Differences between Two Famous Artists’ Artwork
Artwork could be defined as a universal language that can carry ideas and emotions of an artist toward audiences via a particular narrative. Presently, there are many memorable art pieces from various artists. Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso have become prominent from their unique styles of artwork, which conveys a profound feeling through basic elements of art, such as the use of color and a narrative. Although two of them are highly notable for art, there are four differences between Monet’s garden and Picasso’s garden, which are artist’s background information, technique, inspiration and meaning.
The first difference between Monet’s garden and Picasso’s garden is artist’s background information.

Meaning is an explanation that uses to describe an emotion in the scene, which leads the audience to a better interpretation of a narrative in the painting. Monet uses a quick-painted style to portray reality, which, in this case, is a collective joy of intimate friends in a garden (Walton, 2007). In the foreground, there is a graceful woman sitting under the tree and smiling at the sounds of her two friends flirting behind her. A man and a woman seem to share a flirtatious conversation as the woman appears a pink flush on her cheeks while answering the man’s question, covering her face with a bouquet of flowers in her hands, and sneakily looking at the man’s face. Another woman, young and innocent, staying in the background, is delightfully admiring the flower bushes around her with a beaming smile appeared on her lips. She seems to be one of the nature lovers who can solely spend most of her time outdoor amid the flower garden. The feelings of these three people are all freshened up by the delightful talk and the support of natural surrounding around them. On the contrary, Picasso prefers a sharp painting style represented in geometric shapes, such as triangle, rectangle or oval, which may lead audiences to have a profound feeling (“Pablo Picasso,” 2009). Considering the painting named “Seated woman in a garden”, Picasso captures a moment of a woman sitting alone in a spacious garden. Perhaps the woman is waiting for her lover at the appointment; however, as she waits longer she does not seem to see her love, therefore appearing gloomy features. In addition, the nature around her seems to reciprocate her grief by appearing leaves in a dull tone of green color instead of the freshly light green as revealed in the Monet’s garden. Thus, the painting of Monet is more appealing due to the delightful story of lively friends, a pleasant couple, and a nature lover, which many
Through the years art has been regarded as a form of communication, emotion, a feeling or expression of ideas, by which we mean a person or convey something. This idea can be captured in a painting, sculpture or even through writing, which through their expressions disclose the most characteristic form of a culture. By century to century there has been many creative persons like writer, artist, composer who contributed to development in the all creative fields. We also had so many great visual artists who create greatest arts, music and books. Pablo Picasso is one of them, who took modern art at new level. He was one of well-known artist in history .In fact, his vision and distinct creative style, some of the most innovative pieces he introduced to the art world.
Since the beginning of time, artists have labored extensively to find innovative ways to convey sentiment, passion, and feeling. Telling stories and trying to unlock the minds of people through different avenues of artistic labors. Art touches and affects people in unique ways; it can have special or unusual meaning on the person depending on how one views it. Artists’ rendering of their art is interpreted in numerous ways by others who view it unless it is explained by the artist on its meaning giving a clear example of what they are portraying. Two people looking at the same painting, sculpture, portrait, or photo may come to different views on the arts meaning even though they are looking
Art is a particular form of social consciousness and of human activities, an important way for people to perceive, discover and improve life: according to the laws of beauty. It is the creation of tangible or intangible products containing great values of thought-aesthetics, cultural character, and emotions. In this sense, there are numerous types of art. Painting is one of the oldest forms of art on earth. From prehistoric times, artists not only used it to communicate, but they also used painting to entertain the viewers. Painting can be transformed, eliminating the tedium, fatigue, and stress in daily tasks to bring the joy. Fun in life or silence for the soul. In other words, painting is a language that communicates an artist 's ideas
A piece of art is not limited to a painting that captures a representation of imagery. Art is anything that stirs emotions in a person or makes them think, just like Marcel Duchamp accomplished in 1917 with one of his most famous pieces Fountain. Art can be anything that captures and represents the artists emotions, mental state, and personality with every brushstroke, and the usage of colors while also reflecting the mentality, thoughts, and major events that occur in a certain period, such as Picasso’s Guernica. To understand the message that the artist is trying to convey, one must look deeper than what is on the surface of the artwork, which is what I will do with this piece of art, scrutinizing its mysteries as well as its motives.
Picasso was infamous for cheating on his wife with hundreds of young women. This provoke Picasso to paint women in a very explicit and sexual ways. For instance, in Picasso painting “The Race” the women within the painting are shown in an erotic manner. The head are overly shrunken while other part such as the breast are very defined and clear. Another example is “Girl with Toy Boat”. In the picture, there are really no clear faces or subject. The only noticeable thing in the painting are the oversized breast and nipple on these figures. The painting is demonstrated in a way where the only thing Picasso wanted the viewers to focus on were private areas. Picasso didn’t represent his nude painting of women as art like the Greek did but instead as a reminder of his sexual encounters with them. Picasso viewed women as a sensation rather than subjects throughout his
Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet are two highly influential contributors to the art world. Both are renowned artists whose creations are on display in several art museums throughout the world. They are two artistic geniuses who are more alike than they appear to be. While there are many similarities between the lives and art of these two prodigies there are numerous differences as well in their technique/style, subject matter, and personal lives.
Art is all around us. There are many different forms of art. It can be something created, captured, or it can be already existent. Not a single person is to say what makes something art because there is a different definition for everyone. However, there are a couple factors that come into mind whenever someone decides to declare something as art. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting four different pieces of art. I will be discussing each art piece’s form, time period of creation, intention or purpose, and value. These four pieces of art are Michelangelo’s Pieta, Fountain by Marcel Duchamp, Mark Rothko’s No.61, and the “Oyster Dress” by Alexander McQueen. These works of art come in all different shapes and sizes but they are valued
The painting shows five women naked with flat figures, disintegrated planes and faces, inspired by African masks. The compacted space the figures occupy appears to project forward in jagged shards; a fiercely pointed slice of melon in the still life of fruit at the bottom of the composition teeters on an impossibly upturned table top. In this painting, Picasso makes a radical departure from traditional European painting by adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in goodwill of a level two-dimensional picture of a plane.
This gives use a complete different story. Infanta Margarita is not disinterested on what is going on around her, instead she wants to play with the little boy and not be doted on by the servant to her left. In Les Meninas, to the fare right in the back is a Nun and monk, but in Picasso’s painting, these two people are nothing more than two squares with no meaning. There is a man in the fare background at the exit in Les Meninas painting, and he has turned around as if he is unsure about leaving or he is looking back as to be glad to leave. In Picasso’s painting the man in the doorway leaving is a dark mysterious stranger leaving all the
Art History is the study of objects of art in their historical development and stylistic contexts. The history of art, we feel, can sometimes be confused with art criticism. However, Art History is concerned with finding the value of the artistic piece in respect with others in the same category of art or movement, and art criticism is more of an evaluation of art. The art examined best represents the culture during the time period, visions the artist imagined, and history behind an event. It also represents society in a specific area, beliefs the people may have, writing that tells a story, the natural world and environment, conflict between people and areas, and the human body. With these representations, artwork overall represents the life in which we live (d). Each piece has its own genre, design, format and style to it. This makes each piece extremely different, yet pleasing to the eye. They also vary between paintings, sculptures and architecture. These different types also make a variety of artwork to be seen by all people. The art pieces that I chose, Jar, Bottle and Glass by Juan Gris, The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí, and Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, seemed interesting to me and I believe to best represent the context in which they were created, along with the major artistic movements of the time. I went on to research them more thoroughly to better understand the history behind them,
The art piece that I choose to do my visual analysis of is the piece Nympheas by the artist Claude Monet. As soon as I saw the piece I was instantly drawn towards due to the way the artwork was painted. As well as the technique in how the piece was painted, what also drew me to it was how peaceful and soothing a lily pond like that really is, in my mind I viewed myself as though I was really there enjoying a lily pond. This paper will discuss the description of the art piece, an analysis of the elements such as, organic shapes, chiaroscuro, texture, and vertical placement, the principles of design such as, unity, variety, asymmetrical balance, and repetition, and lastly this paper will discuss how the elements and principles contribute the artwork as a whole.
Art has evolved and regenerated itself many times during our human existence. These differences are defined through changes in styles under various theories. During the nineteenth and early twentieth century, a style known as Expressionism became popular. During this movement the artists were trying to use their artwork as a tool of expression toward life. It was mainly dominant in the nonrepresentational arts, such as abstract visual arts and music. It also was probably one of the most difficult movements to understand because the whole point of the piece lay within the artist. Not only was it a movement, it defined the act of art as a whole. From the beginning of time, each work of art, excluding replicas, show a way of expressing
Art is a form of human expression. Art can be seen as the artist sleight of hand on his mood. Art is in various media from posters to public wall of which we call “graffiti”. Art is elusive as the use of colors shapes and the surface used adds a new dimension. Art portrays various ideas, feelings such as triumph, love, happiness, sorrow and boredom in loss to mention a few. Art is beauty and creativity. During man’s evolution art has progressed over in its most primitive state up to its most modernized versions today.
The ‘Weeping Woman’ (Figure 1.) is an example of Picasso’s work during the Cubism movement. It was the last and most complex painting in his series dedicated to the massacre of the Spanish Civil War, a continuation to “Guernica” (Walther, 2000, p. 68). The woman in the painting is weeping, holding her dead child, and her features are that of Picasso’s principal mistress, Dora Maar. Malraux stated that Dora to Picasso was “always a weeping woman…and its important, because women are suffering machines” (1994).
The history of art dates back to ancient times. Artwork can be, and was, found around the world. What makes art interesting is that it can be created in any way, shape or form with any materials. It seems that the artwork can also tell us a lot about the artist. Art seems to be simply, a direct, visual reflection of the artist’s life. Therefore, one can assume that an artist’s life experiences and beliefs directly influence their art. If we look at examples from different periods of art we will be able to see the connection between the artist and the art.
