What I Do For America Essay

With all the controversy in what it means to be American at this point in history, coming to a consensus on the meaning of the term is crucial. The meaning of being an American can often be tied to one’s emotional connection to the United States of America. If this attachment is taken away from the definition of the word, the most authentic and traditional interpretation of what it means to be an American is revealed. To be an American means to be a citizen of the United States and to align yourself with the ideals of America.

What does being an american mean to me? Being an american means that I have freedom to do things that I want,liberty,and the pursuit of happiness which the military fights for. Another thing I have is rights that means that I have choices to pick things that I want to do in life like pick a job or do whatever because of the military fighting for are country. I also have justice which means that things are fair and you have a fair trial if I go to court and can not just go to jail.

Since the United States of America was officially founded in 1776, American citizens have considered this country a free land that holds its arms invitingly open to everyone. Emma Lazarus depicts this ideal in her poem “The New Colossus” by describing America as a “golden door,” and a sanctuary for the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” However, America’s past has not always represented these ideals. Some historical examples of failure to reach these aspirations include the enslavement of Africans and the holding of Japanese-Americans in prison camps during WWII, which correspond to poems by Langston Hughes and Dwight Okita. What does America Means to Me? It means representative, freedom, equality. Many people, died, to accomplish the goal to have a representative government, to have a nation of freedom, of equality. The goal may not be accomplished, but many people is working towards it together, to make this country a nation of freedom, of equality, and let everyone to have representative in the government.

What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. What does being an American mean to me? Being American to me, means that you have the right to freedom of speech because some brave American soldiers risked or are now still risking their lives, maybe still in the future we will have more people stepping their game up, then they will be one of the brave Soldiers fighting for our country. Being American means to me? Being able to talk about whatever we wanna talk about, knowing that whatever we say, we know that it is a safe place, and that we won’t get shot and prosecuted if reasonable. My Responsibility to America There are approximately 3.25 million citizens in America, and I am one of them. Each individual person has different responsibilities to conduct including me. Some of my responsibilities to America include honoring the American flag, respecting every single one of my veterans, and continuing all of the American traditions that have been in place for decades. The first and one of the most important of my responsibilities is honoring the flag.

As a citizen, I feel that my responsibility to America is to carry out all obligations to my government and to live in union with one another pledged to our nation by our three given values: freedom, liberty, and equality. Fortunately, our county does every possible thing they can to make sure that it’s people are protected. Because we are protected entirely, we must make it essential to implement any requirement of the government, such as paying taxes, respect and obey all laws, and serving in the army. When achieving these requirements, you are portraying your commandment to not only your country but your government as well. To me being an American means getting to live my life freely. I get to grow up and go to school, I get to follow whatever religion I want to, I get to work in whatever job I want to, and I get to vote for who I think deserves to be the president of our country however I want to. Being an American means that we are all free to express our opinions on anything. So many people come to the United States of America so that they can be able to say that they are living the “American Dream.” The American Dream is defined as; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.

America is a wonderful place to live, because we are free. Freedom is important, and many people in other countries do not have much freedom. I am glad I have a place like this to grow up in; where I know that I can be equal with other races and other genders. Also, I am glad I have a place like this that will respect me and I know it will be a great place to have my children grow up in.

Is America really the country everyone fantasizes about? True, there are some negative aspects to the country but overall, it’s a country I am proud to be a citizen in. I am proud to be an American because we are provided many opportunities such as having freedom and rights, free public education, and a numerous amount of government aid to help everyone.

Being an American means to me that I have freedom and I can do whatever I want. I’m an American, my parents are Americans, everyone’s an American. I talked to my parents about their view on what it means to be an American, and they said that being an American means we have rights available to us like nowhere else in the world does.The United States of America is a free country that citizens here have freedom, but in other countries there is less freedom. Freedom overall is a term that every citizen tries to define but no citizen has really defined it yet. Everyone here in the US has their choice on what they want to choose or do like religion or what schools to go to and we have the freedom to have an education, but in some places or countries

The definition of “American” or what makes an American cannot be answered simply and thus it divides people. For some being an American means being able to fight for what you believe and what you deem right. This may be your own personal rights and wellbeing or even the something that does not even pertain to that specific American. Others believe that being an American connects to an ideology in which people all agree on an idea for example many see supporting capitalism as essential to Americanism. This means if someone fights against capitalism, these people argue that they cannot be an American because that belief is fundamental.

Not all children are as privileged as American children. Americans have all they can possible need and want. America is better off financially compared to everyone else in the world.

What does it mean to be an American? That is a very ponderous question, and one that can not be answered without much thought.Alas each answer to this question is unique to each individual person.
