The United States is the most diverse country on this earth. Diversity is the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, sexual orientation, and etc. When I was growing up I never thought of the word diversity, until I moved to Memphis, TN and saw many different races that just African and Caucasian Americans. We are surrounded by all different types of people with different backgrounds than mines. Although I am middle-aged, I have never traveled outside of the United States nor have I had the privilege to experience a wide diversity of cultures. The 20th century was a period of profound changes in the United States. It was marked by significant demographic shifts, cultural transformations, and social movements that shaped the country into a diverse mosaic. From the influx of immigrants to the civil rights struggles, diversity was a defining characteristic of American society during this time. This essay examines how diversity manifested itself in various forms throughout the 20th century and its impact on the nation. At the beginning of the century, the United States was already a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities.
The United States of America is a perfect example of cultural diversity. Starting with the Mayflower landing in Massachusetts Bay in 1620, to the Great Migration from 1915 to 1930, to the continual immigration into our country today this country has seen its culture grow and reshape itself over the years. The culture of the United States is diverse but understanding and appreciating various cultures does not always exist within today’s classroom or in today’s society. Understanding or even defining cultural diversity , identifying the challenges cultural diversity brings, or how to face cultural diversity are all issues educators face in today’s classroom.
Diversity is common in America today, many people sharing a unique blend of many different collective cultural views on religion, politics, moral and ethical values. Conversely, an unsurpassed rich mixture of religions, races, and cultures, making it a wide-ranging synthesis that is unique to any other part of the world. Still, among the many religious cultures in America (secular, Christian, and other religions) Christianity still has much ground to cover with non-believers. Inasmuch, many religious cultures do not belief that Jesus is the son of God and humanities Redeemer, such as, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons believing that Jesus Christ existed, but he is not the Son of God. Similar, the Roman Empire in the third century, “Christianity
To begin my personal informative essay on diversity in the United States, I would like to point out what information has had the most influence on how I better understand and relate to others different from how I did in the past. I do not feel as though this class taught me any more than I already know about other races and ethnicities, in terms of, how their ancestors came to America, or what hardships particular racial or ethnical groups have grown through in the group’s history in the United States. What I do feel like this class has done for me is, put into prospective of how often and frequent prejudice and
Diversity has been observed in different parts of the world especially the Unites States. Seemingly the country harbors different variations of people. The people are living in the US vary in terms of their cultures, norms, beliefs, behaviors and religions. Such variations make them lead unique lives from one another. The US has different cultural groups such as the Latinos, Blacks, Whites, and other races. Marginalized groups find the challenge of failing to get equal opportunities in life as their counterparts. Education, employment, and
Have you ever stopped to realize how fortunate we are to be alive in such a great country? America is built off an idea of liberty, together we are a diverse group. Our veterans fought for our country to stay free, and we shouldn’t take that for granted. Diversity is giving us an ability to be our own person. The ability to be different as a society and as a group is our gift.
You made some very valid point in your discussion. This country was founded on social and economic diversity in which it does tend to categorize everyone into a certain group to feel a sense of validation of whom they believe they are or should be. European Americans did this categorization as a means to ensure that society will embrace them as the superior race and blacks and Indians as the inferior race. This segregation of humanity was denoted as “high” and “lower” class groups that became interconnected within the social and racial institution. Additionally, these distinctions such as skin color differences in America today are thought to explain perceived differences in intellectual, physical and artistic temperaments and to justify the
Throughout the world social problems such as illiterate, elderly, handicapped, minority groups, and poverty have been the biggest part in our society for many years. Some of our social problems had died off, meanwhile, they’re still many problem that we are still facing as a society. One of the major social problem we face is people being illiterate. "As a Texan, I have known many immigrant's families, mainly from Mexico, and I've seen what they add to our country. They bring to America the values of faith in God, love of family, hard work, and self-reliance; the values that made us a great nation to begin with (Ortiz)". One of our great president, George W. Bush, said these enhancing words and it now concerns me in this day of time. That now the world wants to imprison the Hispanic culture all for varies stereotypes. With President Trump theory of the wall this will cause many more issues not only with Hispanic immigrates but within America itself. Without the construction of the wall, America wouldn’t be wasting money, it will keep generating diversity and wall wouldn’t go against our founding father's rules and regulations.

Intercultural communication can be defined as a situated communication between individuals or groups of different linguistic and cultural origins. Due to the limitless amounts of diversity and intercultural communication across the United States, misunderstandings and clashes between cultures are bound to occur. These clashes have been as extreme to be used to explain violence and crime not only in the United States, but also throughout our entire nation. There are so many ways of defining diversity: ethnicity, culture, religion, and etc. Diversity is easily shown compared to the past but it doesn’t mean we're fully diverse as individuals. Diversity is an important element of the United States of America, but also has been a topic debated over for many years. The arrival of immigrants in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century created many problems with how to deal with new cultures and naturalization of citizens of different races. These immigrants faced much adversity in the process of gaining citizenship due to racial qualifications for naturalization and fitting into separate race categories. Since white was the superior race in the United States, immigrants fought to prove their qualifications to fit into the “white” category in many ways. Throughout these struggles, the idea of race was socially constructed by the Court during important naturalization
“It is time for our parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength “Maya Angelou. Today, diversity has very much diminished. This, however, has not gone unnoticed. America is moving to a new standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more than uniformity and conformity as individuals have began to embrace their unique differences and accept that our differences are what gives us unity in this country.
