What Is The Major Problem Of Findlay

Satisfactory Essays

The major problem with Findlay, Ohio is extensive flooding. It has caused major economic centers for Findlay such as Marathon Petroleum Corporation to question whether or not the city is a safe place to expand. Therefore, the flooding must be controlled and stopped completely if at all possible. The root cause of the problem is the location of the city. It was built in 1812 in a swamp valley, so there is little decline in the river to swiftly carry water away from the city. If there is a substantial amount of rainfall, the slow-moving river becomes overwhelmed and the water begins to spill over the riverbanks. This is exactly what happened in 2007. To solve this problem, a method to quickly move water away from the city must be found.
