"Catskin" begins with a rich gentleman who, deeply disappointed in having a daughter, decides to disown her. Years later, in order to escape a forced marriage with an old man, the girl, advised by the hen-wife, claims that, unless he provides four dresses of her choice, she will refuse to marry him. Firstly, she demands a silver dress, then a golden dress, a dress of feathers, and, lastly, a dress made of cat's skin. However, even though the man indulges her requests, the damsel, wearing her cat's skin, runs away with the dresses, until she finds a castle, hides her belongings nearby and asks for shelter. The girl, called Catskin after her everyday dress, becomes a scullion and, because of the constant debasement of a wicked cook, leads a solitary sad life, until, one day, the prince of the castle decides to throw a …show more content…
Catskin, unbeknownst to the inhabitants of the castle, attends the ball in her silver dress, and the prince falls in love with her at first sight. However, when, after the last dance, the prince asks the girl where she lives, she responds enigmatically, and hastily leaves the dance going back to wearing her cat's skin dress. The prince, so enamored of the fair maid of the ball, throws two more balls that the girl attends wearing her other two dresses and, both times, running away after the last dance. Nevertheless, after the third ball, the prince follows Catskin, and realizes who the girl truly is and, eventually, marries her. One day, the girl recounts her story and asks her husband to find her long-lost father. Ultimately, they manage to find the girl's father, who, after the death of his wife, had spent a lonely life wishing to see his daughter one last time. The story ends with the couple and the girl's father merrily returning to the castle and living happily ever
The book tells the story of a kind and beautiful girl named Cinderella. who lives with her evil stepmother and two stepsisters. The stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella keep Cinderella busy all day, forcing her to do various chores such as cooking, cleaning, and sewing. One day a messenger comes to Cinderella’s home with an invitation to the royal ball, where all young ladies are invited to dance with the Prince and hopefully become his bride. Cinderella is ecstatic but her stepmother assigns her chores that keep her busy all day, and leaves for the ball with Anastasia and Drizella. After getting lost in the forest for a couple of nights, she finally gets to the castle but everything is strange. The gates don't open to invite her in, the lights in the garden are dim and the stable would not open. She runs in to the castle and desperately tries to find her Beast. Upon finding him, she realizes that she loves him and the enchantment is broken. Her beast becomes the handsome man, whose portrait she had seen in the gallery. They agree to marry and her whole family is sent for, including the sister's fiancée and a lady neighbor. The new couple descends down the stairs to the awaiting and excited crowd.
They wish to keep their family’s name clean by staging the death of the daughter. The family tells members of the community about her passing and they send the family cabbages and eggs. When the priest was paid off and tells the community that the daughter is dead, they decide to sell the home and move away to leave her behind by herself. During this time, the daughter learns more about herself and really understands who she is. She seeks to be just like the normal girl she used to be and does not like being treated so harshly solely based on her looks.
In "Cinderella';, the ball is held so the prince can get to know the young women of the town, and to see if he will be able to find a suitable wife. In "Ever After';, Danielle's stepmother tells the queen that Danielle has left and she will be getting married to a Swedish man, when really she was locked up for fighting with Marguerite. Henry, the prince gave up on Danielle and his only other choice was Marguerite. The ball is actually held to announce that the prince will be marrying Marguerite.

A while later, the fairies all leave and Ermellina is given the same rule which is not to open the door. The stepmother sends the witch back to the house to take out Ermellina. The witch is now disguised as a tailoress. She pleads for Ermellina to come down because she must be fit for a dress. Ermellina was persuaded yet again to go open the door and try on the dress. Ermellina dies once more when she buttons up the dress. When the fairies find her dead, this time the do not wake her up but instead they put her in a beautiful casket. This casket is described as “covered with diamonds and other precious stones” which is different than the Snow White version which is just a glass coffin for everyone to look through. In The Crystal Casket, Ermellina’s body is taken and put on a horse to run until someone stops it. The king finds the horse and is able to take the casket to his castle. He is mesmerized by Ermellina’s beauty and decides to keep her. One day when the king has to leave, his mother and 2 servants have to watch over her. The court date is almost due and Ree is told that they might lose their house should her father fail to show up. Apparently, the house had been put as part of the release bond. This prompts Ree to set off on a journey into the unknown, to look for her father. She begins from the close family relatives and goes further to distant family relations. She doesn’t find him. At some point, she is told that her father died.
As she began to leave, the prince started after her, with the narrator stating, “he wished to see to whom the beautiful maiden belonged,” assuming that she had no autonomy over her possible future marriage. Even though she literally ran away from him, he continued to pursue her every night until she was out of sight, going so far as to leave a sticky substance on the staircase so that she would not be able to escape the castle. When the prince goes searching for a damsel that fits the shoe she left behind and both stepsisters are unable to fit into it, the prince asks her father if he has any other daughters, to which he responds with “There is still a little stunted kitchen-wench […] but she cannot possibly be the bride,” for some reason showing disdain for his only biological daughter who has been with him the longest, and yet, in the end, it is only the vain step
