Although prejudice is unfavorable and I definitely am not endorsing it, I believe everyone holds some degree of prejudice whether it be conscious or unconscious, so in my opinion it is best for the physician to show grace to the patient in this situation and move past such comments. Having taken Christian Spirituality in Health Care I have also learned the profound impact that spirituality of any kind can have on patient outcomes. I am sure both doctors are equally qualified and equipped to care for this patient, but the patient’s own bias my result in him receiving better care from the Baptist physician. Having a common faith background may allow him to be more vulnerable and share more information with the Baptist doctor, and it may open
Diversity means to value and respect the differences and individuality of people. This means to embrace the differences between people and to treat a person’s race, culture, religious beliefs, age, sexual orientation, gender, physical and mental characteristics etc. with respect.

As Mrs. Johnson waits in the doctor’s office, she hopes to finally hear after two years of trying to conceive that she is expecting. A very successful twenty eight year old woman feels enthusiastic about her possibility of being pregnant, after four years of marriage. Dr. Neil enters the room and began to inform her that she has stage three ovarian cancer and he would like to start treatment as soon possible. Mrs. Johnson looks at the doctor and says,”No treatment, I know my faith in God will heal me.” Mrs. Johnson believes that God and her faith will heal her body, because it is a temple that God has made. The beliefs of different religions can lead to unnecessary
The way that anti-discriminatory practice gives a holistic needs is that i am looking at the whole of the both individuals i.e not discriminating against them for any of there personality or any physical part of them (Anon, 2016). In Jessica's case when i am planning her support as a health care professional i require to use dissimilar plans to gather details i.e her abilities , her interests including her needs as well .The way this could be done is for example, asking Jessica if she likes drawing pictures, i.e if she prefer whether doing it in lesson or if she wants to take it home .So, it is could be better if she explain her drawing within images. Therefore, throughout allowing this , i am bearing in mind what is better for her as well
An African American man, and a white man, can be more genetically different than two white man can ever be. The story To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the story expressed the character Scout in her story throughout Alabama where racial profiling shapes society. Atticus, her father, is the man who stands up for these rights in a jury case again an African American named Tom Robinson. Found guilty, because of his race not being what is socially acceptable as capable of being innocent. Prejudice, and the act of negative judgement, leads to discrimination of those judged and the unrightful treatment of them. This prejudice is shown throughout the story, and characters judged by things such as race, social
We live in an imperfect society where people judge each other because we do not live up and meet other people’s expectations. This then leads to erroneous perception towards certain aspects of our life which could results to prejudice. Brown (1995) defined prejudice as negative attitude towards members of ethnic minority groups. This has been a major social issue in ethnically diversed countries like America, Australia and England. Of course, prejudice can take both positive and negative forms. Severson (1943) states that people usually view prejudice as consisting of some bias, stereotyped beliefs and tendency to discriminate against other groups in many forms of behaviours. He also emphasises that to fully understand prejudice, we need to clearly express that standards may change so that some behaviour may be defined as prejudice and at another time as proper and moral behaviour. For example, women smoking in certain groups have no indication of prejudice, but for some group, women smoking is defined as prejudice against women. Also, in our society anti-Semitism is an act of prejudice, but Hitler claimed that he is doing the will of God while opposing to Jews (Severson, 1943). Prejudice are often based on incorrect beliefs about a group
Research into the impact of race/ethnicity on health is an important science because it will reveal why there are certain health disparities between certain races and why certain races always rate their health as being poor. For example, according to Sorkin, "racial/ethnic minorities are more likely to report receipt of lower quality of health care" (Sorkin 390). Furthermore, she also discovered that African Americans and Asian/Pacific Islanders are more likely than any other race to rate their health care on a lower tier than other races. Additionally, her research revealed that African Americans and Hispanics were more likely than other races to report discrimination. Lastly, Sorkin states that in response to discrimination, "patient perceptions of discrimination may play an important, yet variable role in ratings of health care quality across racial/ethnic minority groups" (Sorkin 390).
Prejudice is a paralyzing, disabling social ill. Prejudice is the one human characteristic that retards the development of society, it is a crippling behavior that impedes human advancement and is harmful to society as a whole. Prejudice is more often than not a negative sentiment and in the workplace is particularly harmful; it can lead to extreme mental and emotionally anguish. (Ferguson, "Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination"). It is harmful to productivity, and creates an environment that is hostile and creates breeding ground for harassment. This paper will explore prejudice in the workplace, the harmful effects as well as provide solutions on how to reduce prejudice in a work environment.
Prejudice, it used to be really bad and it still is bad. Prejudice used to be a huge problem because of slavery and racism. Now prejudice is still a problem, but it is mostly because of racism and prejudice towards religion, especially over racial tensions but things are getting better and it has especially gotten better since slavery. Prejudice also used to and is still a big problem because of gender equality. Prejudgment is a big problem that has always been around, and I think it will never really go away. Prejudice will always be a problem but for many different ways, racism, religion, or even gender equality. I think that prejudice is just a thing that will never go away and it will always be a problem, even
The importance of delivering care that is respectful to the patient as an individual should not be undervalued. Rarely however, do health care providers discuss religion or spirituality with respect to their patient’s needs. This was brought to my attention this past week in clinical when I was assigned a patient that was a member of the clergy. I found myself at a loss of what to say to this patient, how to connect like I do with so many of the other patients I have encountered. This brought me to examine my own spiritual values and my own personal relationship with religion, or rather its absence in my life. My mother’s death at a young age prevented me from attending religious instruction as a child and my struggle to cope with her loss
Prejudice has occurred from the beginning of time, as no two people, or groups are the same.
Many people are different and have different cultures and religions and many people can be prejudice. Just because someone acts in a way we aren’t used to, it does not mean we can judge them only because they believe something different than what we are accustomed to. They may be different to due to their religious beliefs, or they might have a different skin color. So treat others they way you want to be treated. We don't know their story or why they are not the are not the same as us,but they could just be trying to adventure, make new friends, or just explore. What if they had one of those bad situations where they just have to move to a safer spot ,because of what's happening where they lived.
I believe that prejudice is not something we are inherently born with. I believe that prejudice is something that we are taught or learn over the course of time. We are all born with a clean slate. We have not been able to judge anything or anyone. Prejudice also goes along with the topic of racism. Our country has a major history with the problem of prejudice and racism. We tried to brain wash the minds of little children into believing that African Americans were bad people. We went as far as to develop organizations like the Ku Klux Klan and did horrible things to innocent people. I believe that this is completely unacceptable and I am ashamed of this. I was raised and taught that everyone, no matter race, sexuality, gender, or religion
