At the beginning of this class, leadership was something I hoped to enhance throughout the duration of this course and in the next few years. Through the course, I have learned more about myself and the type of leader I am through the relational leadership model. Learning about the strengths I have as an individual, the leadership skills and styles, working with other people through communication and listening. I have learned relevant concepts that served as the foundation to leadership philosophy. Leadership has a lot to do with relationships. One thing that has stood out to me is that they see the definition of leadership as a relational and ethical process of people together, attempting to accomplish positive change (Anderson&Bolt, 18).

2017 Women in Leadership Conference has opened my eyes and my heart to a wonderful world of opportunities. These successful and inspirational speakers; Dr. Wendy Murphy and Bentina Terry, along with the list of phenomenal of panelist really stood out with ear piercing words like be myself and be confident in what I know. Having mentors would be one key to my success that I learned and can begin today. Mentors provide support, motivation, understanding, and guidance. The one last thing to drive it home was Bentina Terry outstanding and unforgettable lecture. One practice at Governor State that reflects the current philosophy is the leadership development initiatives through the Student Leadership Institute. This program is unique an address the “whole person” as defined by (Keeling, R. 2004) in that it is a distinctive co-curricular certificate program. It is designed for students that desire to attain greater levels of leadership and personal development.

It was Thursday, August 25, at eight in the morning when I walked into my second leadership class ever. The first class was just reviewing the syllabus so to me this was the real “first class”. We discussed The Leader’s Companion by Gardner and how there is currently a cry for leadership. I heard that there was a need for leaders at all levels and that can be achieved by studying leadership. After hearing that I understood there was a problem, I wanted to be the adequate leader the world needed and I first needed to gain a good understand the information learned in class. Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about myself, group interactions, and my leadership identity, which all come together to enhance my understanding and appreciation of leadership itself.

Imagine a young seventh grade student sitting in front of a massive room full of unfamiliar faces. Today her hair looks much nicer than usual, and she is wearing clothing with price tags that are freshly removed. Her breathing becomes uneasy and her hands shake. A deep breath escapes her shallow chest, she folds her hands delicately in her lap, and the questions begin. That was me. The interviews for Leadership Academy seemed daunting; I just wanted to become one of the fortunate students that would get the opportunity to excel for one week over the summer. At the conclusion of the interview process, I longed to see my name on the list hanging in the hall. Finally, at the bottom of the list, there sat my name. However, I never knew the impact Leadership Academy would have on my life. Now, as a senior in high school, I truly understand the positive impression attending Leadership Academy left on me. Personally, two examples bring me pride when referring to my skills as a leader.

In order for a problem solver to answer questions in a home location and overseas location is going to cause for both locations to operate at the same level. The authors Collinson & Tourish (2015) stated that leader-centered teaching influenced by such heroic perspectives focuses on identifying those traits, behaviors, and competencies that are most correlated with effectiveness. The authors Collinson & Tourish made a very excellent argument about leader-centered teaching influencing how the organization is going to run. In order for an organization to both have the same decision making ideas. Both of the leadership is going to need to be influence on the same criteria for their team. I believe an excellent method for having both leader make the same decision is by having one decision making personal to keep both organizations on the same page. This method will allow for fewer confessions and allow the team to grow. This method is going to have so loop holes; however, I believe this is going to the best operation tool. By having one individual make the decision will allow for the leaders to lead their team. I believe the leaders will have a non-programmed answer for their team but need a programmed answer for the individual that is charged for product.

Over the course of my involvement in community college, I wanted to put myself outside the box and try something new. This was how I became involved in my favorite collegiate national organizations: Postsecondary Ag Students (PAS) and Phi Theta Kappa. These organizations reflect leadership in both an academic classroom and in a career setting. For example, within PAS I have competed in the career planning competition. This is meant to interview individuals in my desired career field to identify my strengths and weaknesses in that area. This particular activity helps me to have a better understanding of the concepts in the classroom as they’re related to my future endeavors.
