It sets people apart from cowards and it is very noticeable. People might see bravery and courage as the same two things, but bravery is only a part of courage. In a situation of fear or danger, a person must have the courageous trait to show courage. Most of the time, courage cannot be faked in the moment. No matter what it is, if someone believes in something that they could get made fun of for, harmed, or pushed away because of it, they should courageously stand up for it. I am a Christian and there have been many times where I wonder if it is worth getting made fun of and being different from the normal agenda. My take on it is that it is worth it because someday, I will get to enter the gates of heaven. The Bible tells us to stand up for what we believe and we will be rewarded. Of course, it would be much easier to be a coward and just not stand up for Christianity, but it is important to me and the Lord helps me to be courageous in situations where I am mocked for it. In a life or death situation, most people would just deny that they are a Christian. I am not sure if I would be able to but that would make me a coward. Thankfully, most people do not have to face situations similar to that but it is just food for

They take risks on things not knowing whether it might or might not work. In order to have courage doesn't mean you have to wrestle a bear or maybe jump off a plane, courage can simply be a person helping an elder cross the street or asking a girl you like, to out on a date with you. Although big things can make you seem like a superhero, the little things can also do the same.

In the literary work, Speaking of Courage, Tim O’Brien highlights the trying struggle of a post-war solider attempting desperately to integrate himself back into American society. Paul Berlin’s trials and tribulations exemplify the “dominance of a citizen culture in the United States,” as mentioned by Dr. Decker in class. Courage is often associated with knights fighting off dragons or superheros defeating villains. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines courage as the ability to do something that you know is difficult or dangerous. While performing heroic acts are both difficult and dangerous, that’s not all there is to courage. It’s more than just doing something that seems hard, but doing something even though you know you are likely going to fail. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem considers Atticus to be courageous when he shoots a mad dog. While this may have been dangerous, Atticus does not consider it to be the definition of courage because, as the best shot in town, he isn’t likely to miss. Atticus uses the examples of Mrs. Dubose, coping with insults, and the trial to teach his children what he thinks true courage is.

On the contrary, some would consider one to be 'brave' if they manage to pull off something reckless and dangerous, or even in doing something life threatening, to self or
