The article "Sherif's Office Had Received About 20 Calls Regarding Suspect: The Latest on the Florida School Shooting," by Lisa Marie Segarra, Katie Reilly, Eli Meixler, and Jennifer Calfas is about the recent school shooting in Florida. This shooting took place on February 14, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The suspect, Nikolas Cruz was a former student at the high school. Cruz blended in with the students as he entered the school with an AR-15 assault rifle. He murdered 17 students and injured many more, the rifle he used was similar to the gun used in the Las Vegas shooting and is a common military weapon. A teenage girl was shot last weekend near her friend’s Windsor Park home. The girl, grade-eleven student Calli Vanderaa, had been with her best friend Kailey Compton and five other friends when the shooting occurred. They had been driving to a nearby Mac’s convenience store when two men on bikes flashed gang symbols at them. Now all out of the car, Kailey was the one who first noticed one of them had a gun, and quickly warned the others. Calli was the first one to get back to the car, and she climbed into the front passenger seat for safety. According to Kailey, the young man with the gun then fired point blank through the window Calli was sitting behind. Once news had gotten out after minutes of the mass shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary the people of Newtown and media from all over the states rushed to the scene. Serval type’s video and live broadcasting were shown of the aftermath of shooting. According to a website called Daily News released November 26, 2013 by Edgar Sandoval titled ‘Inside Adam Lanza's lair Newtown shooter plotted own death “All of the 5.56 mm shell casings recovered at Sandy Hook Elementary school were found to have been fired from this Bushmaster semiautomatic rifle, which was found on the floor of Room 10 after the shooting spree.” The website also mention the rifle was found next to his body of Adam Lanza and the pistol. Eventually they recognized who the shooters were as they started going through the school, and making sure that kids were okay, and matching kids. The current event Florida shooting caught my attention and eyes. On February 14, 2018 a shooting took place in Florida Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school. It was known as mass shooting seventeen students was victims in this incident and fifteen were admitted in the hospital still in critical conditions. According to the article, “Florida School Shooting: Suspect, Death Toll”, it stated Nikalas Cruz, 19 years old is responsible for the shooting. Nikalas Cruz, accept his crime and in his statement Cruz told police officer he was carrying extra guns in his backpack and he did shooting in the school hallways and school ground to target students (Segarra, L. M., 2018).

Sometime back in 2012, there was a reported tragedy that struck the elementary school at sandy hook, Connecticut. It is alleged that a man dressed in black walked into the school compound and opened fire disrupting the serene environment of the school. In the incident, after a few minutes, 26 people lay dead, 20 of them being young children aged between 6 to7 years. Among the grownups that perished were the school principal Dawn Hoch Sprung, and the school’s psychologist Mary Sherlock (Parmet, 2013). The killer identified as Adam Lanza a 20-year-old man also died. Found separately was his mother’s body, at a residence in town. It was compared to another incidence that had occurred in 2007, a similar event of shooting at Virginia where 32 people perished. Adam Lanza, without a doubt, is/was a sick and evil human being that preyed on young, helpless children. Their school was a gun free zone and those teachers and young students were defenseless. On December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, twenty-year-old Adam Lanza (just barely out of his teens) shot and killed six adults and twenty children at Sandy Hook Elementary School after murdering his own mother at home. He then turned the gun on himself bringing the morning’s fatalities to twenty-eight. As horrible as this crime was, it is only one in a growing number of similar shootings in other schools across our country. Two of the worst examples occurred in the late 90’s. Eighteen years ago on April 20, 1999, two students identified as Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold besieged Columbine High School in Colorado. Infamously known now as the Columbine Massacre, it was, at the time, “ the worst school shooting in U.S. history” (Obmascik, 1999, para. 1) with 15 causalities including the perpetrators themselves. Despite occurring in a small town in Colorado, the event shook the entire country. The shooting became a national ordeal as America watched "the murders being broadcast[ed] locally and nationally on live television" (Obmascik, 1999, para. 12). Moreover, as news outlets continuously published reports on the massacre, information unraveled and a story developed in real time.

The gunman, was 20-year-old Adam Lana, who first shot and killed his mother at their Newtown home. He then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School where he fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staff members. As first responders arrived, Lana committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The shooting began at approximately 9:30 a.m. Sandy Hook was the deadliest mass shooting at a high school or grade school in U.S. history and the second-deadliest mass shooting by a single person in U.S. history, after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre. This shooting yet again assured the nation that gun violence is still as big of a problem as it was back in the late 90’s when 27 teenagers got killed in another mass killing in Columbine, Colorado. We as a nation must stand up and oppose mass murdering because these actions are not only unjust but inhuman as well.  The increase in gun violence can be decreased by, identifying the regions in the country where the most gun violence occurs and restricting their access to limiting or monitoring the availability of guns and ammunition.

The afterlife is supposed to be a mystery, or is it? while analyzing two very different afterlife experiences in Heaven is for Real and I Have Lived Before. Both stories paint a picture of the afterlife for two individuals, one being a four-year-old boy; Colton Burpo. The other being Shanti Devi, also a four-year-old. Colton takes a life changing journey to heaven and receives tremendous support from his Christian family to share his story. Shanti is a young girl who was a follower of the Hundi religion in her past life, and was then brutally questioned by her family and other around her ultimately ending in an investigation to determine if she was being truthful. It is Clear to see the two stories are incredibly different, however could they both be true or false?
