The story of David and Bathsheba is one that has been read a countless number of times by people across the globe. Over the years, it has been interpreted by each individual, and on occasion the reader relates it to a modern issue/experience to which they can relate. At times, even the portrayal of the characters can be further examined and related to modern times. One such examination can be found in an article titled Bathsheba Plotted, Shot, and Painted by J. Cheryl Exum. In this article, Exum scrutinizes the retelling of Bathsheba’s story as well as Bathsheba’s portrayal in film and art. It is noted that the story of Bathsheba and David is inaccurately portrayed; that filmmakers often take lots of liberties with vague biblical wording. The story of what appears to be a rape is turned into a romantic love story by directors who decide to paint David in a kind light. With the idea of being painted in kind light, the article makes clear …show more content…
What really was most interesting about this article was how they implied the idea that ethical commissions, regularly scheduled audits was mentioned specifically, in a way take the place of God. Throughout the entire article, we saw comparisons to David’s lack of ethics and modern leaders lack of ethics, as well as how that led to severe problems, but they only briefly talk of David’s punishment. I think the punishment after David’s ethics breach is something that could really be discussed more. David continues to be a king, and a fairly successful one, but can the same be said for leaders in modern times? I think the article fails in continuing the analogy here. It is stressed that leaders should act ethically, and the dangers of unethical behavior and why progressive steps should be taken to catch it, but moving past ethical violations is something that is just as important as those other
The Wife of Bath ends the tale by praying to Jesus to shorten the men lives who do not give their wives control. The Wife of Bath’s Tale central theme is sovereignty. Sovereignty is what was taken from the maiden in the beginning and it is what was given to the old hag in the end. Even King Arthur gives Queen Guinevere sovereignty over the decision to
The Crusader Bible was first made in France around 1240 for King Louis IX, and eventually made its way through Italy, Persia, Egypt, and Poland where descriptions of the stories were written down in different languages. One of the most popular stories of the Old Testament is found on Folio 41, the story of David and Bathsheba. On this single page the image of King David seeing Bathsheba bathing on the roof, having an affair her, and then sending for her husband are depicted using bold lines and bright colors. David is seen as one of the most important and well-known figures of the Old Testament, so the artist took care to put more detail into him and Bathsheba, the two main characters of this part of the story. In every scene David is clearly recognizable because of the crown on his head and his green and orange robes, which have more detail than other minor
David noticed how his daughter kept scuffing her feet and scowling with exaggerated impatience, while giving him a silent treatment with obvious difficulties, not because she was avoiding to get yet another reprimand from him, but because she was just stubborn and proud like her mother. God, how she reminded him of her so much; same strong piercing forest-green eyes, luminous and full auburn hair, musical singsong voice, not to mention the will as strong as the Excalibur's iron, and the character of an untamed Tarpan
David believes he is doing the right thing, but it turns out that by doing what he did, David only pushes his family to their breaking point, causing them to seek consolation in various different ways, which reveals the themes of deceit and grief while also shaping the
2. Bathsheba in 2 Samuel chapter, 11, was docile and remorseful. Whereas; in 1 Kings Bathsheba, is not necessarily forceful or aggressive. She is more questioning, asking, pleading, and consoling, with a mother’s love and care for her own son’s future (Solomon).

Kingdom of David: The Saga of the Israelites: By the Rivers of Babylon This documentary explains not just the history of the Israelite nation, but of the influence and legacy left behind. It tells of the Israelites lives and struggles of some of their most profound leaders. God’s people faced defeat and exile due to their disobedience and survived by writing the accounts of all the wrongs they had done against God, and the punishments they received. The Bible was not only a milestone for literary history, but became a way of life for the Israelites and a guide back to him. Video listeners are told of the stories of Abraham, father of Israel, and how he led the people away from exile to a land chosen by god.
When studying any piece of literature there are many different methods and techniques that can be used. The Bible, in specific, is often referred to as a source of moral code, hope, and answers to social, ethical, and political questions. However, this incredibly influential book can also be read as if it were any other novel. The events, settings, and characters can all be evaluated for what they are, forgetting the notion that they are from a religious text. This approach is called narrative criticism. When regarding to the Bible in this way, we do not need to know any historical information or focus on seeking a deeper theological meaning. Instead, the stories are evaluated in terms of how
April stated, one must keep in mind the biblical leader is held more accountable and will receive stricter judgment, according to Scripture
As shown, the Bible is an invaluable ethical guide that details the values important to God and necessary for a civilized society. One need only look at Proverbs 11:3 to understand that honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness are prominent characteristics of an ethical business leader. However, this is not the last reference regarding proper ethical behavior. As Scripture further reveals in Leviticus 19:11and 2 Timothy 3:16, an ethical leader is not only one who is fair and just in all dealings, but one who abides by laws, rules and regulations relating to their business activities. Conversely, in the manner that Romans 14:12 commands us to give an account of ourselves to God, so must leaders acknowledges and accept personal accountability for their decisions and mistakes to themselves, their colleagues, their organization, and society. When business leaders commit themselves to the pursuit of excellence, they exalt the Word of God. Most importantly, they validate God’s power to transform not only their own lives, but also those of their staff, clients, and communities in which they
The Hebrew Bible complicates its stance on homosexuality throughout its chapters. The Genesis account of Sodom illustrates how the Bible seemingly opposes homosexuality through its destruction of Sodom. However, the account of David and Jonathan contradicts this notion to suggest a homosexual dimension to their relationship. The text achieves this by mirroring their relationship to heterosexual relationships and by employing clothing imagery. Although the text does not explicitly state this relationship, the text’s language complicates the antihomosexuality in the story of Sodom.
It is only during moral lapses and corporate scandals that interest groups and the broader public ask themselves the fundamental ethical questions, who are the managers of the organization and were they acting with the ethical guidelines. For a long time, the issue of ethics was largely ignored, with organizations focusing on profit maximization. However, this has changed, and much attention is now focused on ethics management by researchers and leaders. The issue of ethics has arisen at a time when public trust on corporate governance is low, and the legitimacy of leadership is being questioned. Leaders are expected to be the source of moral development and ethical guidance to their employees.
At first glance, we can see that the artwork is representational. The subject matter is a group of people gathering in the center of the work. The first figure that the painter emphasizes is the naked woman, Bathsheba. Our eyes are drawn to her by the highlight of her body and also because of the largest scale that she has in this painting. Bathsheba was surrounded by six young female servants, which makes her become the focal point. From the left to the right, there are two girls washing her feet, one girl kissing her hand, one combing her hair, and two other girls holding a box of jewelry. These maidservants are taking care of Bathsheba like she is the finest, most precious thing in their life. By that, we can feel a sense of noble and royalty emanating from her. Moreover, it is not wrong to say that the artist was very biased when describing her beauty. De Troy depicted her face with perfection and a little bit of softness, which makes her very compelling and seductive. He also intended to highlight the curvy body of Bathsheba, creating a luminous and alluring nudity. Her posture lying on the chair shows that she is very comfortable and calm. All of these components seem to make us think of the god of
King David was a king and while in his home saw and watched one of his warriors’ wives by the name of Bathsheba taking a bath. She was so beautiful to David that he demanded her to sleep with him while her husband was fighting in a battle. By Bathsheba being a woman, she was not able to say no so she had to go with David and ended up becoming pregnant with David’s son.
The opportunity to evaluate original research serves as one of the many foundations to both scholarly writing and research (Grand Canyon University, 2013). Therefore, to enhance this process I will critique empirical research articles for the purpose of demonstrating the effectiveness in understanding leadership ethics. So, using the literature presented within in the works of “Predictors of Ethical Code Use and Ethical Tolerance in the Public Sector” by Neal Ashkanasy, Sarah Falkus, and Victor Callan along with “Advancing Ethics in Public
