at a piece of technology, I always question myself: “How does it work”?” Always wanting to learn how code works, I signed up for my high school’s Java class. At first, understanding Java was like Charlie Brown listening to his teacher speak. However, with time, it became clearer and felt like a challenging game. Although the class continually became more difficult, I thoroughly enjoyed the learning process. Despite knowing that there will be many difficulties to face, I decided to follow my passions and to major in Computer
I will like to give a brief description of the challenges that I had during my education through high school. Will be giving the challenges that I faced freshman year, that was reunited with old friends. Then the next challenge was sophomore year, when moving to another high school. Then the challenges from junior year, which was studying even harder. Then for the finial challenge that I faced, was during this senior year.
The most significant challenge that I've had to face was moving schools and even states. It was some of the biggest and quickest changes I've ever had to deal with and it wasn’t easy especially at ages 8 through 11. I learned to adapt to things faster so I wouldn’t get the feeling of being left behind. This experience definitely changed me as a person making me stronger and independent.
