Abstract
This paper will be discussing what I have learned throughout my five years in college. Throughout this paper I will be going through my various college experiences, starting from my first year at Mercyhurst University, onto my next two years at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, and finally, and my final years at Clarion University. With each of these experiences, I will be describing the assignments I completed in these schools, as well as the skills and lessons I have learned. I will apply various readings to these learnings and describe how I personally benefited from each of these experiences.
What I Have Achieved in College One doesn’t truly think much of their college career as they travel throughout
One of my most cherished thoughts is that all goals are in grasp if you can work hard enought and long enought you can achieve them. I also believe with dedication any person can reach what they dreamed about.
Ever since I was young, I was exposed to a Historically Black College or University, Jackson State University. I had always went to activities and functions such as football games, summer programs, and other special events. I did not know whether I would attend a historically Black College or University (HBCU) or not at the time. I had finally decided to go to a HBCU, and I would attend Tougaloo College in the fall to further my education. I have many goals and objectives for pursing my educational experience at a historically Black College, and I plan to achieve them.
College is an exciting time with plenty of challenges and difficulties. The ones who can overcome these challenges and difficulties will be the ones who get the most out of college and their degree. In my paper I will talk about what a degree means to me personally and professionally. I will also talk about different things I struggle with so far in college and different ways I can improve these difficulties, as well as how I feel about the CSI report that we took and how I believe it compares to me personally.
A College education would mean a thousand words to me. Having a college education not only, in the long run, earns me more money, it gives me something to say I accomplished in my life. When you are filling out a job application and you put that you graduated college with some kind of degree or certification that will stand out to them. I want to go into the field of Law Enforcement, And be a Florida state trooper.
I have a numerous amount of achievements through High School, Community College and now at A&M. I was an Early College High School student in Dallas County at Cedar Hill Collegiate High School. That experience helped me to earn my Associates Degree before I even got my High School diploma. While in High School I was named to the President's Honor Roll list 4 times at my Community College. I am currently awarded the Greater Texas Foundation Scholarship at A&M for my test score of 33 on the ACT as well as my Early College High School background. Thanks to being exposed to college level work at a young age, this past spring I was awarded the Dean's Honor Award for achieving a GPA of 4.0. The experience with Greater Texas Foundation has opened
Frankly, I may not be the smartest, the greatest, or even near perfect student. I do not have straight A’s, a 1600 SAT score, or amazing GPA. Although these accomplishments are impressive, every person has their own academic abilities. What I do know is that I’ve taken 6 AP classes, 3 honors classes, ran cross country, track, and have danced for 3 years. Also, for about 2 years I have worked as a dishwasher and then secretary for my aunt and uncle’s business where I have learned about paying bills, managing checking accounts, and the importance of work. I have maintained in the top 10th percentile of my school, a high GPA, and have worked as a secretary for a local business during vacations. I have used the resources provided for me and taken
This semester has flew by a lot faster than I anticipated. The akron experience has taught me quite a bit that has helped me in many different areas. Being successful in college to me means to organize and manage all the parts of your life so that you are content. College is alot to keep track of and managing this and the rest of your life is the main thing that will keep you going so you are able to take breaks. Without breaks you will get burned out and I learned this pretty fast. I would say I was successful this semester even if my grades weren't exactly where I wanted them I am getting the feel for the whole experience.
A little over three months ago, I, along with thousands of other freshmen, embarked on a scary, yet exciting new chapter in our lives. Most of us, myself included, thought that we were well prepared for our first classes as college students. If I were asked what I had learned during college, I would have a hard time stating anything other than useless facts related to my classes. My commonplace book includes posts from throughout the semester that express my progression as both a student and a person.
7 Catholic Social Principles The seven basic principles of Catholic social teaching can give us many insights into the social issues that America is grappling with today. Although only 20% of the United States identifies as Catholic, everyone can learn from Catholic social teaching. Education, health care reform, gender equality, obesity, climate change, immigration, and unemployment are at the forefront of social issues in America, and all can be addressed by Catholic social teaching. Catholic social teaching can be an excellent tool to address the many problems we have today.
Starting from the Renaissance era, where man struggled with the power of God, the Romantic era, when self-expression flourished, and the twentieth century, which saw the onset of modernism, Western literature has saw a significant evolution. Three works, Paradise Lost, an epic poem that shows the struggle for man to grasp the concept of God, Leaves of Grass, a set of poems that celebrate the author’s sense of life through self-expression, and Metamorphosis, which illustrates the life of a man who let modern life demean him, illustrate through different styles how they reflect their times. Their authors, John Milton, Walt Whitman and Franz Kafka, were able to show how in these different stories through the content, their choice of language and style of writing, how they helped evolved Western Literature.
Society is constantly being exposed to loads of information through advertisements, but not many people stop to think of the effects of such exposure. Consumer’s lack of regard for the information thrown at them is a gateway for shady corporations to poison innocent minds. Society has an unknown poison- advertisement. Massive corporations get away with influencing the minds of unsuspecting masses by merely stating that advertisements from their company simply inform the public. Advertising can have both positive and negative effects on society, such as providing information to the general public or controlling consumers, but the most important effect is it promotes democracy’s basic principle; any individual or institution has the right to
My greatest accomplishment thus far, has been getting high grades in college. Accomplishing this required: patience, dedication, tenacity, stamina, and confidence. It took patience because there were long hours that were dedicated to homework and studying. It took dedication because I had to continually tell myself that it would be worth it, even when it was difficult. It took tenacity because I knew that I couldn't accept anything less than my best. It took stamina because there were a lot of late nights and just a lot of time in general to complete everything that was required of me. Lastly, it took confidence because if I didn't believe that I could, it would have made it a million times harder.
My ideals when I entered college vary greatly from the time I graduated three short years later. As a senior at Eden High School, I was one of the few Caucasian students in a small class of only fifteen students. Majority of my classmates were Hispanic, and so was majority of the remaining student population. Growing up with little to no diversity caused me to adopt more of the Hispanic cultures and beliefs. For example, I never wished for an extravagant sweet sixteen party, but instead dreamed of the perfect quinceanera. Due to the size of the school, the opportunity to participate and be involved in anything, if not everything, was the norm. I often found my days packed full of various extra-curricular activities ranging from sports to FCCLA to FFA. My schedule taught me to be disciplined, organized, and very aware of the ticking clock in the background. The down sides included when I developed insomnia, sleeping only three to four hours a night; most likely due to being overwhelmed and constantly stressed out. As I progressed through high school, my Christian faith held strong. I often attended multiple church sponsored activities outside of the regular Sunday service. My faith was one of the most important factors in my life. I held strong onto these beliefs, for they were some of the only consistent factors in my ever evolving schedule.
College is exciting, but also extremely nerve racking as well. All the decision makes life stressful, with that I am going to state my personal mission, assess myself and finally make some goals. In the long run I hope to lower the stress levels by making a plan.
As a Business Management major I have learned to appreciate the essence of a well-rounded curriculum to help fine tune and perfect a blooming business mind. I began college unsure of what path to follow. I walked through the doors of Francis Marion University, my first college, with little expectations and countless queries as to what my first year of college would hold. The first year was more of an eye-opener than a truly enlightening experience. I slowly began to understand that college was much more serious than my previous time spent in high school. The papers were longer, the material was more complex and the professors were more demanding. My time spent at Francis Marion was short, but my writing at the time would set a benchmark for me to judge where I am today. I moved back to Sumter, my hometown, to attend USC Sumter after a semester at Francis Marion. I attribute my time at this university to helping me choose business as my ultimate profession. I took English 102 with Dr. Mary Ellen Bellanca during my first semester. Her class helped ground me with a basic knowledge of fundamental English skills and to have a better grasp on how to research sources and connect them to the thesis and main ideas of my papers. I chose to include a submission from her class to demonstrate my ability to use research to form a very clear and well-written research paper. I also met the most influential teacher of my college career in a Creative Writing class. His name was Dr. Ray
