I had a very significant basketball game I played in a couple months ago. If we would have lost we would have been out of the play offs. The team we were playing against were good, it was a very competitive game. Our team was scoring and then their team was scoring, Then was starting to get physical. I was playing good but in the fourth quarter they started to double team me. When I started throwing turnovers my teammates started to get frustrated with me. These were passes i usually can make in my sleep but the defense was so overpowering there was nothing I could do about it. I then started to pass the ball to my teammates as soon as the double team came, recognizing their pattern and they started hitting shots to keep the score close as
People always say that the team is only as strong as its weakest player. Meaning that I had to help my teammates do the best that they could do. Therefore the weakest player was still a strong player compared to others. I could not have made it all about me because I can not play all nine positions at one time. Something very important about that comes with team work is getting along with the teammates. For a while I did not get along with one of my team members. I am not going to lie all we wanted for each other was to see each other down. Again my coach was not having that on her team. She pulled me aside one day and talked to me and said “The only way that our team is going to get somewhere was if you and you know who get it together.”. In these few words I knew that if i wanted my team to succeed I was going to have to but my feelings about my teammate to the side and focus on the bigger picture. I had to work with the team to put aside our differences and do what was best for my
The NBA is one of the most entertaining sports known to man. The NBA consists of a lot of
We were defending the other team and we did not give them any room to shoot the ball. In other words, defending means we tried to stop them from scoring. However, one of their teammates shot a three-pointer and despite the defense we had, he made it. Our hearts sunk as the tears were trickling down our eyes. We lost all hope and thought we lost, so our coach called a time-out. During the time-out our coach motivated us and told us that with thirty seconds remaining in the clock we were still in the game. Also, he made us realized that we had a lot of time to make the last shot and win the game. We inbounded the ball and with our play in motion I decided to pass the ball to my teammate Wisdom as they expected me to take the final shot. As he shot the ball, everyone held their breaths as the ball traveled towards the rim. He missed. Even though there was eight seconds remaining in the game, the other team started celebrating. However, I did not want to lose. Luckily, I stole the ball from the other team and ran for a lay-up as the time dwindled down to zero. Our devastation and our positive attitude paid off when the game
On Tuesday night, I sat down on the couch in my living room and watched an NBA basketball game on ESPN. My favorite team was facing up against the best team in their division, and I was anxious and curious to see who would win. After a devastating and gruesome four quarters, my team lost 77 to 111. To say the least, it was a very hard game to watch. The players on the Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t buy a shot even if they tried, while the players on the Golden State Warriors effortlessly made nearly every shot they attempted. I wasn’t surprised when the post game statistics revealed that the field goal percentage for my team was 37.3%, while the other team’s was 48.95%. On Wednesday morning, I researched the individual field goal makes and
On the day that i had my first Jr. High basketball game i woke up out of bed and was super excited to play. While i was getting ready i was acting like i was shooting a basketball, when i really wasn't and kept acting like i was dribbling. When i got to school my whole met up at my locker and we all were so pump up and couldn't stop thinking about the game. Throughout the whole day there were times i couldn't even think straight because i was talking and thinking about the game so much. I'm pretty sure i didn't get one problem done that whole day.
As warm ups started I began to feel a weird feeling in my stomach. I had never been affected by the people around but I guess now I was actually scared. After warm ups we huddled up we were given a quick speech, and told us that we did not need to be as physically gifted as they were but we needed to be able to have the heart to overcome the challenge. The game began we started of in a hole. The team was winning 10-4. They were not better than us they just were getting in our heads, and making us make the wrong decisions.I sighed in disbelief when a boy named Ethan on my team accidently shot on the other team 's basket. At halftime it was 23-14 with us losing. We were all looking down in the dumps. Since everyone didn’t look to happy I tried to cheer them up,but that didn’t work.
My team, Clackamas Select, down against a top ranked AAU team, Salem Swish. In basketball terms, it was crunchtime. We needed a 3 pointer, specifically from someone who specialized in shooting. Who would’ve thought that I, once the shy little kid who never tried, would step up to take the final shot? I got the ball, and time slowed down. I took one quick glance into the crowd, and I saw my dad. He was smiling. He knew what was coming next. The intensity of the game was reaching it's climax, with the crowd on their feet and the noise in the gym seemingly getting louder by the second. With 5 seconds left, I storm down the court, eyeing the 3 point line. I ran this simulation in the driveway all the time, yearning for the chance to be in that situation. After that it was just like practice. Garnering the remaining energy left in my body, I shot from the same distance I practiced for the past 4 years, and waited for that sweet, harmonious noise. Swish. I was surrounded by the people and sport I loved as the buzzer went off. I couldn’t be
As I run down the court with the ball the remaining of 24 seconds left on the scoreboard I hear my teammates shouting and running towards the ball. We were down by 3 and my team always depend the shot on me because I usually score at least 15 - 20 points a game. My coach called a time-out so we could run a better play and hopefully come back. We were going into our 2 lose into the season so this game really meant something to us as much as all the other ones also. With that said it was 7 seconds left on the clock and the other team had the ball so we had to play a very tight defense on them so that we can have a chance to come back and win. So we had got the steal and Nyeisha was on for a fast break, as she runs down the court she misses the
For anyone who watched the men's tennis final at the Australian Open (January 29, 2012), there is no doubt that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are extraordinary athletes with stamina and skills that are amazing. The match went 5 hours and 53 seconds and both men were drained physically and emotionally at the end when Djokovic emerged victorious. But is tennis the most difficult sport? The answer is probably not. Some would say boxing or football should be considered the most difficult sports. And when it comes to baseball is hitting a pitched ball with a wooden stick the most difficult? The argument is ongoing about that.
In the upcoming summer of Junior year, I experienced a valuable lesson about life that occurred in a Basketball game. To begin with, the Independence Basketball team had offseason training for the whole summer. During that summer, my teammates and i worked extremely hard to become an unstoppable Junior Varsity team. As the team trained, we were entered to play at Arizona Christian University for almost the whole summer. In short, we have never played at ACU before and were excited to play. As we played teams at ACU, the Independence Jv only lost 2 games in total and entered the ACU tournament. In the tournament, we were playing in the Semifinals against Moon Valley. I remember that day, as a team, we all motivated each other and were focused to
I have participated in my local CYO basketball league ever since the second grade. Sophomore year I was playing the high school league with some friends. We were a very talented team and we made it farther in the playoffs then I have ever been before. We made it to the Philadelphia city finals and are team was on a hot streak because we were coming off of some really good wins. However we got to comfortable and we ended up losing the game by a fair margin. This failure taught me a lot about how you can’t get to comfortable with your performance and you can’t go into anything expecting a certain outcome. The lesson I learned can be used in many other aspects of my life whether it be academic, athletics, or any other type of situation. When you
The only thing that was on my mind all week and on the flight, was me playing with the older girls. Before I knew it, I am lacing up getting ready for show time. I was taking the court against fifteen-year-old players from a great Team Ohio program. I did not start the game. It was pretty early in the game when the coach called my name to sub in. As a matter of fact, it was a dog fight. I was still nervous, but I played my hardest. After a few minutes, I got a steal then scored my first bucket. This is when I realized I was able to play at this level. This dog fight ended up going into overtime. This was the first time I was introduced to this concept “Sudden Death” over time. Before we tipped off the officials came over to us and explained: “The first team to take a lead of two points wins the game.” We win tip and coach called a timeout and draws up a play for me to drive baseline and shoot a floater. The play went exactly as coach designed it. Everything went well except that the floater rimmed out. The opposing team got the rebound and advanced the ball to get a wide-open layup. We
The coaches observed as the players warmed up with high flying dunks and and deep three-point shots. With only a couple minutes left to warm up I quickly laced my sneakers and got shots up. Five minutes into shooting, a loud and deep voice filled the gym, it was the coach screaming for all the players to huddle up at center court. Everyone already dripping with sweat, gathered around the main coach and listened as he explained what he expected from us. Finally, it was time to play ball. The first four games flew by, I had made a couple shots and got a fair amount of playing time, among the deep rotation of players waiting for their chance on the sideline. By the time the fifth scrimmage came around all the players were drenched in sweat and fatigued, including me. However, everyone knew that the last scrimmage is what mattered most. That was where character showed, the question was who still had something to give when everyone else was tired. I was selected in the starting lineup and knew I had to give it my all before I was subbed out. All the coaches were lined up on the sidelines ready to see who had the most heart. The game whistle blew and I ended up with the ball after the jump ball. The first possession we had I crossed my defender and sank a midrange jump shot over him, as all the coaches gazed. After we got back on defense my teammate stripped the
It was a Friday night sitting aside from the gym court as I watched two teams about to face each other. They were both great high schools and both in devision two in the sport of basketball. It was Hope High School (aka: Blue Wave) verses my school, Mount Pleasant High School also know as the Kilties. I alway hated Hope High School for their Blue Wave cockiness. That night in side the loud, hot, and sweaty high school gym, was the night of most intimidation. As the crowd cheered loudly for the Blue Wave Team, I looked up at the points differences on the billboard. Our coordination as a team was not bad, but it was not well enough to go against our other division two competent. The first half of the game us, the Kilties, were playing horrible. The second half of the game us, as the mighty Kilties, knew not to give up because we knew karma has its own fate even in the sport of basketball. It was going to be our second half of the game to score our points up and reach up to the conceited team know as the Blue Wave. We might of won most games but other games had been losses. During my high school year at Mount Pleasant High I played a game I will always remember as a foreign Kilties. Through the loss of this particular game it tough me that jealousy can over come a persons competitive side of them.
My talent is playing basketball because I make some of the shoots when I am focused and put my mind to it. I win most of the time I also practice a lot to get better at shooting and the others moves to make making shots easer and blocking others too. I developed basketball by practicing a lot eating healthy and running in the morning. All theses things help me get fit band better at playing and making shots also at blocking the other team from shooting and learning how to tell how far of a distance I can Shoot from. I like basketball because I like playing against others and beating them also other reason is because I make good shots and being busy to because I don’t like sitting at home doing nothing last but not least i like basketball because
