What is Love? When asked the question “What is Love?” what are some of the first things that come to mind? Some people might say it is an emotion that we experience when we interact with the world around us. People can have love for many things such as money and other material possessions, family and friends, even the world around them. These are just a few examples of how we often use love in our lives. However, love is not only confined to our lives, it is also a very important emotion in religions as well. Before I talk about love in religion I want to give a more in depth explanation of what love is and why it is important from a human perspective. If you were to ask a psychologist what they think love is, they would probably describe it as an emotion or something that we feel when we experience desire or attraction to something. Our brains release chemicals such as dopamine and adrenaline when we experience love. It is a driving force that can cause us to act a certain way, think a certain way, or even believe a certain way. Because of this, it is often regarded as the single most powerful emotion a person can experience. Love is also very important during the development stages of children and teens because it can have many different effects on their personality and lifestyle when they get older. From the beginning we experience love from our parents, after all they did bring you into this world. As we grow older we make friends, and some of those friendships will
Love is a very strong emotion, because it can make people do some crazy stuff that they wouldn't normally do. Throughout your whole life you will feel, see, and give love. Love is important in Mary Shelley’s book, Frankenstein, in the bond between Victor and the grotesque creature he had created. In this relationship though, Victor doesn't give the creature the love it more
“The greatest thing in life is love, and be loved in return” (Eden Ahbez). “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (Cor 13:7). Love also influences all things. It is a powerful force that drives people to do things they would normally not do. In the news, there are several instances of murder in the name of love or robbing a bank because a person needs money for the person they love. There are also everyday instances of moving cross country for the person you love, leaving the person you love just to see them happy, or choosing another career path just to be with your significant other. In the literary works The Epic of Gilgamesh and Medea. Gilgamesh and Medea prove
Love affects what people choose to do weather it is right or wrong. “You’re going to have to make a choose, the girl said carl or us ” (Carver 785). In this example from “Everything Stuck to Him”the boy is faced with his family
Love, it is only a 4 letter word, yet it means so much. What exactly does it mean to love? If it were to be searched in a dictionary or online, there are so many different definitions that will come up, that nobody truly knows what love is. So why exactly do we people say it when we don’t even know what it is or how to describe it? People say it’s something that you just feel and no words can explain the feeling. But why exactly should we feel it? In the beginning love will seem like an amazing thing, but by the end of it all, hurt is all you’re left with. Instead of loving someone, just never love, because towards the end of life everybody will lose someone they love, and not loving just saves people from the devastation of a heart break.
Why is love so important in a person’s life? In society, love is such a vital aspect which most center their lives around. For many it is what creates meaning in their daily lives and what makes us continue to chose to live. People move across the country for love, do outrageous acts that declare their love, and spend their lives dedicating time, energy, and commitment to those they chose to love. “Love is what makes the world go round” because it is such a strong feeling of attachment we feel for our partners, children, and friends. As humans we have strong emotional needs and many make the mistake of ignoring when these needs are not being met.

Have you ever felt the feeling of butterflies in your stomach or heard the phrase “my heart skipped a beat for you”? As children, we grew up learning from our elders and experiencing new beginnings in life. Much of our knowledge has been brought upon by what we see and hear, rather of what we know. Many important decisions we make in our life has to do with what our feelings show us. Love is an important matter in our life because it motivates us in different ways. Love can be shown through emotions or even through actions. What is a valuable definition of love? If I, as a teenager, were to describe love, it would be having a sense of security in someone. When we love someone it usually means we can depend on them and they will be there for us in times of growth, happiness, sadness and loss. In my mind, love also means wanting what is best for someone and encouraging them to be their best self.
Some might see love as an illusion of the mind that was created to coax the human race into reproducing to fill the earth. Others think love is just as fictional as magic and was created to be a fairy tale for children. Love is a scary emotional maze filled with twist and turns and it is the most amazing thing that was ever blessed mankind. It is true that love has always played a huge part in populating the earth since, without it, the human race would not have even been created. Love is the most powerful thing that has lasted for many years and will continue to do so for many more to
It seems to be without question that love is at the core of what every human desires. We seek it from the start of life, before we even know the word or emotion, in the bond of parent and child. We look for it in friendships and family relationships as we grow throughout childhood. When mature, we long for the companionship that a lifelong vow of love and marriage will satisfy. The Bible mentions love hundreds of times and places it high above almost anything else, naming it as the center of our salvation in Christ and our hope of life eternal with Him. It’s almost too simple of a concept that love matters, but as Sue Gerhardt shares throughout her book Why Love Matters: How Affection Shapes a Baby’s Brain, somehow we lose sight of just how important love really is, and the fallout from this neglect can change a person’s life completely.
Love: (noun) an intense feeling of deep affection or (verb) to feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone or, how we defined it in class, an action which sacrifices itself for others. Love can be defined in many different ways. And there are also many different views of love itself. We, humans, attach to and crave the feelings of love and being loved. But as sinful people our view of love and marriage is not always biblically accurate. Whether it’s sex before marraige, marriage of a man and another man, or just getting a divorce because of the loss of feelings, people nowadays have the wrong idea of what a marriage and a loving relationship should be like.
Love is a universal affection that all people have fallen for. According to the World of Meters site, which estimates the world population considering births and deaths, the current world population is well over seven billion people. With that many people in mind, it is crucial to acknowledge that everyone interprets differently based on their backgrounds – cultural, ethnical, and environmental, etc – and how they grew up. Love is truly one humongous umbrella with not a single definition that can fully define what it actually is for all people combined. However, there are some qualities in a love that may overlap among the majority of the people. Love varies due to perspectives. If people grew up in an environment that provides them
Love has many different meanings to different people. For a child, love is what he or she feels for his mommy and daddy. To teenage boy, love is what he should feel for his girlfriend of the moment, only because she says she loves him. But as we get older and "wiser," love becomes more and more confusing. Along with poets and philosophers, people have been trying to answer that age-old question for centuries: What is love?
We all have our own definition of love and there are many words out there to describe love. Love is very important and without it we become
