The catholic four common core questions, what is our relationship to God, How does one live a life of meaning and purpose, what is our relationship with the natural world and how can we form a more just society for the common good can be answered differently. However, the great books in the Catholic Intellectual tradition answered these questions in a broad distinctive way. This essay will examine the question, what is our relationship with God, from the view point of three writers, Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton and Pope Paul. What is our relationship with God was a better one answered by these writers. Most Christians refer a relationship with God to praying and communicating with him. As an explanation, many well-meaning Christians will explain that you can develop a personal relationship with God by “seeing Jesus. However, the great books in the Catholic Intellectual tradition such as Dorothy Day, The Long Loneliness, Thomas Merton, The Seven Storey Mountain, etc. have a broader explanation of our relationship with God. They say a relationship with God is being fully human, living a meaningful life and having a relationship with the triune God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The first fundamental claims of the Catholic intellectual tradition tackles and answers this question of what is our relationship with God. It mentions that all human beings exist in a relation to a triune God which is also known as the Trinity. This Trinity is known as one God in three
God the Son is revealed in the Christian Scriptures. God the Spirit is revealed in the Church. The Trinitarian doctrine states that there are three co-eternal, equal persons in God, which is the notion of unity within community. The Trinitarian doctrine was further developed and defined at the councils of Nicaea in 325 CE and Constantinople in 381 CE. God was always trinity, however gradually this reality became known through revelation. Jesus calls God and speaks of the spirit which indicates a plurality in God. The difficulty is reconciling the concept of monotheism with the notion of God existing as three persons. The divine essence is common to all three, however the three persons have attributes or properties which distinguished them eg Fatherhood, sonship and sanctifying power. Once essence means that the actions (creation, redemption, sanctification) are attributable to all. Mutual relations is the concept that the terms Father and Son are not titles but expressions of a relationship and thus all three persons are co-equal
There are three foundational points in this theological approach that provide comprehension for that which seems beyond understanding --- God in one being; God in three persons. First, the main idea is centered on joining with Christ in the continuing ministry that substantiates the
The authors seek to elucidate to the masses the concepts of God’s hope, amazing love and the power that emanates from god 's sake to his children. Through the entire work the writers seek to demonstrate through years of experience how people can be in possession of their thought patterns, enhance their decision-making skills to promote the physical and relational self. The book brings out very hefty discussions on life and the various engagements that people make every day of their lives. The book contains concepts like relationships and their dynamics where the authors assert that relationships ought to include God in them because he exists in them (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015 p.112).
Christianity is a Theism worldview that focuses on the belief in one personal and relational God that created all that exists (Hiles, & Smith, 2015). God created man in his likeness to care for all that has been created, to know and worship God, and to love and obey God (Diffey, 2015). Man is to rule and have dominion over the earth, be fruitful and multiply, filling the earth (Genesis 1:28). Christians rely on the support of the Holy Bible to guide them in the word of God. The Bible consist of four basic acts, the Creation, the Fall of Humanity, Redemption, and Restoration (Diffey, 2015). Christians believe that God sent his only Son to die on the cross for their salvation. In this paper will be a focus on the Christian worldview discussing God, humanity, Jesus,
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible worship, trust, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but complimentary offices in the great work of redemption.
The Trinity consists of God, the Father, Jesus, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit. The Christian faith recognizes there is one God and He is one with His Son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The purpose of this essay is to describe the interrelationship of the three persons of the Trinity. This will include the concepts of the economic trinity, the essential trinity and the social trinity.
Both Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox Church comprehended God to exist in three structures, known as the Trinity. God is three in one, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.
Catholics believe in a transcendent, divine being that is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. God, in the Catholic tradition is expressed through the Eight Aspects of religion as well as in the Nicene Creed which states that God is the ‘Father Almighty’ and ‘Maker of Heaven and Earth.’ Through understanding the Eight Aspects of religion, Catholics are able to identify and formulate ideas about what their God is like. Catholics, over time, have developed a dynamic and living religion which allows them to conclude that God is the Father, is almighty and is the creator of all things. Adherents of Catholicism believe their God to be the Father, a transcendent being with whom they share a spiritual relationship with.
Christianity claims that 2,000 years ago God the son came to the earth to reveal the father to us and then die to save us from our sins. This claim needs to be further elaborated. God the son; Jesus Christ came to earth to remove sin from the lives of people so that he could come into the lives of those who were ready to accept him into their heart and transform them. The relationship with God is based entirely upon the relationship with Jesus.
With given a choice of what to write this paper, I could not get past the subtle nature of who we are as God’s creations. This fundamental truth of our identity is simplified with the truth of our identity in Jesus. We are created in God’s image with a purpose here on earth to display all of God’s greatness, His beauty, and to reveal all of His character aspects. Best of all, we are completely dependent on God. This new enlightenment of my identity in Christ as God’s creation will allow me to help people around the world become one with Christ by revealing the truth of their identity.
1. Based on the course material, how “just” is the world and the relationship that exists between man and god that is envisioned in the different myths you have read? Based on the course material there's a hierarchy in the world where gods are above all human kind due to the fact they created them for the purpose to serve. For instance, in the "Enuma Elish" myth it's widely expressed the gods created the human race. The gods are divided up into two groups younger and older gods. Each group shared the interest of having the human kind worship them and become loyal servants. In this myth, gods are viewed above humans and humans are viewed to be beneath gods. In fact, they're viewed in the lowest form possible and shed in a very good light in relation to the gods. This is the first aspect of where we see hierarchy in the world and unjust world. Another example of this is suggested in this myth when the gods comment on how unjust the humans are to each other. In fact, in this myth, the humans are so unjust and unruly towards each other that the gods contemplate what to do with them. As a result, the humans were flooded by the gods. Also in the Enuma Elish, the relationship that exists between man and god is as I mentioned before man was meant to be a lowly, worshipping servant and the gods were to be high, powerful, mighty, and worshipped with great importance. In several other myths such as the Sumerian version of this one, the concept is similar. Both versions are similar in
Catholics believe there is one God who is also 3 divine people. “In Greek roots, the word Catholic means ‘universal’” (Catholic Answers). Catholicism is all about unity and understanding that God is beyond all. “The Church is the unity of all people who believe in the same faith” (Catholic Online). The Blessed Trinity, also known as the 3 divine people, is the Almighty God, his son our savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. All three are distinguished as all one person or God. Being Catholic is all about devotion.
Explain how it’s possible for human beings to discover God and how we are different from the rest of creation. Additionally, explain how with “knowing” God your relationship with God and others both positively and negatively.” First I would like to point out that I do not believe in God because the Vast majority of the world believes in him too. I believe in God because that was my choice, the rest of the world has no influence on what I believe. Also, I have trouble knowing God therefore i cannot tell if it affects my relationship with God and others for i am different than most catholics. Most of the people I know only believe what they were taught by their parents. I on the other hand I want to challenge things and discover more and question things because I feel the basics aren't
The first text we explore in this step is Bonaventure’s “On Seeing God in his Image”. Bonaventure shows us that through inward reflection we can see God. God can then lead us to God’s two most important laws, and the best ways for us to live in community with others; by loving God, and our neighbors.
"We love because He first loved us." (1John 4:19) I believe and also hope that all dating relations are built upon love and trust. When you start having feelings for someone, some chemical reaction triggers in your body and you start wanting to get closer to that person. You want to know more about them, and also how they feel about you. When both of you have the same feeling, people start to date and do the deeper stuff. But the question is, what really is dating? Is it just going out with the person you like? Or is it just physically touching each other? In my opinion, dating doesn't need a certain definition, as long as the bond of love holds the two of you together, every minute of your relationship could be a date? Dating is also a time to show your loved ones that you care about them and you want to spend time with them even if there are others things you need to do. The purpose of dating is for both individuals to get to know each other more deeply and become more bonded after dates. Not all dates turn out to be peaceful and loving, however, sometimes a fight or two is the method of negotiation between the dating couples. "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry". (Ephesians 4:26) We all get angry at some times, not everyone in every relationship have the same opinions; thus it is alright to get angry at times, however, the bible says "do not sin" while you are angry, and don't let your angry last for another day.
