Prejudice :- It consists of attitudes (usually negative) toward others based on their gender, religion, race, or membership in a particular group.
Discrimination:- It consists of behavior, usually negative, directed toward others based on their gender, religion, race, or membership in a particular group.
Both are similar as these are negative factors of human nature. Moreover, these are shown towards others based on their gender, religion, race. According to one of the oldest theories known as “realistic conflict theories” prejudice and discrimination increases among the various social groups as they compete for scarce economic resources such as good jobs, land, political power. Both cause differences, and inequalities among the people, hence they divide the society.
Prejudice and Discrimination are different from each other as prejudice is a negative attitude shown towards the others. However, discrimination is a negative behavior or action towards the others. Also, prejudice involves only beliefs and emotions not actions. Furthermore, prejudice is internal as it is shelled within the mind of the individual while, discrimination is external it can be seen by the others through the actions.( Wood, et al, 2016, p. 329).
